A/N: I wanted to write something for Baten Kaitos, but no ideas came to mind until I had this random one. Listening to a song obsessively does that to a person, I guess.
Warning: Some mild swearing; this is Kalas we're talking about.
Note: Inspiration was from "Waves" by DJ Satomi. However, the version I've been listening to is a slower version, so if you can find that one, it'd be good to listen to while reading.
Pairing: None; it's more a friendship piece.
Onto the fic.
Rude Awakening
It was three in the morning. Three in the morning meant that everyone was supposed to be asleep, like normal people.
Normal people didn't blast techno music at three in the morning.
Kalas was rudely awakened by said techno music. He glared at the walls and threw a pillow over his head, willing the stupid music to go away. However, this is Kalas we're talking about, and no one does what he wants them to do. He groaned in annoyance and sat up with an angry expression on his face. The swordsman kicked the blankets off and put on his slippers before looking around, wondering where in the name of the whale the music was coming from. "Can't they see it's three in the morning? For crying out loud, play your music at more reasonable hour!"
'Something wrong?' A light voice spoke, and it sounded like it just woke up. Kalas recognized the voice as his Guardian Spirit, Daimon, so he shrugged his shoulders and went to the door. 'Is that techno music? What time is it?'
"Three in the morning." Kalas huffed out, an annoyed tick forming over his eye. "I think someone just wants to be an ass and play stupid music. They're probably going to wake up the whole damn hotel, and then when they kick their ass, I'll laugh my ass off. Stupid bastards."
Daimon giggled nervously, knowing first hand that Kalas was not a morning person, particularly when he was rudely awakened by music such as this. She hoped that he wouldn't be too violent as he walked out of his room and looked around, trying to find the source of the music. He walked down the left hall, and he stopped in front of a door, his sapphire eyes narrowing in anger and annoyance. The spirit heard it as well; it sounded like people were partying in there and laughing their drunken heads off.
"Fucking hell. Can people get any more stupid?" the swordsman cursed angrily as he opened the door (and by open, Daimon meant that he kicked it open). "Can you please turn off your stupid music and go the fuck to sleep?" Kalas screamed at the drunkards, unaware of who they were. When he noticed, he blinked repeatedly before growling in annoyance. "You're kidding. Gibari, Lyude, we have to get up in three hours!"
"Wha?" Lyude mumbled, a Japanese rice wine in his hand. His fire red hair was disheveled, and his face was flushed due to the amount of alcoholic beverages he drank. The former soldier laughed before setting his arm on Gibari's shoulder. "C'mon Kal, don't be such a bore. Why not have a few before goin' back to sleepy land?"
Kalas twitched and Daimon could sense that the swordsman was getting more pissed off by the second. She decided to intervene before the two drunken men would face the man's full wrath. 'Gibari, Lyude, you two should go to bed. We don't want two stranglers when we leave tomorrow, and if you're drunk out of your heads, we're going to leave you behind.'
"No! Don't leave us behind!" Lyude wailed, and Kalas slapped his forehead. His fingers started to twitch while a vein was pulsing angrily in his head, causing Daimon to become nervous. If Kalas' fingers twitched and a vein pulsed in his head, that meant he was close to exploding.
"Gibari, you deal with this drunken idiot!" Kalas yelled angrily before slamming the door and stalking back to his room. "Fucking idiots."
Xelha came down the hall as well, rubbing her eyes and yawning loudly. She noticed Kalas, and her honey eyes looked at him with concern at the pissed off look on the swordsman's face. "Um, Kalas, are you alright?"
Kalas almost exploded at the innocent question the magic user asked him, but when he looked into her warm pools of honey, he calmed down. "Agh, yeah. Gibari just got Lyude drunk and woke me up with stupid techno music."
"Oh, that's where the music was coming from." she mumbled as she yawned again. "I volunteered to see what was going on because Savyna was quite ready to kill whoever was playing it at this ungodly hour."
'Maybe you should go back to sleep, Xelha.' Daimon said warmly, causing the blond girl to jump until she realized that it was the spirit saying that. 'We can just leave them behind tomorrow if they're still drunk out of their minds. That, or we can leave Gibari to deal with Lyude until the affects of the alcohol wear off.'
The blond giggled before patting Kalas' arm. "That's a good plan, and try to get some sleep, Kalas. You can take out your anger on the monsters, okay?"
Kalas smiled at the woman; she knew him so well. "Yeah, I'll do that. Goodnight Xelha."
"Goodnight Kalas." she replied tiredly before she started to walk towards her room.
The swordsman chuckled to himself before he too went back to his room. The others thought that he and Xelha loved each other, but that wasn't the case. The blond had been the first one to see past his "I don't give a damn" demeanour and unlock the person underneath it. He thought of her as a younger sister, and he knew that Xelha thought of him as an older brother. They had went through a lot together, so naturally they were close, just not in the way everyone was thinking.
Kalas could still hear the idiotic techno music pounding in Gibari and Lyude's room, but he threw a pillow over his head and did his best to block it out. Daimon decided to be helpful regarding that, as she sang him the melody that she always sang to make him feel better. His sapphire irises closed as the spirit's singing lulled him to sleep.
The next morning, the party left the hotel. Gibari and Lyude were nowhere to be found, and no one cared because the music had kept them up until five in the morning, save for Kalas who had Daimon singing to him to block out the music.
Just when they were about to leave Balcanoire, the fisherman came running with a still drunk Lyude running next to him. The sight caused everyone to laugh because once Lyude let go of Gibari's arm, he stumbled around all over the place before falling on the ground.
Kalas smirked at this. "That's what you get for waking all of us up with your shitty music."
Daimon giggled nervously when she realized that while the swordsman had been in the room, he slipped something into one of the drinks. A sedative, more than likely by the way Lyude was acting. 'That's why you shouldn't piss him off...'
