Oh, wild child

You think the world needs saving

That those

Stiff-collared

Stiff-necked

Stiff-ruled

ADULTS

are simply ruining it.

.

Those ADULTS

are entrapping

ensnaring

imprisoning

you

in their DARK ages world

.

Oh, wild child

You fancy yourself GROWN-UP

That:

You. Will. S a v e. That. World.

.

(You see the world in

Black And White.

Don't you, wild child?)

.

You'll fight until you tear

The night sky itself

Fight until your blood

coagulates against the ground

Fight until the s kin of your face

rots into a mass of maggots

Because:

(The world was made to be destroyed.)

Oh, wild child

You fancy yourself GROWN-UP.

In your rush to S a v e. The. World.

Did you notice that victory

tastes like loss?

Oh, wild child

You think the world needs saving

(Was anyone ever so young?)

A/N: This is my first freeverse, so I'm always interested in constructive criticism. As a disclaimer, the line "Was anyone ever so young?" is from Joan Didion's essay "Goodbye to All That". If you haven't read any of Joan Didion's pieces, I highly recommend her as an author; she has a lovely style of writing.
