Disclamer: Own no characters apart from the ones I make up.
It had been two whole years since they had arrived at the town now named Arcadia, funnily enough. The buildings that were already there when the group and survivors had arrived were built back together; some of the survivors had grouped together in the houses with about five people in each house hold. Kmart and Claire shared a house, Chris and Luther shared the house next door to Claire's.
The first year was spent cleaning up the buildings, town and finding useful resources that could use to benefit from the harsh winters that came early. The second year was spent by building a premise around the town to keep everyone safe just in case anything threatening came their way, many of the survivors was taught about combat skills, foraging and hunting also other survival skills that would help them along.
It was a late night in the new town of Acadia, the people of the town had retired to their small homes for the night; it was bitterly cold therefore most of the homes had logged fires on.
"Kmart! Kmart! Kmart! Get your skinny ass down here, NOW!" Claire shouted from the bottom of the stairs, Kmart quickly appeared over the banister wondering why she was been shouted for.
"You shouted Claire, What's up?" Kmart asked she had grown up fast over the two years spent here in the town; she would go out on hunts with Claire and Chris now that she was to be trusted.
"Have you seen the kitchen? It's a tip, looks like a bomb has hit it." Claire wasn't mused with the grin that was sporting on Kmart's face, "well then?" Claire asked again.
Kmart sighed and dragged herself down the stairs, "I was going to tidy it up, I was sorting things out you've put everything anywhere, I can't find anything when I need it."
As they were walking into the kitchen Chris came through the door of the house, "Hey Chris, how's you?" Kmart greeted warmly, Claire turned to Kmart "Eh, never mind greeting my brother go tidy up, please." Kmart dragged her feet into the kitchen to start her tidying up. Claire had a satisfied grin on her face.
"Anyway Chris to answer Kmart question, how are you?" she smiled at him, and both of them went into the messy kitchen. "Not too bad, just wanted to see if you had enough burning wood for your fire place?" Claire thought about it, "Yeah I think so, why?"
"Just wandered me and Luther went out to the wood shed to collect some logs." Claire nodded and saw how Kmart was getting on and decided to go into the room that they used as the living room, Chris followed behind her.
They both sat on the self made couch; one of the people in the village had joinery skills and had made furniture for the people that need it and other things such as bed frames then other people made trips to and back from the ship with bed sheets, and any other resources that would be helpful. The fire was alive in the room leaving a warm cosy atmosphere, Chris turned to Claire who was staring straight into the fire, thoughts elsewhere.
"So how are you and Sasha getting on?" Chris had a smirk on his face; Claire looked at him and broke into a shy smile.
"What do you mean how we are getting on, were just hunting friends." His eye brows shot up slightly, "Yeah because the interactions between you two are just 'hunting friend' talk, Claire when are you going to make the move?" Chris was teasing her, Claire nearly choked at the outburst.
"Chris! I am not making the move, look where that got me last time." Claire was referring back to a certain brunette. "But Claire you have to get back in the saddle, it's been two whole years."
"Chris, I don't have to do anything, I know how long it's been I just don't know if I can go back there all over again." Claire leaned back on the couch clearly exhausted from the day's events. Chris put his hand on her left knee and decided to leave.
"Right, I best be off before Luther burns the house down with his awful cooking skills, ugh something's that man cooks it's a wonder my stomach can handle it." Claire laughed and hugged her brother before leaving the living room, "you're welcome to come have your meals here, and my cooking pretty good just ask Kmart." Chris hummed, "I think I may have to take that offer up sometime." He was considering the possible invite.
Chris and Claire walked through the hall way and stopped at the kitchen door to check on Kmart's tidy up, "Goodnight K." Chris said his goodbye to the blonde, "Goodnight Claire, think about what I said." He winked and left the door before Claire could shoot him evils.
"What was he on about?" Kmart peered round the corner of the door innocently over hearing the conversation between the siblings. Claire jumped, "Oh nothing, Chris been well Chris." Claire made her way into the kitchen to see if Kmart had done what was asked for her.
"Well this looks better K." Kmart turned around at her rolling her eyes, "Don't roll your eyes at me I like a tidy home." Kmart scoffed, "Yeah right Claire, and I'm the one who tidy's up after you."
"Only because I'm out all the day and been the leader you all love me to be." Claire put her hands either side of her hips empathising her role. "But I do appreciate it K, and I promise I will get better at picking up my wet towels after myself." Claire promised something and when she did she kept them.
"I'm off to bed now Claire, can I leave the lamp on?" Kmart asked, ever since they lived in the house the lamp would be left on until Claire went up to bed, which she shared the room with her since Kmart begged for her to share the room.
"You should know by now I let you, go on off to bed." Claire kissed her forehead and hugged her goodnight. "Night, Claire." "Night, Kmart."
The blonde ran up stairs and settled in for the night, Claire on the other hand had other plans, and she was expecting Sasha to come round to talk about the plans for the hunting the next morning. Like they usually do at night over a few glasses of boiled whisky, Claire didn't see why Chris was over reacting about their friendship, she didn't want to get hurt there was no time for it.
A group of people surrounded a young woman; she was unconscious and few cuts across her face with a major bloody gash down her left cheek, she was laying on the cold concrete. Her hair was long and brown but looked dirty, one of the people that was surrounding her bent down and moved her so he could see her properly, her top was torn on the shoulder there he witnessed a scar across her collar bone. Looked like an old scar.
She stirred under the touch, "where am I?" she asked groggily, "Your in what's left of west of Canada, What's your name?" She looked up at him, "My name, my name is Alice. Alice Abernathy."
Did you like ? shall i carry on? let me know :)
