Part 1

Reid walked into the hospital at Bay City determined to get the heart for Chris "Doogie" Hughes so he would survive. The doctor didn't care about Chris no he cared about Katie and Luke which was why he was doing this. On the way up Reid found out the name of the doctor refusing to give up the heart and was surprised to find it was his old friend Doctor Matt Lewis. He stormed past every nurse and found himself face to face with Matt.

"I want that heart," Reid said bluntly.

"Look Reid as much as I respect you my patient has been on that list for months," Matt said not understanding why Reid Oliver cared.

"And mine has only a day to live and people I care about will be destroyed if he dies," Reid said hoping it would help get the heart and he was right.

"Fine but you better pray another heart comes in the next couple of months for my patient," Matt agreed never having seen Reid like this.

Thirty minutes later Reid was rushing back to Oakdale with the heart in the passenger seat when he came across the railroad tracks, only this time he went ignoring the flashing sign thinking he could make it. Reid's car stalled and he hurried to unbuckle his seatbelt but his door was jammed. The next thing he knew was darkness.

Luke cried as he watched the doctors give up on Reid. When his boyfriend was brought in everyone worked on him until the heart arrived and then Luke was told he didn't have long. Luke was angry and pissed because it seemed as if they cared more about Chris surviving then they did Reid and the young man blew upon seeing Bob Hughes.

"No you are not giving up just because Chris has a heart now," Luke yelled drawing the attention of those that cared about him, "he survived this long, he'll make it but you want to give up because it would be an inconvenience to you. Well guess what, it isn't happening. You either get back in there and fight to save his life instead of giving up or I'll sue your ass into next year and find a doctor who will fight to save Reid."

Without another word Luke rushed past to where Reid lay. His boyfriend was bloody with cuts and bruises all over his body. Walking to stand next to him Luke carefully lay his head on Reid's chest and cried.

"Please you can't die," Luke whispered tears falling.

"What's…this…dying…stuff?" Reid gurgled out weakly getting Luke's attention.

"Promise you'll fight," Luke begged leaning his forehead carefully against Reid's.

"Promise," the doctor said struggling. Luke could see he was fighting to stay consciousness and rushed out to get Bob who upon see Reid ordered for immediate surgery.

As Luke waited Lily and Holden showed up offering comfort anyway they could but Luke wouldn't take it and blew up.

"Why do you care mom?" Luke yelled. "You hated him and probably want him to die so don't pretend you care."

With that Luke broke down and was pulled into his dad's arms who said nothing. Holden knew his son just needed to let it out because nothing could fix the situation. His son was defenseless and hurt and while Holden wanted to take it away he knew he couldn't so he did the next best thing, he comforted his son. Friends and family hoped that Reid would make it knowing if he didn't Luke would be destroyed.
