Kaz:
Blue Watch had been coping with the fire that raged in the tall block of flats. Coping that was until DO Griggs arrived on the scene. Coleman had felt he could handle the situation perfectly well without the senior officer butting in, Griggs however didn't agree.
I want that BA crew back inside! he was yelling.
But sir Coleman tried to object.
He had been in this situation before, he felt he could see history repeating itself. He tried to express his concerns with Griggs, who was just on some ego power trip as he was up for promotion. He just wanted to chuck his weight around.
There are still people trapped in that building, Griggs was wildly indicating the stricken tower.
Adam, Sally, Hyper and Hi-Ho prepared their BA kits to venture back inside once more. Sally wanted to argue with Griggs, she felt she could see it coming Hyper warned her off.
He's just an eejit, Sal, come on let's just get on with it.
That's exactly what Joe said! I'm not doing it, Rob, that tower could come down at any moment, she pointed out.
Which is why we have to get in before it does.
Maybe we should try to secure the building Pearce was suggesting to Griggs.
And I want that building securing, now, Griggs started barking. You lot, he motioned to a group of firefighters who were tackling the flames. Get that lot stabilised.
Two faced git, Sally muttered.
She looked up at the tower. George was on BA Control, he looked a little grim as they approached.
Once more into the breach eh? he checked Hyper's tally.
Yeah, Hyper replied from behind the BA mask.
George moved on to Hi-Ho, then Adam. Sally hung back, refusing to follow Griggs' orders.
Come on Sal, you don't want him throwing a wobbler! Adam pointed out.
Sally took another look up at the tower then went over to George. She knew she had no choice but to carry out the DO's orders, whether she agreed with them or not. George took her tally and was then called away as another BA crew emerged from one of the side entrances.
Above them, the tall building swayed.
I knew I shouldn't have got out of bed this morning! Sally muttered as she followed the others towards the main entrance of the flats.
Suddenly, the building shook with the force of a mighty explosion. The ground moved underneath their feet. They struggled to keep their balance as the tower leaned dangerously towards them. Hyper glanced up.
Oh #%$
Adam and Hi-Ho had seen it too. There was no time to react as their worlds were plunged into darkness
Gemma:
Sally could hear the sound of her coughs and chokes echoing along with the slight crackles and patters of particles falling around her.
"Adam? Hyper? Hi - Ho?" She questioned quietly.
There was silence, not an utter, just complete and utter silence.
"Blackwall pu..." She coughed again, "BA control can you hear me?" She questioned.
But no they couldn't hear her, the sets were dead...
Nat:
She was alone, under the dark rubble. She had no idea where her mates were, or if they were still alive. She took her set off, banging against a rock, hoping to bring it back to live
"Bloody stupid thing?!?!?!?" It didn't work.
Dust particle made her thoart dry. Her torch, had also broken in the fall, she tried to move around restricted by the rubble, scared that if she moved too much it wold bring the whole lot down on them more, something she didn't want.
A cough from behind her, made her turn her head slightly. There was movement form someone, they managed to crawl, which was a good sign, to beside her, into a small light pocket created by a gap in the rubble.
They entered the light and to her delight it was Adam.
Kaz:
"You ok Sal?" Adam asked as he ventured forward carefully.
"Um, yeah I think... You?"
"I'll be much better when we get out of here!"
"Yeah," she agreed.
Outside, Coleman had decided to take charge of the incident and ordered Recall to get on the radio to Control to notify them of what had happened. Griggs, meanwhile, seemed to have done a disappearing act.
For one moment, Coleman hoped the incompetent officer had been buried alive... but then decided that was not something he should be thinking.
He turned his attention to organising the rescue mission.
Gemma:
"Can you see anyone?" Sally asked Adam, "Hyper or Hi - Ho?" She asked.
Adam tried to look around him, but due to the poor visibilty. "Nope," He replied quietly, "Maybe they've already found a way out," He said trying to sound optimistic.
"Or maybe they're dead," Sally said taking the pesimistic route of thinking.
"Sally they've got out ok? Or they're somewhere within all of this talking to each other, ok?" Adam said trying to get her to think positive thoughts. With her thinking all the opposites, it wouldn't be long before Adam begun thinking in the same route.
Nat:
Outside the rescue effort was well underway, Search and Rescue had been drafted in. The rescue effort was taking some time, moving bricks had to be done in a human chain to prevent the whole thing collasping on the survivors inside.
Members of blue watched watched in horror, as they had no idea wether there mates were dead or alive. They also had to keep there mind on there work despite everything as Geoff so often reminded them
"If you want to find them then you are going to have to work harder, stop day dreaming and get working" Was his favourite phase of the moment
Inside the wreck, Sally and Adam had decided there best bet was to remain still as there moving around was causing more of the tunnel to collaspe! They kept calling Hyper and HiHo but no reply
They were talking about the past, present and future in order to past the time away.
Ayms:
The air was thick with dust and they could barly see a meter away. They couldn't hear much everywhere was almost silent. They could hear muffled sirens and shouts from outside the building but them shouting to their friends and colegues outside the rubble wasn't getting them anywhere.
"Have you ever known anyone.... any girls, you would do anything for? who you couldn't live without?" Sally asked Adam Making conversation
"I don't know. I mean I've known lots of girls some, who I thought I really.... loved, but things changed and I found that it wasn't really love. I don't think I have felt real love. How about you." He asked her.
"Only one I think. Joe, I was pretty sure in most ways that it was love. He was all I ever thought about. The first person I thought about when something happened at a shout, he was the first person I checked to make sure he was ok."
Gemma:
Adam smiled awkwardly, he wasn't brilliant with words when it came to words of comfort. He didn't know this Joe bloke, but Sally always spoke very highly of him. She loved the bloke, all the guys had a good friendship with Sally, so this Joe bloke must have been a nice guy. Someone special.
"It must've been a nice feeling, real love I mean," Adam replied, awkwardly.
Sally nodded, feeling a tear trickle down her left cheek, "We're gonna get out of here Adam, we are," She said trying to think optimistically.
Nat:
Adam put a comforting arm around Sally "Yea cause we will, you know what them lot are like they will find us all Sal" He held her closer "What about the others Rob and HiHo? they could be under her.." "Sally, Sally just calm down, they will be fine, they are both strong men" "I couldn't bear to lose anyone else Adam not again" "Sally you are not going to lose anyone, they will be ok" Adam hoped he believed his own words
Outside a slow process was getting somewere, and torch and radio had been found. "Guv, they have to be around here, we have to keep looking" "I know Recall, we have more crews coming in from S&R, and sniffer dogs, we will find them" They both carried on searching, whilst others searched futher down the building.
"Paramedics over here" A member from Shadbrook shouted. Recall looked up and saw a ground of people disend on the point. Recall and George both dropped there stuff and pushed though the crowds, and saw HiHo lying amoungst the rubble
"Oh s**t"George gasped.
Kaz:
Six thousand nine hundred and forty eight, six thousand nine hundred and forty nine... Still nothing.
Six thousand nine hundred and fifty...
Scrape, scrape...
Six thousand nine hundred and fifty one...
Six thousand...
Light poured in around him.
"Give him some space, come on... Paramedics!"
Hyper blinked as the sudden influx of light hurt his eyes, which had been slowly getting used to night vision. Not that he'd had much use for any vision. He had been trying to pass the time, and also make sure he kept awake by counting to six thousand nine hundred and whatever it was he had got up to, starting from 1. He didn't know how long he had been trapped for.
"Rob?" Coleman was looking over him.
Two paramedics bustled their way through the crowd of firefighters, who stood back as ordered.
Hyper came to his senses. "Guv... I..."
Coleman moved aside to let the paramedics through.
"Don't worry," Coleman was reassuring him, he turned back to his team of firefighters. "Can we have a hand in moving this lot."
He wasn't short of volunteers.
The paramedics had to move aside some broken concrete blocks so they had space to work.
"Ok," the girl started talking to him. "I'm Lucy, this is Mike and you're gonna be fine," she started shining a small light into his eyes.
"Yeah? Wish I could believe that..."
"Do," she insisted. "You'll feel much better for it."
Mike was digging around at something, Hyper couldn't see what as Lucy sat in the way.
"Luce..." Mike started, a serious tone in his voice.
Lucy looked over at him, then she turned to Coleman.
Suddenly the work to free him stopped. He wondered what was going on, he could see Mike and Coleman in conversation not far from him. Lucy returned to her post by his side.
"It's nothing to worry about," she was gently reassuring him. "Minor set back..."
"How minor?"
"Guv," George yelled from another area of the mass brick pile up.
Coleman left the paramedics with Hyper while he went to see what George had found.
Another two paramedics were examining the area where George and Recall stood as Coleman joined them.
"It's Hi-Ho..." George started.
They had managed to clear him of the rubble. The two paramedics were in a deep discussion over the treatment of their patient.
An anxious group of firefighters stood around.
"You lot," Coleman turned to them. "Get over there and start searching that area," he indicated a pile of rubble close to where Hyper had been found.
Reluctanlty they drifted off. However, Recall and George remained.
"And you two," Coleman ordered.
They looked at each other.
"But Guv," George tried to object.
Coleman glared at him.
"Come on," Recall put a hand on George's shoulder.
Neither of them wanted to leave, but they both turned away.
Coleman looked back at the two paramedics. One of them stood up.
"I'm sorry..." he started.
Coleman just nodded, knowing there was nothing else to be said... or done.
