"Please Bernard, i need someone to do this with her."
"Anjella, I don't have time! Why in the world did you even think of me?"
"Please daddy, please!" Aquette, the current santa, watches, amused by the fight occuring in front of her. Bernard and Anjella, one of her oldest friends, were discussing a problem relating to Anjella's youngest daughter, Rosaline. Anjella had taken to calling Bernard her father for several reasons, none of which include him actually acting like a father to her.
"Anjella, I don't have time! You can't expect me to..."
"Bernard, Rosaline loves you, and I don't have anyone else who can take her. Please, I need to go and I really need you to say yes."
"No."
"Bernard! Daddy!" Anjella whines.
"Not helping your case."
"Please. Bernard, Ambrose has Amadeus and Amus for the day, and I have to take Romeo for training. But Rosaline had her heart set on seeing that winter festival."
"Ask peter."
"He's with Noakyk." Aquette finally chimes in. "He took Noakyk out for the day. Father-son day."
"See! Please Bernard." Bernard shakes his head, not wanting to give in. "Do I have to bring her here and have you explain to her that you're too busy to take her to the festival, so she'll just have to be stuck at home, all alone?" Bernard winces. He did like Rosaline. She was a cute little 7-year-old angel girl who had a kids crush on him. She had her mothers violent temper, and her fathers short fuse, but she was sweet, and in general she behaved, especially for him. "Please daddy, she just needs you to take her to the festival, maybe go on some rides with her. You know she would be so happy if you did." Bernard sighs and shakes his head.
"Fine, fine, just... I don't have any money."
"Are you really using that as an excuse?" Anjella smirks. She hands Bernard a credit cards. "Rosaline knows the pin."
"You don't trust me?"
"Since when do I trust you?" Anjella sighs, then smiles at Bernard. "Thank you, really. She'll be waiting for you in the living room."
"Yeah yeah, i'll go get her." Bernard disappears. Aquette shakes her head.
"Anjella, you are amazing, you know that? You've convinced him to do so many things."
"It's called will power. You may be a fraction of their size and power, but if you keep bugging them long enough eventually your opponent will give up."
Rosaline is alone in her living room. She sighs, wondering if she'll ever get to go see the winter festival.
"Hello Rosaline." She jumps and spins around, then blushes at the sight of Bernard.
"H-H-Hi..." She looks down, unable to keep eye contact with Bernard. He sighs, then walks over and ruffles her hair.
"So, where is this festival?" Rosaline blinks, then looks up at him in surprise.
"Y-you're coming with me?"
"Looks like it." Rosaline smiles, then giggles. She grabs Bernards hand and the two disappear. They find themselves standing behind a small building, snow all around them. Rosaline runs around the building, and Bernard follows her. The two find themselves out in front of a large festival, with snowman building contests, snowcones, cocoa, and all sorts of games and other small booths. Rosaline starts to run into the mess of people when Bernard grabs her hand. "Rosaline, while it may not bother us, we should probably put on winter clothes."
"But..." Rosaline frowns. "Fine..." She sighs. Bernard snaps his fingers, and the two are in red and white Christmas outfits. Rosaline grabs the far too big santa hat off her head and looks at it. "Is this Aunty Aquette's hat?"
"Yes, it is." Rosaline smiles and puts the hat back on, making Bernard smirk. Rosaline then inspects the rest of her outfit. She was in a dress Noakyk had made her, it was red with thin sparkly white strips swirling around to look like a snow storm, and white fluff on the bottom, collar, and the end of the sleeves. Under that she had red pants, and black shoes. Rosaline giggles, finding her outfit acceptable.
"Lets go!" Rosaline grabs Bernard's hand, again blushing, and drags him into the festival. The first thing the two do is go ice skating. Rosaline, not wanting to use the blade provided, uses her power to manipulate light to make blades on the bottom of her shoes. She then does the same for Bernard, and the two head out on the ice. "Bernard! Bernard!" Rosaline shouts as she makes designs in the ice. Bernard slowly skates around, watching Rosaline giggle and jump and run.
"Move!" A man, looking to be in his early twenties, shoves Bernard. Bernard glares at the guy, but decides to forget it. He wasn't going to get involved in a fight. He returns to watching Rosaline. She starts to make a heart design in the ice when the same man runs into her, knocking her down, and cutting her hand with his blade. Rosaline yelps and hugs her hand to her chest. It was already starting to heal but that doesn't mean that it didn't hurt. Bernard quickly skates to Rosaline and picks her up.
"Rosaline, are you okay?" She buries her head in his chest, whimpering. Bernard sighs, then growls as he glares at the guy who hurt Rosaline. Bernard quickly skates to the edge of the ice and sets Rosaline down. "Ros, stay here, and don't let anyone see your hand, okay?" Rosaline sniffles, and nods. Bernard nods, then skates over to the assailant. "Hey, you need to watch it!"
"What did you say?" The guy spins around and glares at Bernard.
"You just cut a little girl with your blade after you knocked her over!"
"She should pay more attention to where I'm going. Now get lost squirt." The guy shoves Bernard, who growls. The guy spins around and starts laughing with his friends. Bernard snaps his fingers, and the ice below the guy becomes extremely thin, and he falls through.
"I guess you should pay more attention to your surroundings." Bernard smirks, then skates back to Rosaline. He sees her watching him and can't resist showing off a little. He starts skating in curves and lines, jumps a few times, spins once, then returns to Rosaline. "Rosaline, come here." He picks her up, and both of their sets of blades disappear from their shoes. He puts Rosaline on his shoulders and turns around. Rosaline looks at the ice where Bernard was showing off and it makes her both smile and blush, he had spelled her name in the ice. "Your hand feeling better?"
"A-a little." Rosaline looks at her hand. She had managed to make it stop bleeding, but the wound was fairly deep, and it still hurt badly.
"Want to go get something to eat then?" Rosaline nods, and the two head to an indoor cafeteria. They look around, neither interested in the food provided. Instead Bernard sets Rosaline down, and disappears for a few moments. When he returns he sets down two trays, one of which is Rosalines favorite food, and then sits next to her. He takes her injured hand and wraps it up with a bandage. "Alright, no more getting hurt alright? I don't need your mom killing me because she found a scratch on you." Bernard smirks. Rosaline giggles and nods. "Okay, eat up then." Rosaline reaches over to her cheesy jo-jos and happily pulls one out of the sticky mess. She takes a bite and giggles, it was delicous of course. Bernard looks around, wondering how long he had to be here. He had a lot of work to do, and while he liked Rosaline he didn't want to be responsible for her getting anymore injured.
"B-Bernard..." Rosaline looks shyly up at him. He smiles at her.
"Yes Rosaline?"
"Th-thank you."
"For the food? It's..."
"No... Well, yes, b-but..." She looks down. "Th-thank you for coming with me... I-I really wanted to come but... but mommy and daddy... they're so busy... I was worried I-I'd be all alone today..." Bernard sighs, then ruffles her hair, smirking.
"Don't worry Rosaline. No one could ever leave someone as cute as you alone." Rosaline blushes worse, and giggles. Bernard sighs, his thoughts of leaving early now replaced by the worry of making Rosaline cry if he were to try to do so. It's going to be a long day, and all he can do is hope that nothing else will go wrong.
