Ajay held her sniffling daughter in her arms her body shaking from her own tears, her arms were sore from where Chris had grabbed her, her head was aching from being slammed against the wall.
She had yet to see what her living room looked like, she hadn't moved from her seated position on the floor she kept replaying the fight in her head. Without Chris she was nothing.
She hated to admit that but with him she couldn't live she wouldn't able to carry on without him. His words from his rants filled her head again and her tears came down faster.
She pulled her knees up and cradled her baby closer to her, trying to find any sort of comfort in her blue eyed baby. It wasn't working.
The shrill ringing of the doorbell startled Ajay and she stood up quickly protecting her baby from falling out of her arms. She went to the door and opened it hoping it was her boyfriend.
Her face crumbled seeing James and Mollie standing in the door. James and Mollie exchanged a look before stepping into the house. "What happened?" Mollie asked taking her friend's appearance, her eyes were red from crying, her hair that was done in a nice up do was falling out her skirt was riding up her thigh her stocking had a rip in it she looked and felt like a defeated terrified woman.
James had went into the living room and came back, "you hurt darlin'?" he asked going over to her. Ajay shook her head not fumbling over her words. Mollie took Kenzie out of her arms allowing James to put his arms around Ajay.
"He' she tried to talk but couldn't get the rest of the word out she just started crying all over again. James panicked on the inside he didn't know what to do; Ajay had never ever acted like this before. Not when she got hurt in the ring did he see this many tears.
He hushed her and rubbed her back while she cried and mumbled incoherently though her tears. 'Ke-nz-ie" she hiccupped. That was the first word he understood since they got there.
"She is with Mollie Pix, we will go see her" he said steering her towards the dining room where he could hear Mollie talking to Kenzie. He kept her on his right side as he steered her towards the dining room hoping she wouldn't see the disaster that was in the living room.
But luck wasn't on James' side she saw the mess anyways, her body started shaking again as she tried to suppress her sobs. She pushed herself away from stumbling over her feet as she walked, she fell to her knees burying her face into the now rumpled satin of her dress.
James went to pull her up, she yanked her arm out of his grip and shifted her position she pulled the red pumps off of her feet throwing them against the wall getting some satisfaction when they hit into the wall with a thud.
"Come on Pix, be a good girl and get up" he said going over and hauling her up by her armpits. Ajay didn't fight James as he pulled her up he then reached down and pulled down the rumpled skirt.
He thought she wouldn't want her underwear showing though one more then one occasion both he and Mollie had seen her underwear. Ajay got herself together a bit more before going over and taking Kenzie from Mollie and kissing her forehead and cradling the baby to her.
She went over to where her phone was at before walking slowly to the table and sitting down. Chris' words were starting to sink in like wild fire. She looked at her phone and wavering breath seeing no missed calls or messages from him.
She had fucked up horribly and she could very well lose the man she was striving to keep to herself. "Stupid selfish bitch" she thought to herself before she went though her phone and found her best friend's number.
She needed him to help keep her sane and keep her from doing something stupid. She stumbled over her words trying to get them out between her hiccups and sobs that she needed him.
She wasn't sure that he understood her; she prayed he understood her as she put her phone down on the table. Her baby girl was starting to doze in her arms, and she didn't want to wake her with her tears.
She went over to her swing and put Kenzie in it setting it in motion. Mollie pulled her friend into a hug causing her to cry even harder. Mollie was at a complete loss of what to do.
She had never had to take care of Ajay before it was always the other way around. Ajay taking care of Mollie whenever she needed now it was her turn. She rubbed her back and steered her to chair by Kenzie wondering if she should go pick up the living room before Ajay got a good look of it.
James came down stairs shaking his head at her he hadn't found Chris in any of the rooms. Mollie went to work on pulling out the rest of the bobby pins and rubber bands out of Ajay's hair as she continued to cry.
James stood by the chairs not sure what to do. He wanted Ajay to break out of this funk she was in; he wanted her to break out in that award winning smile they were awarded with every time she smiled at them.
He wanted to her laughter again for her to get up and dance around the room anything but be this sad broken woman. Mollie finished taking out her hair and stroked her hair back down before stepping away.
James went over started and rubbing her back trying to give some comfort to his Pix. Ajay folded her arms and buried her face into them sobbing not caring who heard the cries.
She wasn't ashamed of the tears; she was ashamed of the way she acted the past 2 months since Kenzie was born. And she was so scared that she was going to lose Chris so she did the one thing she could she cried.
She hadn't bothered moving when the doorbell went off, nothing seem to matter anymore. In the corner of her mind she was glad that her son wasn't here tonight would have terrified him probably worse then anything that his birth mother did to him.
James' hand stopping rubbing her back all she heard was Tink and she pulled her head back from her arms and sat up enough to fall into his arms and bury her face into his shoulder sobbing.
She felt pushing at her to get her to sit up, she really didn't want to sit up she wanted to cry and have him tell her everything is going to be okay. She was terrified of what her friends would think of her and her insecurities and what she did, she managed to choke out he, me and her.
The familiar pressure of his fingers pressing her to sit up causing her to sit up and lower her eyes down so she wasn't looking at his face she was struggling to catch her breath between her tears.
"Breath" he instructed. Ajay struggled for a second before she filled her lungs with air and exhaled a couple of times she felt herself calming down. Petey grabbed her hands and held them in his trying to give her encouragement and strength to talk.
She squeezed his hand as she started talking wincing slightly when she recalled Chris pushing her against the wall. Her arms still ached from his vice grip, she felt like she had a goose egg on the back of her head where it had connected with the wall.
Ajay covered Mollie's hand with hers friends reassurances were swirling around in her head now along with Chris' harsh words. She turned to look at her daughter; her bright blue eyes were open as she stared at the ceiling.
She stood up shakily and went over to the swing and stopped the motion. Kenzie cooed and kicked out her feet seeing her mom standing there. Ajay took her out of the swing and cradled her close to her.
She turned to her friends. "I am going to go change her out of her dress and get changed myself" she said hoping if she changed and came back downstairs her boyfriend would be back.
"I will go with you" Mollie said going over to her, "you shouldn't really be alone right now" Ajay nodded her head still sad. She froze when she saw the state of her living room.
Her heart sank seeing the shatter glass from the picture frames and from the broken lamp, coffee table was upside down so was their sofa and her arm chair. She shook her head and went up the stairs.
"Does she have clothes in here?" Mollie asked following Ajay into the master bedroom. Ajay nodded and pointed to the laundry basket that was sitting on the sofa. She grabbed a clean diaper from the bag in her closet and went to change her daughter.
"I will change her into her sleeper" Mollie said holding up the pink and white hearted footie pajamas, "go take a shower it will make you feel better" Ajay nodded her head and turned into her bathroom.
She sat on the closed toilet and ripped off her stockings throwing them in the trash, she sighed to herself as she stood back up and removed the dress she crumbled it up even more in her hands and dropped it on the floor not caring about it.
She stripped the rest of her clothing and stepped into the shower stall during on the water as hot as she could. She didn't care if it burned her skin. It would take her mind off of the pain she was feeling right now.
She sank down to the tiled floor her tears shaking her body as Chris' words replayed over and over again in her head. She got out of the shower after the water had gone cold she hugged her towel to her body groaning to herself when she heard her friends' voices coming from her bedroom.
'Hey Tink are you okay" Petey asked sticking his head into the bathroom. Fresh tears rose up in her eyes as she shook her head no. He frowned and placed her phone on the counter for her squeezing her shoulder afterwards.
Ajay looked at her phone checking to see if Chris called if he ever would and he hadn't. Ajay put on a hoodie that holes in the cuffs and a pair of track pants and threw her hair up in a ponytail before going out into her room.
She crawled onto the bed and curled into a ball next to Petey resting her head on his lap. He rubbed her shoulder staying quiet letting her sniffle and cry into his lap. James covered her with a blanket and tried to pry her phone out of her hand.
Ajay moved back away from him retreating into herself more as more tears fell. "James let her keep her phone" Petey said he knew that she needed all the comfort she could get even if it was an electronic device.
Ajay fought all the on coming sleep, she knew she couldn't escape her reality or could she sleep without knowing if things were going to be okay with her and Chris if they ever were going to be okay.
Tears rushed down her cheeks as she pressed her face into Petey's pant leg. Mollie and James sat on the love seat not sure what to do or say to make Ajay feel better
. Petey kept running her shoulder and back trying to soothe her, Kenzie was laying in her bassinette by her parents' bed her feet kicking out. The silence in the room was broken up by an occasional coo from the baby.
The sudden ringing of Ajay's cell startled them all out of their thoughts. It was barely though the first ring when she answered it, "Chris' she sat up letting the blanket fall around her legs she was relived he had finally called it had been hours since he had left her after their fight and she had been worried sick about him.
She scowled him for not coming back, but something seemed off about her boyfriend. She soon found out what it was. Aiden had her baby and she missed it. Petey sat up and touched her shoulder worried about her sudden change of body language.
She threw off the blanket and stood up after rushing off of the phone with Chris. "What's wrong? Where is he?" Petey asked. "He is at the hospital Aiden had her baby" she answered tripping over the blanket to go find a pair of shoes.
Mollie stood up and went to help her she was trying to hide her crushed feelings knowing for now that she had lost Alex to Aiden and the new baby. James for once seeming sober stood up and went over to where the diaper bag was sitting at and made sure to put extra stuff in there.
He could remember that much from when his own daughter was a baby. Petey had stood up and took Kenzie out of the bassinette who started whining and whimpering about picked up.
"Shh, its okay we are going to go see daddy" he said. Kenzie whined again her little fists going up angrily. "She is tired. She hasn't slept all that much tonight' Ajay mused out loud.
"Come on Pix, Pete can drive' James said putting his arm around her. Ajay nodded her head. She hugged her body tightly as they went down the stairs and out into the snowy night to go to the hospital.
Somewhere between her driveway and the parking lot Ajay made up her mind to say she was sorry to Aiden and Alex as soon as she could. Chris too, if he didn't decide to leave her for what she did a couple of tears escaped her eyes before she looked at her daughter who was finally asleep.
She rubbed her forehead and looked out of the window realizing that they were there. With numb fingers she undid her baby's car seat straps and took her out holding her to her chest tightly. She needed the comfort and love that she got from hugging the tiny bundle of joy.
She was silent as they rode the elevator up to the labor and delivery floor. The doors dinged open and she stepped out holding her baby close to her. Her eyes easily finding her boyfriend standing looking into the nursery at the newborn babies.
Mollie squeezed her elbow as she walked away, James followed her. Petey muttered to her where they would be. Ajay nodded her head taking a deep breath fighting the tears back trying to get the strength she needed to face Chris.
Her feet had a mind of their own as she slowly made her way over to him. Her voice sounded funny to her own ears as she asked him a question peering into the room looking for herself.
She found herself forcing herself to smile even though she didn't feel every happy, she didn't have a reason to smile. He turned around but his eyes never went to her. Instead they stayed on their daughter.
Her smile slid off her face like butter, deep down she knew that he was still mad at her; he probably didn't want anything to do with her again. She tried to get out statements when he looked at her.
She bit down on her lower lip listening to him talk not sure of what he was saying or what he meant. Hearing that he didn't want to be away from her and their family a deep breath rushed out of her body, she didn't hear what he said she just fell into his arms hugging him.
His familiar scent and warmth made feel a lot better then she had when he had left her crying in their hallway. She swore up and down she was going to make things right with Aiden.
Chris looked a little nervous as he took Kenzie from her. Her heart sank seeing hearing the words. She didn't want believe Aiden was coldhearted she was the coldhearted one.
She didn't want to believe Chris, she didn't she started backing away from him before turning and running down the hall. Her common curiosity was thrown out of the window as she opened the door.
"Cookie!" she called not getting answer she called it again. Her eyes going to Alex not wanting to believe it seeing the look on his face and the baby cradled in his arms she begged him not to tell her its not true she wanted to believe she was just sleeping.
"Yes, it's true, the mother of my child is in a coma and it's all your fault!"
Ajay stepped back and shrank into herself hearing the venom in his words. She stumbled over her words as tears came down her face trying to say she was sorry.
"Sorry? You don't even know the meaning of the word. She depended on you! You and Chris were the only ones who knew how sick she was and you turned your back on her when she needed you the most." She hugged her body tightly as her tears fell.
She didn't hear Petey telling him to calm down or Alex's retort. She managed to say she was sorry again. Every word he said was true it was all her fault she was horrible person
"I want you to take a real good look at what you've done. I don't feel sorry for you at all Ajay. You acted with no mercy for my wife and child so don't expect me to show you any either."
Ajay let her tears run freely as she ran out of the room. She didn't bother looking over her shoulder for Chris. She did what she did best when things got bad she ran.
She ran for the stairs instead of going down to the parking garage she went collapsing a couple of flights up her body shaking with her tears "this is all my fault'
