Too Strong
"People cry, not because they're weak, but because they've been strong for too long."
"You don't know the first thing about me," shot back Elphaba to the Wizard in an even tone.
The Wizard gave her a small, sad smile.
"Oh but I do," he said quietly, "I do know you. I can't explain it exactly. You know what I mean. Elphaba, you've been so strong through all of this, aren't you tired of being the strong one? Wouldn't you like someone to take care of you? Please help me start again."
Elphaba stared at him, wondering how he could know how strong she had been throughout her whole life.
"Don't you think I wish I could?" she said, her voice trembling at the thought, "That I could go back to the time that I believed you really were wonderful? The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz? Nobody believed in you more than I did!" she admitted with a harsh glare towards him.
The Wizard shook his head, "I wish I could grant your wish, my dear. Wait!" he said suddenly, holding up his hand.
"What?" asked Elphaba, staring at him with a confused look on her face.
"Do you have the Grimmerie with you?" he asked.
Elphaba fumbled with the pages of it underneath her cloak. The Grimmerie only brought destruction and disaster to her, how could she ever use it again?
But she obliged and pulled it out.
"When I was younger, my father was a scientist, someone who experiments and such, and he came up with a concept called Time Travel," explained the Wizard eagerly scanning through the book.
"I thought you had no powers," hissed Elphaba slightly, a little bit interested.
The Wizard looked up, "Very little, my dear Elphaba. Very little indeed, but this requires no great magic. All you need is my balloon, and for you to say the spell."
"And why would I want to do that?" asked Elphaba harshly.
"As I said to you earlier, I want to help you. I may not have any powers but I do want to help," he said with sad eyes.
He went on, "Your determination is to be admired, but aren't you tired of it? Don't you want to change things, so you can have that happy ending that you've always wanted? I can give that to you."
Elphaba's eyes widened, and she seriously thought about this. She was tired. She was more than tired, she was struggling everyday to maintain her own sanity and well being. Maybe it was time for a changeā¦
"How do I know I can trust you?" she asked, even though her mind was already made up.
He held up his right hand, "I swear that you can trust me. This plan is full proof."
Her eyes narrowed, but the temptation was too much. She could change things if she took his offer, and 'time traveled'.
"Deal," said Elphaba, "On one condition, that when I change the past, you nor Madame Morrible will try to change it back to the way it is now."
The Wizard smiled at her, "Deal."
With that Elphaba got into the balloon that was hidden nearby to the Palace with her broom, and the Grimmerie in her hands.
The Wizard opened the Grimmerie to the page, and Elphaba read the spell out loud.
"El a kahn na na tona bac wes el," she hummed.
Then the Wizard faded from her view, and all of a sudden she was back at Shiz.
Do you like? I was thinking of this to be a full length book, so let me know and I will post the next chapter soon.
