Hello there! Crystal2112 here. I've been thinking for quite some time that I should re-write Memories of the Past because I'm not happy with my original writing for it. As of now, the original MotP will be deleted. So here you go, Chapter 1 of the Memories of the Past re-write!
It's the first year of college. Fogell and I have been assigned to the same dorm, and Becca comes into our dorm to visit every now and then. I've already finished all my classes for the day, so right now I'm looking at a picture of me and Seth on my cell phone. Tears begin to roll down my face as I remember all the good times I had with him over the years.
"Why are you crying?" Becca, who came into our dorm to visit, asks me.
"Oh, it's nothing," I tell her. "I just...miss my friend...that's all."
"Seth?"
"Yes, him. We had lots of good times during those ten years that I will never forget. I still remember when we first met."
Wednesday, April 2nd, 1997. My parents dropped me off at the school, and then I went into the 2nd grade classroom. I hung my backpack up in my cubby (you know, those tiny lockers that most elementary students have) and sat down at my desk. After a few minutes, the bell rang.
"Good morning class," the teacher said. "Today we have a new student in our school, who comes from Kansas City, MO. Please give a warm welcome to Seth Wenton."
Me and all the students greeted him. I got my pencil and notebook out of my desk as the teacher showed him where to sit.
"Now Seth, you'll sit at this desk right next to Evan." She showed him his desk, and he carried his school supplies over to the desk.
"So your name's Evan, is it?" the chubby boy with the blue eyes and the curly dark brown hair asked me.
"Yep," I replied. "Evan Greenbaum."
"Nice to meet you Evan. I'm Seth."
We shook hands.
"I could really use a friend," he said. "The reason I moved here to California is because everyone in my previous school laughed at me and teased me for being fat."
"I could be your friend. I'm sorry to hear you're being teased. So what if you're fat? It doesn't matter whether someone is fat or not, all that matters is if the person is nice, and it seems like you're a good guy."
"Thanks, Evan."
The teacher interrupted our conversation. "Okay students, let's begin class with the Pledge of Allegiance," she told the class.
Afterwards, we began Language Arts. We weren't allowed to talk anymore, so I whispered to Seth, "We'll talk more at Lunch, OK?"
"OK," he whispered back.
It was lunchtime. I got a plate of spaghetti and breadsticks, an orange, and a bottle of milk, then I sat down at a table with Seth.
"So, how old are you?" Seth asked me.
"I'm 7," I replied.
"I'm 8. I just had my birthday about a week ago."
"What's your favorite TV show? Mine is Rocko's Modern Life."
"Mine is Transformers. What's your favorite video game?"
"Donkey Kong Country."
"I played Donkey Kong Country at Wal-Mart! It was awesome! My favorite game though is Sonic the Hedgehog 3."
"I've heard lots of good things about the Sonic games, but I haven't played them because all I have is a Super Nintendo."
"Evan, you're missing out."
"I know the games will be good, but let's just change the subject. What's your favorite movie?"
"Ghostbusters. I even have a Ghostbusters lunchbox, but it's at home."
"I love that movie, but my favorite is The Lion King. It was the very first movie to make me cry."
As we ate lunch, we continued to talk and get to know each other more. Then, it was time for recess. We went to the swingset.
"Evan, you are the greatest person I have ever known," he said to me as he pushed me on the swing. "And I hope the two of us can go to college together when we grow up."
When we were young, we always dreamed of going to college together. We always imagined what it would be like, the two of us, attending college together.
Later that week, Seth invited me to a sleepover. That Saturday was when we had the sleepover. My parents dropped me off at his house that afternoon. Once I walked up to the house, I rang the doorbell. Seth's mother opened the door.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"I'm Evan, Seth's new friend," I replied.
"Oh, you're the friend that he's been talking about lately. Well come on in."
I went into Seth's house. Seth was in the living room watching Dexter's Laboratory.
"Hi, Evan!" Seth enthusiastically greeted me. "I didn't expect you to get here so early."
"Neither did I," I said.
"Hey, is it OK if I give you a tour of my house?"
"Fine with me."
He showed me around. First place was the kitchen. Next place was his bedroom, then the bathroom, then his parents' room, then the basement.
"You have a nice house," I told him.
"Thanks."
We went back into the living room.
"So, what would you like to do first?" he asked.
"I want to play Sega Genesis."
"Good choice. What game?"
He showed me his games. He had all of the Sonic games, Streets of Rage 2 and 3, Golden Axe, Vectorman, Comix Zone, Mortal Kombat 2, and Shining Force.
"I'll start off with the first Sonic," I said as I grabbed the case.
"Sounds good to me, but once you lose all your lives, we'll play a 2-player game."
I took the Sonic 1 cartridge out of its case and put the cartridge in the Genesis. He changed the TV channel to Channel 3 and turned on the Genesis as I picked up the controller. Little did I know that I was in for a ride. It was a total adrenaline rush as I sped through these colorful levels grabbing rings, destroying robots, and running around loops and ramps. But once I got to the Marble Zone, I lost all my lives. I turned off the Genesis and then I went to the bathroom. Once I was done, I went back into the living room and I saw that Streets of Rage 2 was inserted into the console. Seth started up a co-op game, he chose Axel and I chose Blaze (for a 16-bit sprite, she had some nice tits). He told me the basics, and then we played for about a good hour before it was time for dinner.
After dinner, we brushed our teeth and then we went into the basement. I took my sleeping bag with me, and we stayed up for hours watching movies and playing around. We didn't go to sleep until 5:00 A.M.! We only slept for two hours, because then I was woken up so I could eat breakfast and go home. When I got home, I slept on the couch from 8:00 to noon, which was when it was time to eat lunch. Oh man, I'll never forget that.
Now, before I get any more reviews asking, "Why is Evan's favorite movie The Lion King?" Keep in mind that Evan was a KID at this time. I chose that movie because, simple: IT'S A KID'S MOVIE (and a good one too).
Also, the reason why Seth isn't swearing is because he's only a 2nd grader at this point. He doesn't start swearing until they get into the 4th grade.
