Sorry it took so long, but here's Chapter 7!
Near the end of the 9th grade year, Seth and Shauna finally became a couple. But during the 10th grade year, she started to pay less attention to him.
Thursday, May 5th, 2005. We were nearing the end of our 10th grade year. When heading to lunch, Seth saw Shauna in the hallway, and talked to her.
"So Shauna, have you heard about the end-of-the-year dance?" he asked.
"Yes, but I don't think I can make it," she answered.
"Why not?"
"I'm still busy with band practice, just like I've been for the past few months now."
"Shit. It's okay though, I'll go with Evan."
He walked over to me.
"Hey Evan, since Shauna is still busy with band practice, would you like to come with me to the end-of-the-year dance?"
"Seth, listen," I began. "I doubt she's actually busy with band practice 24/7. I think she's just using that as an excuse to get away from you."
"Why? She loves me. She gave me a dozen handjobs and three-fourths of a blowjob!"
"Yes, but I think she was just using you. I don't think she actually loves you."
...
Thursday, May 26th, 2005. Me and Seth went into the gym, where the dance was being held. They were playing Last Dance by The Raveonettes when we came in. As we walked through the gym, Seth spotted Shauna in the back of the gym, dancing with a guy who had spiky blonde hair, a torn jacket, a nose piercing, and torn pants.
"WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY?" Seth yelled at Shauna.
"This is Rick, the rhythm guitarist I told you about."
"Oh I get it, you weren't actually 'busy with band practice' like you claimed to be. You were cheating on me for this Rick douchebag the whole time!"
The music stopped. Everyone else in the gym stopped dancing, and turned to look at Seth and Shauna.
"Just to let you know," she replied, "I never liked you in the first place! You're a fat, unlovable fuck who only cares about sex."
"I never said that I only cared about sex. You're just making shit up."
The two started arguing for a while, then Shauna punched Seth in the side of the jaw.
"OW! FUCK! MY JAW!"
Blood started to come out of his mouth.
"Are you okay, Seth?" I asked, panicking.
"I don't know!"
The DJ then got out of his chair and ran over to Seth.
"Whoa there, little buddy. You seem to have been punched pretty hard. We gotta get you to the nurse right away!"
Me and the DJ then held Seth up by the shoulders and walked him to the nurse's office. Blood continued to drip from his mouth.
"Are you gonna make it?" I asked, still worried.
"Yeah, I'll make it. It's not like I'm gonna die or anything. Anyway, I should have trusted you when you said that Shauna was just using me. She's a fucking bitch."
"I couldn't agree more. I don't even see what you saw in that girl in the first place."
We reached the nurse's office, and then laid Seth down on one of the beds.
"Oh my god!" the nurse exclaimed in shock. "What happened?"
"My friend got punched in the jaw by his ex-girlfriend," I answered.
"I'll be fine," Seth told the nurse. "I just need an ice pack and a cloth, and some time to lay down."
"Okay. We'll get you a cloth and an ice pack right away. And we'll tell your parents that you might not be coming home for a few hours."
"A few hours is all I need."
I didn't get any sleep that night. I was worried about my friend the whole time. I knew he would be fine. I knew he would recover. But I still couldn't help but worry.
...
The next day, he came up to my house, with an ice pack taped to his cheek.
"Seth! Are you okay now?"
"I'm much better now, Evan. I'm much better."
We gave each other a hug.
"I worried about you the whole night. I stayed up all night because of it. I knew you would be fine, but I was still worried."
"Well I'm better now, and that's all you need to know."
"So are you up for that hike that I promised?"
"Yes I am. Yes I am."
