I do not own Pirates OTC nor their characters, I only claim my OCs and storyline.
This chapter goes out to DarkRose for their kind review that got me working on this again. Enjoy.
The night was still. Port Royal was surrounded by a thick fog which was a bother for the soldiers guarding the fort, it meant they couldn't tell which ships were theirs, and which were enemies.
In the mansion the Commodore stood beside a window watching the soldiers march outside. A cold smile grew on his face. The time drew near.
"He will attack tonight" his hand casually traced down the window, "The night before his wife's execution, there is a fog, people are sleeping, yes Mister Turner will strike Port Royal tonight. Captain Rogusta" he turned to the soldier standing in the doorway, "Inform the troops to evacuate the civilians. As men of his Majesty's Royal Navy we must avoid the slaughter of innocents."
The man nodded and left the room, leaving the Commodore with his thoughts.
Not for long though.
"Commodore?"
His hand clenched slightly as his Lieutenant entered, "Yes Lieutenant?"
"If you are certain he will attack tonight should we not have our fleet brought in to defend the Port?"
"I want his ship to storm our shores before we close the net." The Commodore turned to her, "With his retreat cut off we shall destroy the Dutchman, leaving him trapped here where his crew and he will be executed, after he watches his wife hang."
Rachel nodded, "Shall I take my position?"
"Yes, but before you do…" the Commodore strode over to her, "I want to… apologise for what I said earlier."
Her heart started beating faster as his cold hand stroked her face, "I forgive you my Commodore" she smiled, "Forgive me for my attitude."
"You never need to ask" his emotionless eyes gazed deep into hers, "You are the only one keeping me in check nowadays. When this is over and the seas have been conquered then I look forward to retiring. Then you shall be free to return to your sisters."
Rachel faltered, "But sir, I want to stay with you. Regardless of how long this mission takes I will stand by your side and even when this is over" she clasped hands with him, "Till death do us part."
"Are you serious?" the Commodore raised an eyebrow, "Mermaids have long lasting lives I know but are you sure you don't want to return to the ocean?"
Her face bore a troubled look, "Sir, the longer mermaids stay on land the shorter their lives are. I haven't been on land for a substantial amount of time and during the nights I sleep in the water but if I live alongside you on land then my life will shorten and-" she was cut off as he kissed her.
It was everything she remembered. Passion, fury, desire, all culminated in a single action that confirmed he did indeed love her.
When they broke apart he pulled her into an embrace, "I care about you too much to allow your life to be wasted on me. Once this mission is over you must return to the ocean."
"But" she looked up at him, "I love you. I want to be with you."
The stone wall rose in front of his heart and he stepped away from her, "Prepare the troops."
Swallowing, she bowed her head, "Yes Commodore."
(NOT THAT FAR FROM PORT ROYAL/DUTCHMAN'S DECK)
"Have you got it?" Will glanced around at his crew, "She must be saved above all else."
"Aye Captain" they nodded.
"Jack I want you to-" Will looked around for the pirate, "Where is Jack?"
For an answer one of the crew pointed towards the longboats. Jack was fiddling with the ropes holding it to the ship.
"Jack what are you doing?" Will rubbed his head in frustration.
"I just had a thought William" Jack grinned, "That lass who came to tell me about Elizabeth being set to hang, well I did a bit of me own research and found that she is in fact working for a man known only as 'Commodore'. He is mostly known as being a dedicated supporter of our old friend Beckett."
Will twitched at the mention of that man's name, "So he means to wipe out pirates, starting with the ones responsible for his idol's death."
"That would be the most likely." Jack tugged again at the rope, "So if you don't mind I'll be shoving off."
A hand closed around his shoulder and he looked back at Will, "She's your girl mate. I was just sent to tell you. If you want to sail straight into a trap be my guest but don't include me in it."
"Please Jack" Will urged, "I need your help to save her."
Jack flapped his hands, "How many times have I heard this? You need my helpto save her."
"For old times' sake?"
With a great display of thinking about it Jack finally extended his hand, "Alright"
"Thank you" Will took the hand.
"But I want your help to bring back the Pearl and any gold we find belonging to the Commodore I get to keep." Jack quickly shook Will's hand, "Glad we have an agreement."
The captain groaned. Jack always found a way to make any situation work for him.
(MIDNIGHT/PORT ROYAL)
If the soldiers on guard at the docks had very good eyesight to see through the fog they would've noticed a small dingy approaching. But they didn't.
For that dingy held Captain Jack Sparrow, sworn enemy of the East India Trading Company and the Royal Navy.
He slipped unnoticed into the port and up into the town. The plan was relatively simple. He would get into the mansion, find Elizabeth, signal the Dutchman by ringing the bell tower three times, and then when William started his attack it would cover the escape. Fool proof.
But as he approached the mansion things went slightly wrong.
A company of soldiers surrounded the place in a tight formations and patrols. In an upstairs window he spotted a tall man with ghostly white skin in an officer's uniform.
"Commodore" he muttered.
There was some commotion and his eyes narrowed as soldiers emerged from the building, carrying a struggling woman. He couldn't make out who it was but he had a hunch.
"Let go of me!" the voice was unmistakable.
"Elizabeth" he muttered.
The soldiers bundled the woman into a carriage and set off, accompanied by a dozen more on horseback. "To the gallows!" one of them cheered, "Where she shall hang!"
Cheers echoed around Jack as he looked up at the window again. The Commodore was gone.
Time to improvise.
(FORT)
"Any sign of trouble Captain?" the Commodore strode along beside Rogusta.
"Nothing yet sir," he shook his head, "All the civilians have been evacuated and the soldiers have everything secured. If Turner hits us we'll give him hell."
A deep resonating sound echoed across the entire port. The bell tower was ringing.
"Captain" the Commodore raised an eyebrow, "Prepare for attack."
A dull explosion was heard.
"What's that?" Rogusta frowned.
"Cannon fire" the Commodore strode away casually.
A large chunk of rock exploded as the cannonball blasted into the fort, just a few feet from where the Commodore had been standing, knocking Rogusta to the ground.
"Orders sir!" the Captain got to his feet as alarm bells began ringing.
"Return fire" the Commodore looked back at him, "And summon the fleet."
(DOCKS)
The Flying Dutchman sailed into Port Royal cannons blazing. Will grimaced as he remembered a similar occasion only with the Barbossa and the Black Pearl and instead of him and the Dutchman.
"Go men!" he shouted.
His duty-bound crew quickly disembarked onto the wooden piers. An army of soldiers was pouring out of the houses already.
"Charge!" the pirates darted forward to seize control of the beach before the soldiers could cut them off.
"Where's Jack?" Will looked at his father, "Do you see him?"
"The fog works two ways William" Bootstrap answered, "But if I know Jack then he's on his way back here right now."
(FORT)
In actual fact Jack was going the other way, namely getting inside the fort. After ducking another cannonball, which opened a hole for him, he crept inside and found the gallows.
With the Commodore and another squad of troops standing beside them.
Two more soldiers appeared dragging a woman towards the gallows, despite her struggles. Her hair was bedraggled and hung across her face.
"Elizabeth Swann, or Turner I should say" the Commodore waved at the gallows, "You will hang for your crimes. I only wish your husband could be here." The soldiers placed her on the platform and tied the rope around her neck, "But I'm afraid we are out of time."
A cannonball sailed through the air and landed on the group of soldiers, they crumbled under the impact and shockwave produced. Leaving only the Commodore and the two marines holding Elizabeth.
"Commodore" Jack stepped out of the shadows with a broad grin, "I will take custody of your prisoner."
Respect where it's due the Commodore didn't even blink, "I should have known that pirate scumbag Turner would cry to you for help."
"Let the girl go mate" Jack drew his sword, "As we speak pirates are overrunning your positions, the Flying Dutchman is pounding this port, oh and you are defenceless."
The Commodore clicked his fingers, "Kill him."
Jack turned as the two soldiers rushed at him. In the corner of his eye he spotted the Commodore striding away.
After dispatching the soldiers he hurried over to Elizabeth and cut through the rope, "C'mon girl. William is waiting."
Blood sprayed as a knife stabbed into his arm. He looked at the hand wielding it then at the woman he had just released. It wasn't Elizabeth.
"Thanks Jack" Rachel grinned proudly as she watched realisation cross Jack's face, "I'll be sure to find Will." She clubbed him over the head with the handle of her knife.
Slowly, but surely Jack Sparrow collapsed to the ground. Rachel examined her knife carefully before waving over a squad of soldiers over to take him away and lock him up.
(APPROACHING PORT ROYAL)
Fourteen ships were closing in. Their orders were simple. Prevent the escape of William Turner and sink the Flying Dutchman.
Half the ships were carrying soldiers and equipment to help the defending garrison of soldiers; they would break away from the other half and provide support while the other seven ships would continue on a direct course for the bay, and the Dutchman.
(MANOR)
It was getting desperate as Elizabeth struggled with her bounds. She had been dragged outside and forced into a wagon but then had been brought back here. If someone had been trying to help her they would assume she was at the fort to be hung.
The door opened and her tormentor appeared.
"Come with me" he produced a sword and slashed through the ropes. With one hand he grabbed her arm and forcefully pulled her from the room.
"Where are you taking me?" she demanded.
As they approached the stairs she shoved him. His grip loosened enough for her to pull free before he fell over the banisters and landed with a nasty crack on the floor below.
Elizabeth hurried down the stairs and out the door without a second glance. She knew what ship was in the bay, and it was the only way out before the net closed on Will.
While she was running away from the manor someone else was approaching it.
"He'll be so happy" Rachel smiled brightly as she almost skipped to the mansion.
She entered the house and looked around. Her face went white.
The Commodore was lying on the floor; blood was seeping from his mouth and nose. Judging from the cracks around him he had fell over the banister.
Or had been pushed.
"Commodore!" she screamed as she rushed to his side, "Please, please! No, not after all this. You are not dead!" she shook him violently; "Wake up damn you!"
He still didn't move.
She turned cold and slowly wiped the blood away from his face.
"Please wake up" she whispered, "I love you"
There was no movement, but she could feel a heartbeat… and smell a distinct female's aroma.
"That bitch" Rachel sprang to her feet, "I'll murder her myself!" she hurried out of the house and into the night.
(STREETS)
"Come on boys!" the pirates stormed through the streets.
"Stand strong men!" troops rushed at the brutish thugs and both sides collided into a full scale brawl.
Then a wonderful sound filled the air.
"Reinforcements!" a lookout shouted as he spotted sails just off the coast.
The support fleet was almost here.
Elizabeth ran through the streets. Moving quick enough meant the soldiers mistook her for a civilian and the pirates were under orders not to kill any civilians.
"There she is!" a cry went up whether from a pirate or marine she didn't know but all eyes turned towards her.
In that moment the battle turned even more violent. The pirates' sole reason for being here was to rescue her while the soldiers' duty was to prevent her escape.
On she ran, ignoring the bodies that littered the ground or the blood that sprayed across her white dress. This nightmare never seemed to end as more and more soldiers began to appear in the distance, before cannon fire sent them flying into the ruins of a house.
Port Royal was being destroyed yet again by pirates.
The irony was lost on Elizabeth though she did note that once again on a night like this her destination was the invading pirate ship.
Life was strange sometimes.
(DUTCHMAN)
His crew had begun falling back to the ship as marines swarmed from the support ships.
"Captain" Bootstrap hastened to his side, "Seven more ships are on a direct course for us, all heavily armed. If we stay we will be trapped, Will" he gripped his son's shoulder, "There is nothing we can do."
"WILL!"
He rushed to the front of the ship and gazed frantically into the smoke and fire. What he saw sent a chill through him.
Elizabeth was being held by a female marine who had a knife to her neck.
"Shut up" the woman hissed as she seized a handful of Elizabeth's hair and yanked on it.
"ELIZABETH!" Will shouted.
For a brief moment their eyes met, but then a damaged building behind them collapsed. Debris showered down on the woman who flung Elizabeth aside to dive out of the way. The street was blocked as more and more weakened structures gave way.
Which turned the tide instantly. Now the reinforcements were unable to reach their comrades, the pirates seized their chance and turned back to re-engage the few remaining marines while a small group rushed to aid Elizabeth.
(FORT)
"All cannons take aim" Captain Rogusta ordered, "Have the entire barrage focused on the Flying Dutchman."
The remaining men hastened to load the few cannons that had survived the brutal assault and took aim at the bay.
"Incoming!"
Another cannonball smashed into the fort, this time it sent half three men over the edge and destroyed two more cannons.
"Fire!" Rogusta bellowed.
(BAY)
"Blast it" Rachel groaned as she watched helplessly while a group of pirates helped Elizabeth to the ship. When the building behind her had collapsed a large chunk of rock had landed on her legs, they weren't damaged but she was stuck here until the reinforcements could get through to her.
As the sounds of battle faded away her thoughts turned to her beloved Commodore.
"I will avenge you my love" she swore.
"No need" a pale white face appeared out of the dark.
"Commodore?" she whispered.
He smiled coldly, "Yes Rachel, now let's get you out of here."
For a moment she thought he had gone to get help, next thing she felt the chunk of stone lift off her legs and turned to see the Commodore lifting it by himself. He lifted it above his head and flung it a good twenty feet.
"Are you going to stay there?" he offered her his hand, "Or are we going to prevent their escape?"
Rachel gripped the hand and he lifted her easily to her feet, "What of our support ships?"
"They should be in position by now" he smirked, "We shall watch the inferno."
Soldiers flanked him as they strode to the pier. The Dutchman was in full retreat as it headed to escape the port. Soon they would be trapped as the seven ships emerged from the fog… in flames.
"What?" Rachel looked at the Commodore, "Orders sir"
His eyes were filled with shock as he watched his plan fall apart.
"Orders sir" Rogusta and a company of soldiers arrived.
The three stood and watched as another ship emerged from the fog. Another well-known ship.
"Queen Ann's Revenge." The Commodore spat the captain's name as though it was poison, "Barbossa"
For it was indeed the Pirate Lord Hector Barbossa.
"Ahoy there Captain Turner" his blackened teeth were bared in a proud grin, "I be hearing you need help."
Cheers went up from the pirates on the Dutchman as they sailed out of the port unhindered.
"So long Commodore" Will waved happily, "We won't be seeing you again."
"Commodore!" a marine rushed up to him, "Someone broke into the fort, Sparrow is gone"
As if to rub it in, afore mentioned pirate appeared on the deck of Queen Anne's Revenge waving brightly despite the large bandage around him.
"Bye love," he grinned at Rachel, "Next time make you sure you send more soldiers to escort Captain Jack Sparrow."
Rachel swore bitterly under her breath.
The Commodore, Rogusta, and Rachel watched as the two ships sailed away.
"Sir?" Rogusta looked at his commanding officer.
"Tend to our wounded, dispose of the dead. If there are any pirates still living then slit their throats on sight." The Commodore strode away, "If you need me I shall be at the manor."
Rachel and Rogusta saluted before turning to each other.
"Is he okay?" the Captain began to send the troops to begin searching for survivors and to gather the dead, "I noticed a lot of blood dried to the back of his head."
"That woman pushed him over the banister in the manor" Rachel marched alongside the Captain, "And she will pay for it."
Rogusta nodded, "Well it will be difficult, we lost half our fleet, Barbossa attacked our battleships from behind as they approached the Dutchman. Our casualties are going to be high and the seven transport ships were not built for warfare."
"Then we will need to get new ships" Rachel frowned, "Wait a minute…" she strode away quickly.
Captain Rogusta shrugged and went back to helping his men.
