Author's note: A short about what happened after Hotel Dusk for about five muinutes. Sorry that it's kinda crazy- this is my first story…I might make a part 2 if I get good feedback, so please leave comments! Well, here goes…
Slowly, the beat- up station wagon pulled out and left Hotel Dusk- Hyde didn't feel quite ready to leave that wild goose-chase for Bradley at that, but hell, this moment had to come sometime… As for Mila, she just stared mindlessly out of the window, almost as if she was in some sort of trance; for a few minutes, they just sat there without saying a single word to each other.
Hyde was first to break the awkward silence; he was starting to have second thoughts on this crazy idea- for example, his diminutive apartment was no place to raise a young girl (well, mentally, at least…)
"Look, Mila… Are you sure you don't want to stay at the Dusk? It's not too late to change your mind, ya know…"
The girl merely shook her head.
"You sure? You know, Rosa would look after you much better than I would…"
Hyde wasn't trying to shake her off, he was simply worried about her wellbeing- however, Mila got the wrong impression.
"Mr. Hyde… are you…mad at me? I'm sorry…" Her face fell like a brick, and she let out a long sigh.
'Damn. Nice going, Hyde; I've made her miserable now..!Damn, I knew this was a bad idea…'
Desperate not to upset her any further, he tried to be nice (well, as sensitive as the salesman could be.)
"Please, just call me Kyle. Mila, don't be sad, I'm just worried about you, that's all. It'll be fine!"
Slightly bewildered by his sudden change of tone, Mila just gawped at him dumbly. A few minutes later, she finally managed to speak:
"Do you promise, Mr. Hyde?"
"Mila, for God's sake, it's… aw, crap."
Kyle was filling up with doubt by the second, but he couldn't escape those innocent puppy-dog eyes.
From that moment on, he knew that he had just taken on a huge responsibility, but deep in his heart, he knew it would all pay off. All he could say was:
"Hell, I'm going soft…"
