Saving Private Ryan
Chapter 1 – The End
There were bombs being thrown everywhere, explosions left and right. Gunshots. That's the one thing you heard most of. You couldn't tell which side was winning. You hoped and prayed to the lord above you that everything turned out just fine and that you were on the winning side. This war will change you, it will show you who you truly are, and show you just how gruesome life can be. By the end of a war you realize just how many people died for one cause and how many people you got close to died. I was once asked "How many people did you know that died in this war?" and I told her "I knew every single one of those soldiers died or alive, formally introduced or not I knew every single one of them and the pain they went thru."
In memory of the soldiers who have fallen.
"It was June 6th, 1944 D-Day."
Omaha Beach that was our destination, men were throwing up on the boat, I would of puked too had it not been that I was use to this by now. I had my sniper in hand and ready to go. "Clear the rim! 30 seconds! God be with you" 'Here we go' I thought. Captains were yelling out orders I wasn't paying attention though I was trying to strategize a plan in less than 30 seconds my first plan was to stay alive my second plan well I didn't really have a second plan.
I pulled the cross out of my shirt and kissed it and then tuck it back under. When the rim came down almost everyone was shoot I ducked down and waited for them to stop shooting at our boat and once they did I grabbed the dead body on top of me and used him as a shield it wasn't my best plan but it would sure as hell keep my first plan alive. I got more than halfway up the beach when I noticed that my guy had more than 60 bullets in him.
I felt bad for the poor bastard but at least I knew he was safe up in heaven. I laid the man down gently on the ground and started running for the sand walls. Everything was in utter chaos men were screaming, gunshots and bombs going off and the once blue sea now red. I dived into the sand walls and was met with a "Who the hell are you?"
"Private Jake Anderson 2nd Ranger Baker Company Sir." "Ah, what's your talent Anderson?" "Sniper Sir." "Good Jackson, Anderson! You see that impact crater?" "Yes Sir" We said at the same time. "That should give you complete cover from that machine gun position. Get in there and give me some fire. Wait for my command!" Jackson and I set up our snipers and waited for the command. I re-pulled the cross from my shirt and kissed it again. "God give me the strength to accept the things that I cannot change" I said shooting the first German "the courage to change the things I can" I said shooting the last German "and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen." I said getting up and smirking at Jackson. After that every American came in and started shooting at the Germans and clearing the trenches to make sure no one else was there. I just sat on a rock and watched as everyone was shooting it was obvious that they could do without one hand. I looked around at my surrounding men crying and dying it was a terrible scene. A man came and stood in front of me he was blocking the little light that I could take in.
"So Miss. Anderson I how are you on this fine evening?" I looked up, only one person could know who I was – "Jack!" I jumped into his arms and hugged him "Thank god you're safe." I said my helmet got knocked off by accident and my hair came flying down it wasn't that long but it was still long it was about shoulder length a little longer. "Uh-Oh" Jack said. I jumped out of his arms and saw the General coming 'I'm screwed' I thought. "Private Anderson?" He asked I nodded. "Come with me." He said I started walking with him but turned around and made a face at Jack, he stuck his tongue out at me I laughed.
"Now you know girls aren't allowed in war." He said I raised an eyebrow at him "Than why am I here?" I asked "I don't I'm wondering the exact same thing, you're on the first trip out of here Anderson." He said "But sir! I have been in this war longer than most man here! I have fought longer and harder! I deserve to be here!" He shook his head "No you don't you're a women your supposed to be at home finding a man to marry by now." He said "I think that would be a little tough sir considering more than half of them are here." I smirk at him. I knew my smartass ways were going to get me in trouble but what's the worse he can do throw me out of the army? Oh, yea! He did that already! I sat myself in a chair watching the General talk to people.
I saw him motion me over I stood up and walked over not really caring anymore everything I wanted to do was ripped out from underneath me. "Sir?" The man asked "She has a one way ticket home with Private Ryan as well. I'd watch though she's a bit of a smartass. Then she'll fit right in with the guys!" The man laughed. "Captain Miller met Private Anderson" The general said. "As yea we met on the beach, very good aim matched my snipers talents actually even better." I smirked proud of myself yes well see to it that she makes it home." "Yes sir" Well my men are over in that direction ask for a Sargent Horvath when you get there and don't even think about running away." "Yes sir" I said and started walking in the direction Captain Miller pointed me too.
I ran into my friend Jack along the way though. "Here's your helmet back and I'm sorry." He said hugging me. "Don't be sorry I actually enjoyed my time here plus I get a little more cause we have to find a Private Ryan. I'll write to you okay Jack?" "Good" He said smiling I hugged him one last time and kept walking in the same direction I came up to a group who started at me as I walked up to them. "Sargent Horvath?" I asked "Yes?" He asked "Good" I said and sat down. "Who the hell are you?" A man asked before I could speak someone answered for me "Private Anderson is her name and she has a one way ticket home. She will be with us to help Save Private Ryan." "A women sir?" Another man asked. "Yes Reiben a women." The Captain said.
