Digimon: Conspiracy Of One
Chapter 1: Serendipty
Davis felt electric with emotions. The air seemed to be dancing with excitement, but the excitement was clearly in the eye of the beholder. TK, on the other side of Odaiba, was thinking something very different. What a boring night.
"Hey Patamon?" he asked.
"Yeah?" his litle flying friends said, turning around to face him.
"Do you have anything on your mind?"
"Not really. Why do you ask?" TK looked around the uneventful room.
"Cause I'm bored, and there's nothing to do."
"Aren't those the same thing?" Patamon asked confused.
"No, there can be things to do, and I can still be bored." TK heaved a great sigh as he looked once more around the room.
"What are you thinking about?" Patamon asked TK. TK grinned widely.
"My last date with Kari," he said, chuckling. "We almost ran right into Davis, but Kari was able to find a place to hide in a bush. Boy was that a close one. It's been like that ever since we started going out two and a half months ago." Patamon looked concerned as TK looked over at his companion. "What's wrong Patamon?"
"I still think that you two should tell Davis. He's going to find out eventually, and it would be better to find it out from you or Kari, instead of walking in on you guys while you are watching a movie or something."
"Hey," TK started, "if Davis walks in on us and his heart shatters, maybe his heart wasn't strong enough to take it. He isn't good enough for her." Patamon looked on worriedly.
Meanwhile
Davis was felling quite joyous from what he had heard.
"Why are you so happy Davish?" Davis turned to his partner.
FLASHBACK
Davis was walking down the halls of his school headed towards his next class, when he heard a familiar voice inside the computer lab.
"...yeah Yolei, he is just so amazing!" Kari said. Davis stopped outside the door and listened intently. I hope she's talking about me, he thought. "His parsonality is just so unique. His looks are wonderous, and I've known him for so long. I'm just glad that he feels the same way." Davis listened on.
"But don't you think you should tell Davis?" Davis' heart skipped a beat. She was talking about me!
"He'll find out, but when is up to him."
"You should tell him Kari."
"No. He can find out on his own. If he doesn't in a few months, then I'll tell him."
Davis sped off, very happy with what he had heard, and ran into his classroom.
END FLASHBACK
"I found something very interesting out today, Veemon." Davis picked up the phone, filled with excitement. "I have something very important to take care of," he said.
He picked up the phone and dialed Karis' number. The phone began to ring.
"Hello?" Tai answered the phone.
"Hey Tai. I was wondering if Kari was there."
"Yeah. Hold on." Tai walked into Karis' room and handed her the phone.
"Hello?" she said.
"Hey. How's it going?" Davis asked calmly.
"Not to bad. You?"
"Oh, it's going great!" Davis said enthusiastically.
"Was there something you had to say?" Kari asked him.
"Yeah," Davis answered. "I was wondering if you wanted to go out and do something with me tonight." Kari, on the other end, was completely taken aback by what he had to say. She quickly regained her composure however.
"Oh, I'd love to Davis, but..." Davis' heart sank slightly. "But I have a family thing that I need to go to. Maybe some other time. Sorry."
"Oh, no problem. I don't want to be a problem for you and your family."
"Thanks for understanding Davis." Davis smiled.
"No problem. Anytime. Well, I guess I'll talk to you later."
"Okay. Bye Davis."
"Bye Kari." She hung up the phone.
"Your just making things worse," a voice said from her doorway. "You owe it to him to be truthful."
"I don't owe him anything Tai. I can make my own decisions now." Tai just shook his head and turned to leave, but looked over his shoulder and said one more thing.
"That may be true, but since when does going on a date with TK qualify as a family event." Tai left the apartment to go to the ice creame shop.
Meanwhile
Davis hung up the phone and turned to his blue companion.
"You wanna go do something?" Davis asked.
"Yeah!"
"Okay. How does ice cream sound?" Davis prodded.
"YEAH!! YEAH!!" Veemon whooped. "ICE CREAM!!"
Davis smiled at his friends actions. "Let's go," he said.
Back At The Ice Cream Parlor
Tai walked up to the counter.
"What can I get you?" the ice cream guy said.
"Vanilla cone. It's the only thing to cheer me up," Tai said, thinking of how one of his friends, Davis, was being decieved.
"That will be 250 Yen," the guy said. Tai handed over the money, as the man scooped his ice cream. Tai heard the door open and looked in the glass to see who was behind him. Davis. Tai whirled around to meet him.
"Tai?!" Davis said surprised. "What are you doing here? Kari said that you guys had a family thing going on tonight." Tai raced for an answer.
"Uh...it got canceled," Tai blurted. Davis' face brightened, and Tai immediately mentally scolded himself.
"Great! I'll go see what Kari is doing." He turned around to leave.
"Wait!" Tai said. "Don't go!" Davis turned around to face Tai again.
"Why? Is something important happening?" Davis said puzzled.
"No," Tai said. I'm not going to cover up for you anymore Kari. Now you get the consequences of your actions. I just hope that Davis doesn't get completely deranged. His eyes darted between Davis and Veemon for a second. "Actually, I think you should go and talk to Kari. Go and see what she's doing." He had a slight manic glint in his eye. See what Kari is really doing.
"Okay," Davis said, brushing off Tai's strange comment. "I'll see you later."
"I just hope that you actually will talk to me later," Tai said under his breath as he watched Davis leave.
Back At The Kamiyas' Apartment
Kari heard a knock on the door and raced to answer it. She opened the door to reveal TK, standing there with Patamon hovering next to his head. She gave him a kiss and told him to come in.
"So what are we doing?" TK asked.
"We are gonna watch a movie," Kari told him, placing a DVD in the player. They turned everything on, and sat down on the couch. The Fast And The Furious began to play as they both held each other. The movie had just barely begun, when there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get it," TK said. "That must be the pizza I ordered." Kari smiled.
"You ordered pizza?" He nodded as he got up to get the door. He walked over and turned the nob, but who was waiting on the other side wasn't who he had expected.
"Davis?!" TK said stunned. "What..what are you doing here?" As the door had opened, and TK was on the other side, Davis' mood dropped dramatically.
"I was here to see..." Kari walked from to the left of the door and came into view. "Kari."
"Hey TK, is the pizza.." she saw who was at the door. "Here." Davis' eyes began to well.
"I guess I better go," he said. TK said nothing but Kari spoke up.
"Davis! Wait!" Davis spun on his heels, tears and anger in his eyes.
"Wait!? For what!? Do you want money for the pizza?? Here!!" he said as he thrust money in the couples direction. "There! Now I'm leaving!!"
"But Davis," Kari said, "I was gonna tell you." Davis turned to face her once more. This time his eyes had a hatred in them, but the tears were gone, only remnants remained.
"THE HELL YOU WERE!! YOU WANTED ME TO FIND OUT HIS WAY!" Davis said, thinking back to what he had overheard. "YOU ONLY TOLD YOLEI THAT YOU WOULD TELL ME LATER TO SATISFY HER! WELL YOU GOT WHAT YOU WANTED!!" With that, Davis kicked the door, which swung open all the way, then bounced shut, and he left.
The Next Day At School
Davis walked through the halls, head hung low in deep thought and sorrow. He was headed to his locker before school, but something weird was going on he noticed. All the kids were whispering and talking to each other, and giving him weird glances. What in the world is going on? he thought. As he got to his locker, one of his friends came up to him.
"Hey Seiki. Hows it going?" The guy turned his head away from Davis and looked down. "Is something wrong Seiki?"
"That's what I should be asking you," he said to Davis, looking back up. "But I already know the answer." Davis looked at him oddly.
"What are you talking about?" Davis said, trying to see if he really knew.
"C'mon, it's okay Davis. I know how much Kari meant to you." Davis' eyes widened, but his pupils narrowed.
"How did you find out about that?" Davis said in a decievingly calm voice.
"Everyone knows buddy. One of Karis' neighbors goes here, and heard and saw everything." Davis looked daggers as he turned to his locker and put in the combo. "I'm sorry Dai. I really am." Davis turned to Seiki as he pulled his books out. He plastered a fake smile on his face.
"I know you are Sei, but your not the one who should be sorry." Davis turned and walked off to his first class. As soon as he walked in, the class got silent, and all eyes turned on him. Finally someone spoke up.
"You should have known better, Motomiya," a big guy in the back said. "Your nowhere near Karis' level." Davis walked over to the guy.
"No one is at Karis' level," he said. "Not even me."
"Sure. Just keep telling yourself that," the guy said, as he started laughing. the rest of the class began to join in. Self control, Davis, self control. He isn't responsible. The guy stopped laughing to say something again. "I guess it was predictable. You just can't measure up to TK." Davis' blood bagan to boil.
"Maybe not," Davis said in a calm sort of angry voice. "But I can measure up to you," Davis said as the guy started laughing again. Davis punched the guy in the nose, and there was a sickening crunch as blood bgan to trickle out of the guys nostril. Everyone stopped laughing and backed up, right as the teacher walked into the classroom.
"What's going on?" the teacher asked. The guy with the bloody nose ran up to the teacher, pointing to the blood. "Who did this?" the teacher asked. All hands in the room pointed to Davis, as he looked at the guy with the bloody nose. "Motomiya! Principals! NOW!"
"He got what he deserved," Davis said in a soft, but confidently calm voice.
"NOW!!" Davis picked up his things and went to the principals office.
After School, Computer Lab
Kari walked into the computer lab, to find all the other digidestined except for Davis, waiting.
"Are we ready?" she asked.
"No," Tai said. "Davis isn't here." As soon as Tai finished his explanation, Davis came walking calmly by Kari into the room.
"Wow," he said, with a voice full of hurt anger. "You guys actually told me about the meeting. I thought that maybe you would all just let me find out on my own."
"Davi-"
"Shut up Tai," Davis interupted. Everyone was completely stunned at this. He never talked like that to Tai. "Your all so surprised," Davis said, looking around. "You knew," Davis told Tai. "You knew and you told me to go anyway." Everyone turned to Tai.
"I wanted you to know, but I couldn't tell you." Tai hung his head. "I couldn't work up the courage." Everyone was taken aback by this, even Davis.
"Well," Davis said, "since I am sure that you all knew, and didn't tell me, I just can't see how you ever counted me as a friend. But if that's the way you all like it, fine."
"But I didn't know Davis," Ken said, "I would have told you."
"Which is the reason you didn't know. They knew that you would tell me Ken. They knew that you were actually a friend." He looked across all of their faces. "Why didn't you all tell me? Afraid of hurting my feelings? Was that it?"
A few of the others looked down or away from Davis.
"Well a lot of fucking good that did!" Davis' eyes were full of fire. "Now, I have something to say that might interest you all." Everyone looked back at Davis. "I'm leaving. Tomorrow. If you see me ever again, count yourselves lucky. Or unlucky, whichever suites you better," he said, piercing TK with his firey stare. "But seeing as we all like keeping secrets between you guys and me, I'm not gonna tell you why. For those of you who care enough to wonder, the last time you'll see me is here at exactly 7 AM." Everyone looked at him shocked.
"Don't run away-"
"I'm not running from anything Matt. I just have something that after today and yesterday, became more important than staying here. I wish I could say good-bye, but all that I can tell you is so long." With that, he left. A few of the others were teary eyed. No one knew what to say, except for Ken.
"I hope your all happy," Ken said, turning to Kari. "Especially you! Your happiness and convenience isn't worth losing a friend like Davis, but you were all too blind to see that! You all didn't let me in on it because you knew that I valued my friendship with Davis more than some convenient set up for you two." Ken said to TK and Kari. "I don't know about you, but I do care enough to see where he is going, and after what I've found out today, I FEEL LIKE GOING WITH HIM!" Ken also left in huff, and now everyone felt so guilty about what they had done, that they weren't even looking at each other. Tai got up and walked to the door, but before he walked out, he said one thing over his shoulder.
"I guess I'm not sleeping in tomorrow."
Next Morning At Davis' House
Davis packed his backpack full of a few clothes, and some possesions that he valued. He put in a picture of everyone together, his favorite book, and a picture of him with Kari when they were 8. He thought back to when the picture was taken. Those were the days, he thought. The good old days. He remembered why he was leaving, and grabbed a device that looked like a cross between a Star Trek Tricorder, and a D3. He put it in his pocket.
"Let's go Veemon," he said. Him and Veemon left the apartment, leaving a note on the door. He walked slowly towards the school, thinking his decision over in his head. He pulled out his device, and looked at it intently.
"Your doing the right thing Davish," Veemon piped up, noticing his facial experession. "Gennai said that it was tiem to go."
"I know," Davis said, "but I wish that I didn't have to leave under these circumstances."
"Were you serious when you said that they would be luck to see you again Davish?" Davis thought about his answer to the question.
"No. I'll be back. I'll have to be back. But I was upset, and that's why I said that." The school became visible as Davis approached it. He walked into the school towards the computer lab, and was shocked when he opened the door. Everyone was there.
"What are you all doing here?" Davis asked surprised.
"We all care enough," Tai said. "That's why we're here." Davis looked around the room, and saw everyone, except for...
"Where's Kari and TK?" Davis asked. Everyone was silent, and Davis' face fell. "I see. Well, I guess I know who cares."
Meanwhile
"Hurry TK! Were not gonna be in time to see Davis!!"
"Why are we even going," TK asked. "It's not as if we can change his mind."
"I know, but I still want to say good-bye." She pulled TK faster as they dodged in and out of the crowd, trying to get to the school.
Back At The Lab
"Please don't go," Ken said to Davis. "We really are your friends."
"I know that you all are, but I also know who isn't now." He pulled out the device. "I must be going."
"But where are you going?" Yolei asked him.
"To find myself, and become myself."
"Please don't go because of Kari and TK," Cody said. Davis simply hung his head and pressed a few buttons on the device.
"All this sorrow becomes me," he said into the device, as a tear in the air formed behind him. (A/N: Think of someone taking a knife and tearing a bedsheet. That's what the portal looked like.)
But it became clear to the group that something was not going the way Davis had expected it to. A set of tentacle like arms reached out and grabbed him, trying to pull him into the portal. Arms reached out and also grabbed Veemon with the same effect.
"Help!" Davis shouted. Everyone ran forward to try and help, but the portal sent a shockwave out that knocked them all to the ground. The tentacles looked like they were winning, but Davis stared to pull them in the opposite direction. Then, right when everyone thought that Davis and Veemon might have been able break loose, the tentacles went through them and pulled what looked like a transparent Davis and Veemon into the portal. Kari and TK walked in just in time to see the tentacles go back inside the portal, and see the portal close.
"No!" Kari said. "We were too late!" Then she noticed Davis and Veemon unconcious on the floor. Gatomon and the other digimon ran to Veemon, as everyone went to see if Davis was okay.
"Wake up!" Ken said, shaking Davis. "WAKE UP!!" Davis and Veemon both began to stir. Davis opened his eyes, and sat up.
"Thank you for your assistance," Davis said in a very monotone, melechony type of voice. "I no longer require the help that you are offering." Everyone looked at each other. They didn't know what to think of the way Davis was acting. "Veemon. Let us leave this place."
"Affirmative," Veemon answered with the same sort of voice. They both stood and left without looking back once.
Meanwhile
Davis woke up and rubbed his head. He saw Veemon on the ground next to him. Where am I? he thought. He looked around himself. He was on what apeared to be solid ground, but the sky was a swirl of blue and purple, with red lightning streaking here and there. The area of ground that they were on seemed to be protected by a transparent dome, which the lightning often struck. He looked around and saw another boy, a boy who looked very familiar...
Authors Note: Wow. Who is the boy? Where is Davis? Why is he there? Or is he back home? You didn't think I would actually tell, did you? The only way to find out is to read the next chapter, which I am working on now. Postage coming in the form of more chappies soon. I'm in a really good mood, so I might even keep the Takari going for one more chapter. thinks about it for a second Naaaaaaaaaaaa. But I will have someone for TK. He won't be alone...snicker...Again.
