Max POV

I looked around, paralyzed. My feet wouldn't move, no matter how hard I tried to will myself to run, to find help. The door slammed and locked behind me, and the blackness hid the world. I was afraid to say anything, what if I did and whoever it was shot my way? Instead, I forced my foot off the ground and took one shaky step forward, never making a sound.

I wanted to call out for Fang, but I couldn't. My voice wouldn't work. I took another step forward, blinking back the tears that were threatening to spill out. The gun shot again, and a bullet whizzed pas my ear. I screamed inwardly, forcing myself to take a deep breath and stay calm. My ears rung from the ear-shattering noise the gun had made, and it was all I could do to hear the shallow breathing in front of me.

I shivered as I realized it was Fang. Where was he? I suddenly realized how the breathing echoed. He wasn't in front of me, he couldn't be more than thirty feet away.

I silently walked straight ahead until I felt a wall, and then a headboard. A finger traced the bed as I walked around it, willing Fang to make a sound to show that he was here, that he was alive. The next thing I know a hand locks around my ankle and a slight yelp escapes me. Pure terror fills me and my heart beat quickens. The hand lets me go, and then a few minutes later is on my shoulder.

"It's me Max." A voice hissed into my ear so quietly I could just barely make out the words. Wordlessly, he pulled me towards the window. "The minute I open the curtains, hell will break loose. Dodge and get out." I nodded, forgetting he couldn't see me.

He positioned me behind one side of the curtains and yanked open the other, wasting no time, his fist flew through the window and it shattered. And then bullets flew wildly, ricocheting, and actually helping break the window more.

He fell through the window, and I knew he had been shot. Tears stung at my eyes. I stayed hidden behind the curtain though. The moonlight shown through for a moment, before a masked figure yanked the curtain shut. And in the minute, I saw him by the bathroom door, that was opened.

Taking a risk, I bolted over there, straight into the bathroom, and dived into the tub as bullets flew wildly. Pain ran through my arm and I felt like someone had lit it on fire and was laughing as my flesh burned.

The door slammed shut and- my already-ringing ears screamed in pain- locked tight. For a scary moment, I thought it was the person with the gun, coming to finish me off. I looked down at my bleeding arm and saw the bullet halfway in. letting out a shaky breath, I yanked the golden cylinder out of my skin and looked up at him.

To my relief, it wasn't the person that had pulled a gun on my best friend, it was just Fang. I sighed in relief and let myself cry. Fang sat down in the tub an pulled me into his lap. Only then did I realize he was bleeding. Only then did I realize Fang had been shot in his abdomen. Not close enough to the heart to kill him instantly. But not in a minor area that would guarantee his life either.

Fang wrapped his arms tighter around me and I buried my face in his chest and cried. "Don't die Fang." I whispered. "If you die, I will too."

"Shh, it's gonna be okay Max." Each word sounded force, like the pain Fang was in was too much to handle. "Everything will be alright."

"How do you know?" I asked.

"Max, you're going to be okay. I promise." We both knew it was a lie, but I hugged Fang anyways and acted like what he said was true.

Just then a bullet whizzed through the door and went straight through the wall. I pushed myself closer to Fang and prayed. I prayed that everything would be alright, that Fang would live, that my friend would be okay, that I would be here tomorrow.

But somewhere deep down, in the darkest part of my soul, the only place where negative is aloud, I knew Fang wasn't going to make it. I knew my friend was already dead. An I knew I would either be kidnapped, or murdered by morning.

Another bullet hit the door, only, this time it made a dinging noise, like metal hitting metal. And with a hopeless heart, I realized whoever it was, was shooting off the lock. All possible escaped plans left me, and I clung to Fang and cried harder. Until I felt my phone that is.

It vibrated in my pocket, a rescue machine. I yanked it out an smiled at the glorious invention. With no hesitation I dialed 911 and hit call.

"What is your emergency?" Is all I bothered to hear.

"I-" I screamed as a bullet went right through my phone and narrowly missed my head. Fang fished through his pockets and pulled out his phone, which, just our luck, was dead. There was a slight knock on the door before it was kicked in.

I yelped and looked at our attacker. Only, I couldn't tell who it was. They wore a black ski mask, with a gray sweatshirt that had the hood pulled down low, and sweatpants with plain black sneakers. Black gloves hid the hands too.

A high-pitched laugh escaped her lips. Yes, it was a her. The laugh was a total give away. "You thought you could win, didn't you?" Once she spoke, I immediately recognized the voice. "You thought you could run off to another state and live happily ever after?" She paused and I could tell she was smirking, even if I couldn't see it.

"You thought wrong." She raised the gun and aimed it at my head. "Any last words?" She snarled.

"You have to kill me first!" Fang snapped, positioning himself in front of me. Terror leaked through into my bones, mostly because she re-angled the gun towards Fang's head.

"With pleasure." Her finger pulled the trigger.

"NNNOOOOOO!" I screamed, and then I blanked out too.
