Letting Him Stay
Chapter One
When you haven't invited your best friend to your house in three years you'd expect your parents to know that you weren't friends anymore. But for some reason my parents didn't know that so it wasn't a good experience for them to tell me Percy Jackson was staying with us for SIX WHOLE MONTHS! Let me start from the beginning…
I'd just arrived home from school and had gone straight upstairs to change my clothes and do my homework. I was whizzing through an easy maths sheet when my father yelled, "Annabeth can you come downstairs for a minute?"
I new something wasn't right straight away because my father never disturbed me when I was doing homework but anyway, I obeyed his order and ran down the stairs and into the kitchen.
He was sitting at the table with my stepmother, Susan, and indicated for me to take a seat. I sat down opposite them and raised my eyebrows, "What's up?"
"Well as you know Sally and Paul have just got married-"
I cut him off, "You mean Sally Jackson?" Wow! I haven't thought about them in a long time…
He nods, "So they are going on their honeymoon tomorrow for a week and as you already know Paul is an English teacher."
He paused so I asked, "What's Paul being an English teacher got anything to do with their honeymoon?"
"Well Paul has made a deal with an English teacher in London to switch places for a while and he wanted Sally to go with him and they didn't want Percy to stay home alone for so long and they didn't want to take him with them because he'd miss school," he answered. That's when I started getting suspicious.
"So?" I pressed.
"So… Susan and I agreed to let him stay here!" he grinned. My jaw dropped.
"You agreed to what?" I yelled.
"To let him stay with us for six months-" Susan explained.
"Whoa! Slow down," I said and rubbed my temples. My eyes widened, "FOR SIX MONTHS?"
"We thought you'd be happy," my father said, "You two being best friends and all."
"Dad, me and Percy are not friends! We haven't been for three years!" I snapped.
"What? Why? You never told us," Susan said.
"I didn't think I had to. He hasn't been here in years I thought you would've guessed," I said and leaned my head against the table.
I gasp as an idea popped into my mind, "Tell Sally that you changed your mind!"
"It's too late, Annabeth. They're leaving tomorrow," my father explained.
"AND YOU DECIDED TO TELL ME TODAY?" I yelled.
"We wanted to surprise you," Susan said.
"Oh you've surprised me alright," I replied, "Where's he going to sleep? There's no room in Bobby and Matthew's room and-" I stopped. Oh no…
My father opened his mouth to speak but I held my hand up to stop him. "Please tell me your not going to let him stay in my room?" I begged.
"Like you said there's no room in the boy's bedroom and your room has tons of space for him," my father replied.
"B-but," I stuttered, "You haven't let a boy my age in the house since I was thirteen and now your letting one stay in the same bedroom as me!"
"Well we know we can trust you," Susan said.
"What? He's going to sleep on the floor for the next six months?" I asked thinking of an excuse to make him stay somewhere else.
"No. Sally and Paul are bringing Percy's bed over with his clothes and stuff tomorrow," my father explained.
I opened and closed my mouth trying to think of another excuse. Nothing.
"I can't believe you agreed before you even asked me," I finally said and bolted up the stairs and slammed the bedroom door…
That event happened five hours ago and I haven't left my room since. I know I over-reacted a little. Okay, I over-reacted a lot, but they could've at least asked me! Percy and I go to the same school and now we have to sleep in the same bedroom. And for six months! I sigh and finish my homework, wanting to take my mind off today's events.
After that I have a shower, slip on my pyjamas and hop into bed. Tomorrow is a Saturday. Normally I would stay up reading all night but I'm hungry and I'm too stubborn to leave my bedroom, so I decided that if I sleep early I'd wake up early and I can eat on my own.
I turn off the lamp on my nightstand and close my eyes. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.
REVIEW AND TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK! SHOULD I CARRY ON OR NOT? (:
