This is just after Ellie's parents die and how Ellie helps Gavin and herself cope with it.

O.o

This couldn't be happening; my parents didn't just die, Homer was not here hours before explain what had happened to the police and Gavin was not on my bed, curled up in the recovery position crying. Gavin crying, now that was a day I thought I would never see.

I was sitting on mum's favourite chair, I hadn't moved since the police had left. Over and over again, the scene of the fight played in my head. Like a scratched CD the gunshots replayed in my mind and I couldn't help thinking, if I was there, could I have saved them?

A strangled sob took me by surprise. "Ellie."

It was Gavin calling for me. That was all it took for me to rise out of my chair and head towards my bedroom door.

Gavin lay there, looking so pitiful and sad, with tears making his face wet and shiny. He stretched out an arm, silently holding it towards me. I knew what he wanted and I complied. I walked over to the bed and laid down next to him, he curled up to me and I held him close. I could feel the sobs racking through his frame.

When I had cried, Mum used to sing me a song and hold me. Looked like I was making a tradition out of it.

"Come stop your crying

It will be all right

Just take my hand Hold it tight"

I took Gavin's shaking hand with both of mine and held it close to me. Gavin slowly looked up at me and before I could say anything, snuggled in closer to me. I took it as a sign to continue.

"I will protect you

from all around you

I will be here

Don't you cry"

I let go of his hand with one of mine and lifted his face up to me, I whipped away his tears which were still flowing fast.

"For one so small,

you seem so strong

My arms will hold you,

keep you safe and warm"

He gave me a shaky smile and I gave a weak one back. He was so brave. So strong.

"This bond between us

Can't be broken

I will be here

Don't you cry "

The tears seemed to slow down as he snuggled into me again.

"'Cause you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on

Now and forever more

You'll be in my heart

No matter what they say

You'll be here in my heart, always "

Gavin sniffed, the tears had stopped and he seemed to be getting sleepy. I knew how exhausted Gavin felt, after a big cry you just want to take a nap.

"Why can't they understand

the way we feel

They just don't trust

what they can't explain

I know we're different but,

deep inside us

We're not that different at all"

As I sung, I found this part of the song ironic. It was like the people on the other side of the border. They just can't understand us, so they don't trust us because they can't explain it.

"And you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on

Now and forever more

Don't listen to them

'Cause what do they know

We need each other,

to have, to hold

They'll see in time

I know"

I agreed with one part of this song, Gavin and I needed each other, especially after what had just happened. But I doubt that 'they' as we called them, would ever understand.

"When destiny calls you

You must be strong

I may not be with you

But you've got to hold on

They'll see in time

I know

We'll show them together

'Cause you'll be in my heart

Yes, you'll be in my heart

From this day on,

Now and forever more"

I could feel Gavin relaxing against me, his breathing becoming slow, deep. He was asleep and whispering the final part of the song I let myself too fall into the dark depth of sleep.

"Oh, you'll be in my heart

No matter what they say

You'll be in my heart, always

Always"

O.o

I do not own tomorrow when the war began or this song.

Sweet isn't it?
