Chapter 4: March 2nd
"IT'S FRIDAY, FRIDAY! Gotta get to school on FRIDAY!" I sang loudly, belting out every word as I skated on my way to school. Man, I hated that song, but it's so catchy! "Everybody's looking foward to Yellow's Birthday~ Partying, partyi - iiiiiiiiinnnngggg!" I fell off my skateboard by bumping into somebody. Ow, I should really stop singing when skating.
"Are you okay?" I jumped up to see who I bumped into. A girl was face down on the ground, wearing her dark blue hair in two - oh crap it's Crystal.
"Yea, yea. I'm fine." She stood and her back was to me. I thought of running before she turned around... but too late. She dusted herself off and turned to face me. "Gold!" Her eyebrows narrowed and light blue beams glared into my soul. Ooh, there goes those shivers again. I prepared myself for another lecture. "You really should watch where you're going! You could have hurt someone!"
"Tch, sorry Super Serious Gal." My eyes danced up and down, and landed on her right elbow. "Are you sure you're okay?" Her elbow had a gash, not huge, but still dangerous. Blood was visible.
Her gaze softened a bit as I looked her in the eyes again. She bit her lip in pain.
I kicked my skateboard up and grabbed it in my left arm. I grabbed her left arm with my right one. Turning around, I started walking back to my house.
"Gold, what are you doing?" She ran to keep up with my pace.
"You're hurt. I'm going to stop your bleeding and give you an bandage. Simple."
"No, it's okay! It'll stop eventua-"
"No, it'll get infected."
"But we'll be late!"
"I don't care, I'm late everyday. And we have a valid excuse!"
"Bu-"
"Uh-uh."
"Bu-"
"Nope."
"Bu-"
I sighed and dropped my skateboard. Turning to face Crys, I gripped her left hand tighter with my right. She used her right hand to try and pry loose, but I used my left to hold both her hands together under mine. Then I took a step closer, and you could see the nervousness in her eyes as clearly as you could hear the sound of her heart beating faster. We were so close that she had to tilt her head up all the way just to look me in the eyes.
"Now," I whispered. "Do you want me to help you, or not?"
"O-okay," she stuttered, half dazed. Yep, I have that effect on women. She hung her head low and kicked a rock. I felt her hands getting warmer, so I let go of her right hand and my left arm fell to my side.
Walking hand in hand, we went back to my house. Ethan was still asleep because his school didn't start until another hour or so, and my mom left for work already. We learned to do things on our own since she was out in the mornings. She worked the morning shift at the hospital.
"Close the door behind you," I pointed.
Crystal used her good arm and closed it gently.
"Now go sit down in my room, I'll be there in a sec. Don't tough anything."
"Okay..."
I put my pointer and middle fingers in front of my eyes and aimed them back at her.
I walked down the hall to the bathroom where I opened the cabinet. I took out the rubbing alcohol and some cotton balls.
Returning to my room, I saw Crys sitting on my bed with a piece of paper in her hand. I put the objects down on my dresser and slapped a hand to my forehead.
"What are you doing? I said don't touch anything!" I grumbled, exasperated.
"Sorry, I got curious," she chuckled. "So...," she turned the paper to face me. "What's this about not getting Ye-"
"Gimme that!" I grabbed for it, but she moved away. "C'mon Crys! Crystal~" I tripped on my rug while flailing my arms around. My arms flung in front of me on impulse and I closed my eyed tight. Falling on my bed, I tried to hold myself up and not crush Crys. She used her left hand to protect herself.
"Eep~!" She squeaked as I hovered over her, her nose only centimeters away from mine.
"You okay?" My eyebrows raised, and my arms couldn't hold me up much longer. Our noses touched. She shrank back.
"How many times do you have to ask me that today?" She rolled her eyes. "Yea, I'm good, now just get off me, please." I obliged. "So, um... I thought you weren't going to get Yellow a present." I sat down next to Crys who had the paper in her hands again.
I took the cotton balls in my hand and dabbed some rubbing alcohol on it. "Well, I decided to do something nice for her. She deserves it, after all. Lift your arm." She did, and I dabbed the cotton ball on her injury. She winced and clenched her fist. I did it again, but gently, this time.
"Yea," she twirled the paper around in her left hand. "But this is impossible!"
"Not really! Don't you think he already likes her?"
She pondered that for a moment. "Where'd you learn to do this?"
"This?" I motioned towards the cotton ball. "My mom's a nurse. I learned a few things from her. Plus, I picked some stuff up from when she would treat me whenever I fell off my skateboard." I shrugged as if it were no big deal. Pressing the cotton ball into her wound a few more times, the bleeding eventually stopped. I opened my top drawer and pulled out a bandage. "Here - all better." I put it on her elbow and kissed it. That's what my mom always did, and every treatment always felt complete.
Crys blushed. "Thanks," she softly whispered.
"Well, we'd better get going now!" We walked to the front door and picked up our bags. Closing the door behind us with the greatest of ease, we started to sprint to the bus stop. It's be quicker than walking now that we were late. I left my skateboard at home this time.
Since not everyone at school is coming to Yellow's birthday party, they decided to throw her one at school. She was one of the most well known Seniors and everyone's friend. The teachers allowed it since they all love her so much. Plus, it helps to be an upstanding student.
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday~ dear Yellow~
Happy Birthday to you
Everyone clapped and whistled. But the song's not over!
"How old are you now, how old a-" Crystal clamped her hand over my mouth and sweatdropped.
Yellow blew out the candles. It took about four times, though. And a little help from me.
"Thank you guys," Yellow held her hands to her heart. "Really... it really means a lot."
A large BOOM was heard from the back of the classroom where the door was.
"Aww! We missed it?" Red ran through the door, huffing, with his hands on his knees. Green and Blue came in a few seconds later, doing the same.
"You guys!" Yellow gasped. She ran over and hugged them all. "How - What - When did you finish your test? How was it?"
Blue placed her hands on her hips. "Green and I waited outside on campus for about twenty minutes waiting for Red." She laughed, nudging him.
Red smiled sheepishly and put his hand at the back of his head. "I didn't study! I may have been the smartest over here, but University is tough!"
Crystal's eyes glimmered with admiration. She loved hearing about this kind of stuff. "How was the test?"
Green rolled his eyes, "Easy."
Blue smirked. "I already memorized all the answers before the test." She gave a signature wink and chuckle.
Green smacked his forehead. "So that's how you finished before me. And now I know who stole Professor Erika's answer sheet," he grumbled.
Red chuckled. "Err... I had a lot on my mind during the test. I just wanted to get here as fast as possible, but it seems like I've made us miss the whole thing. And I probably failed..." He stepped forward and put his hand on Yellow's shoulder. "Sorry, Yellow."
She smiled genuinely and a pink tint appeared on her cheeks. "It's okay! Really. We still have tomorrow, and besides," she motioned towards the table with the cake. "We still have to cut the cake."
Man that cake was good! Wow, the teachers really love Yellow. I sat back in my seat and watched everyone socialize. Blue was teasing Green and poking her fork at him. She jabbed him again, making him flinch and glare at the girl. She stuck her tongue out and laughed devilishly at the spiky brunette.
"Tch," he crossed his arms and closed his eyes, clearly annoyed. "Obnoxious girl."
My ginger friend bore holes into the back of Green's head with that stare. Ouch. Green must've felt it, too, cuz he rubbed the back of his head and turned around to meet Silver. His eyebrows narrowed.
"Can I help you?" He muttered.
Silver 'humphed' and turned away, going to find Lyra.
"'Girl'?" Blue turned back to the earlier conversation. "What happened to 'woman'?"
"You're too immature to be a woman."
"Hey!"
I got bored of their conversation. They clearly like each other... Gosh, I should be a match maker! My attention turned to the far left corner where a short blonde girl was sitting next to a tall, jet-black haired boy.
Yellow and Red.
I scooted closer, but not too close that it was obvious. Well, it was obvious to Cyrs, cuz she waltzed right over to me.
"Gold, what are you doing?" She asked with that big mouth of hers. Clearly big enough to make that special couple turn around with wide eyes plastered on me.
I stood up and quickly waved at the two shocked teens. "Heh heh...," I grabbed Crys's arm, which seemed to have been doing better, and steered her away from them. "What are you doing? You're ruining everything!"
A vein popped out on Crys's forehead. "What are you talking about?" Mad was written on her face as she raised a mighty leg and kicked me in the shin.
"Owowowowowowow~! What'd you do that for?" She shrugged. "I was only eavesdropping on them..."
"Why?" She asked me, plain and simple.
"Why? WHY?" I grabbed both her shoulders and swung her back and forth. "In the name of love, that's why!" I yelled rather loud. Everyone in the room turned to look at me.
"Ohohoho~" I heard a laugh. "That's my boy! Go MangaQuest!" Blue waved a flag with the initials MQ on it. She then tossed it away and threw a thumbs up in the air along with a cheerful smile. Everyone sweatdropped and carried on with their regular conversation.
"MangaQuest?" I asked Crystal. She shrugged again and hummed an 'I don't know.' "Oh well."
We both turned towards the destined couple in the corner, watching them talk and smile.
"You really think you can do it in one day?"
"Anything's possible."
Crys started to walk away, but she turned around for one last comment. "Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow..."
I snorted. "Me either."
Hooray for Blue for breaking the fourth wall xD
Well, there's the longest chapter of this story thus far. Pathetic, right? Starran's first chapter of Amotodan has more words than this entire fic. Oh well, hope you enjoyed this chapter :) Remember to review! You'll make me one happy hat :3
