SURRENDER- THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED SO READ AGAIN!
Lena hadn't spoken since the ride back from the Exodus. She had been so paralyzed with shock and fear, that Lincoln had had to carry her onto the Magus, her arms wrapped so tightly around him that her knuckles were as white. By the time he had managed to haul her downstairs she had begun to shake. He gently deposited her on her bunk and made a movement to retrieve a blanket, but she clung onto him, refusing to let go. He didn't object, but sat down next to her. They sat in silence, neither of them knowing what to say. She held onto him for at least 10 minutes before she allowed him to wrap a woolen blanket around her trembling shoulders.
Lena clasped the blanket tightly around her small frame. She felt him take her hand and give it a gentle squeeze. But still neither said anything. She finally let out the sobs that threatened to consume her, the grief that she had only managed to conceal for only mere minutes. She sobbed into the pillow, flashes of her father telling her "I love you Peaches." Then incinerating in front of her very eyes. She felt his hand go from her hand to her back, rubbing small soothing circles, trying to calm her.
Ever since they were kids, they'd been more then close, Friends, partners in crime, the harmony in the others jungle (As Emmet had put it). The memories flashed through her head and she gave a brief small smile, when she recalled a certain day.
They had been about 8 years old; she and Lincoln had been playing all day running around the Magus playing tag. Lincoln had been holding
Marbeley while they'd been playing. They'd been having such a good time Lincoln didn't even realize that his bear was missing. At first they'd just assumed that Marbeley had decided to pay as well. But after searching the Magus deck to hull, Lincoln's beloved bear was still nowhere in sight.
Lena almost laughed when she remembered how hard he'd cried and how she'd hugged him sympathetically even though she was secretly in a mental giggle fit. They'd found Marbeley of course; Lincoln had left him in one of his past hiding spots.
Lena was abruptly jolted out of memory lane by the image of her father's last moments scalding her brain. Her sobs seemed to continue for hours, but Lincoln's hand stayed put, continually tracing comforting circles in her back.
Finally she managed to brace herself up into a sitting position. She stared into the eyes of the man who'd known her and been there her entire life.
He was really the only part of her childhood she had left. Him and this boat. He stared back, his hand going back to hers. Lena found herself go tense at his touch, but soon relaxed at his steady, supportive grip.
She bowed her head as the tears began their eternal flow. Lincoln pulled her into an embrace of pure comfort. She buried her face in his neck and wept. Lincoln held her firmly, occasionally whispering sweet soothing nothings into her ear. She went limp in his arms, allowing all tensions and withholdings fall away. Lincoln kissed her forehead softly then let his gaze wander to the porthole on the wall. The early Amazonian sun was just beginning to show on the horizon. He gently laid her down on the pillows,"Sleep" he said softly. She grabbed the front of his singed t-shirt and pulled him to her. "Don't leave me" she begged with evident desperation in her voice. Lincoln pulled away a bit but never taking his eyes from her. "Lena-' he said in a hesitant voice. Caution in his handsome features. "Please" Lena murmered, "please Lincoln, i can't be alone, not tonight." Of course he gave in to her pleas, how could he leave her like this? He lay down next to her and let her bury her head in his chest. "You will never be alone" he murmered into her hair. "Never." Lena smiled at this before sleep soon found her.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
I know i changed it a bit but i hope you'll be happy at the reason. I decided that i didn't like the way i did the oneshot. i felt like i had squeezed everything in to one thing, and that the story should go further then this. So i am going to work it into a multi-chapter fic. i'm so excited to start and hope that you are too! PLEASE REVIEW AND LEAVE FEEDBACK :)))))
Thanks and happy reading!
