"Do you want to go for breakfast? My treat" Tyler asked, when we woke up later. My stomach rumbled as it heard the word food. We haven't had anything to eat since last night.
"Sure" I answered.
We got dressed and headed to the café. I wasn't working today so I had the day to spend with Tyler. We sat in Tyler's normal booth, sitting opposite from each other.
"You know who I haven't met? Your Mom and Dad" Tyler looked up shocked. Maybe I pushed it too far? I quickly carried on.
"I mean, it's fine, you haven't met mine either. You know about Renee but you've only heard about Charlie"
"Okay. You want to hear about my parents? Sure. My Mom's a social worker and is currently married to a guy named Les. He's cool. A lot better than my father"
"And your dad?"
"A straight laced bastard who couldn't give a shit about his son and daughter. Apparently to him, I'm an ass hole who has no future or life and Caroline is just ignored by him"
To be honest, Tyler's dad sounded like an ass hole, not Tyler. I picked up the menu to try and make myself busy because of the awkward silence. Tyler looked up from his arms on the table.
"Sorry for the language" He apologized.
"It's fine. So, your Dad is a straight laced bastard, is he?" I asked, clearing my throat. Tyler laughed, throwing back his head.
"Hey, Tyler? Have you ever asked your father to be more involved with Caroline?"
"Yeah, I have. When she has these art shows to show off her work, sometimes he doesn't even turn up to them or he turns up late"
"Has Caroline ever spent time with her Dad?"
"They have before but it's just too awkward for them"
"Same as myself and Charlie" I muttered.
"Hmm?"
"It's the same with Charlie. I use to spend a few weeks with him during the year. It's pretty awkward for a thirteen year old to spend time with Dad when I've only seen him a few times a year"
"Was it really that bad?"
"Sort of. Just think. You have a daughter who's thirteen. The last time you saw her was a baby, she's going through all these changes and the only time you really speak with her is when you speak a bit during dinner"
"Sounds like you were along most of the time"
"Yeah, I was. I got use to it though. I mean, I went to school, came home and cooked for Charlie, spoke a bit him during dinner, cleaned up while he went and watched ESPN and then went upstairs to bed"
"So, that's why you came here for college?" Tyler guessed.
"Yeah. I was pretty much looking after Charlie so why didn't I just move somewhere I could learn to live independently. Renee tried to get me to go to college in Jacksonville but I didn't want to"
"Just to think. If you hadn't came here you wouldn't have met me"
"Oh, I would have, Tyler. If you're meant to be with that person then love will find a way. Shall we order now?" I asked quickly, when I saw the waitress come over.
I tried to ignore that I said love in my speech. I didn't know if I loved Tyler because I've never experienced love before. Loving someone and being in love with someone is very different.
After we had breakfast, we went back to the apartment. Tyler helped me, for once, with the cleaning. He was helping me strip the bed when the phone rang. I put down the blanket, walking over to the phone.
"Hello?"
"Is this Isabella Swan?" The voice on the other end asked.
"Yes. I'm Bella"
"Ah, Bella. It's Doctor Gerendy"
"Hey" I muttered.
I knew Doctor Gerendy. He was the local Doctor in Forks. Why was he calling me?
"I have some news about your father, Charlie"
"Is he okay?"
"I'm sorry to tell you about this but he's being shot. He was tending to a break in at Newton's Outfitter's. The bullet went into his lung so we took him into surgery and he is now in recovery"
"Thank you. Thank you for calling me. I'll be there as soon as I can"
"Bella? What's wrong?"
I turned round and saw Tyler standing in the doorway. I walked over to him and collapsed into his chest. I tried to not drown his t-shirt with tears but it was useless.
"Bella? What's the matter?"
"It's Charlie. He's been shot. I have to go to Forks"
"Okay. I'll come with you"
"No! You have to stay here for college"
"I'm coming, Bella."
