This story was first posted on NZGirl25, and was one of my first Shortland Street stories. Since its been untouched for so long and I wanted to continue, I decided to redo it. So, I hope you like it, and please review.
Tracey stirred in her sleep, a grimace obscuring the otherwise beautiful features of her face. Tracey's dreams were troubled. She kept picturing a rat, flowers, his face. A bottle of sleeping pills rested on the bedside cabinet, the cap lying haphazardly beside a crumpled piece of paper that seemed as if it had been smoothed and reread many times. A small framed photo was propped carelessly against a discarded pile of clothes and cds. The handsome man in the frame was smiling, a skateboard in his arms. Tracey stirred again and her eyes opened. She rolled over and saw the time on her alarm clock. 5:30 in the morning. She knew that she wasn't going to be able to get back to sleep, so she just stared at the ceiling, hoping that sleep would eventually overcome her.
Tracey got up a few hours later, having not slept at all since she woke up. She showered, took a caffeine pill, ate breakfast, did everything a normal working person would do in the morning. Once she was ready, she grabbed her handbag and headed to do her long shift at Shortland Street hospital, where she worked as an emergency nurse.
Tracey sat on the couch in the staff room, reading a magazine and drinking a coffee during her break. The magazine was some kind of fashion one that she had no interest in but was reading because she needed something to occupy he mind.
Tracey looked up to see Kip Denton, her ex of a week. She broke up with him a week ago because she felt suffocated.
"Hey Kip." She replied as Kip sat next to her.
"Trace, can we give things another go?" He asked hopefully just as Tracey's phone beeped. She opened it and read the message.
"I WILL GET YOU PIG"
Tracey slammed the phone shut, her breathing suddenly becoming faster.
"You okay?" Kip asked, concerned for her.
"Fine." Tracey snapped.
"It's Leo isn't it?" Kip guessed.
"What did he say to you?" Kip asked. Tracey wordlessly handed over her phone.
There were over 20 messages, all from different numbers, which read from I will get you to you will regret it to I will make you pay.
"This is harassment." Kip stated.
"You think I don't know that?" Tracey asked. "Kip, the texts are from different numbers so if I don't have solid proof that its Leo then they can't do anything."
"Get a new sim card, with a new number. He can't hurt you then." Kip suggested.
Tracey started to cry and didn't object when he pulled her in his arms.
She didn't complain.
Because she still had feelings for him too.
