Chapter Twenty Six
Dean moved in a few weeks after Christmas. It was a little weird at first but we got into the groove of things in no time. I continued my routine with work and Sketch while Dean got a job doing some construction work in town. Business was booming and we were both pretty busy working long days. Sketch was getting bigger and next thing I knew it was April. It was seven months since I killed Yellow Eyes and my nightmares were still happening. Dean would wake me up in the middle of the night and I wouldn't get back to sleep until I heard him snoring. I'm glad he was there to comfort me. Sometimes he would have nightmares too. Sometimes I heard him saying my name in his sleep.
Things were so normal, I loved it. And yet sometimes I couldn't stand it. Sometimes I just wanted to get into my car and go. Go someplace strange and unusual and sometimes I just needed a good jog around town. Dean didn't bother me at all. We only see each other at night and sometimes on the weekends if he has to work. The studio is closed on Sundays and I only work half days on Saturday. Sometimes we go to Sarah's or sometimes we just stay in. The girls liked to sleep over and Dean and I would play games and watch movies with them all night. I had never seen Dean with kids before and he's nothing but amazing with them. I still can't believe sometimes that I'm living with Dean Winchester, and working a normal job, and I get to see my sister whenever I want. So unreal.
I was driving home from work one night when Dean called me. He didn't usually call me at this time unless…
"Hello?" I said answering my phone. I was stuck some dumbass driving annoyingly slow down a main road.
"Hey Sam." Dean said. "When you going to be here?"
"As soon as the idiot in front of me turns off a cliff into hell." I said replied sarcastically. There was a moment of silence before he continued.
"I have to uh…go out of town tonight." I could tell he was choosing his words wisely.
"Okay, is it for work?" I asked.
"Yeah. It's a work thing. I'll probably be home late so don't wait up for me okay?" He sounded different. He sounded like he was lying.
"Sure." I said going along with it. "Just don't wake up Sketch."
"I won't. I'll see you tomorrow." We hung up and I had a gut feeling he was going on a hunt. This has happened a few times where he'd say he was going somewhere and come back a day later like everything was normal. Which it totally wasn't normal.
By the time I got home I had a headache and just wanted to take a hot shower and pass out but quickly remembered it was Friday night. The second Friday of every month was dinner at my place. The girls were probably halfway here. I quickly changed out of my work clothes and into jeans and a tee shirt. I was going through my cupboards when I heard a knock at the door. Sketch began barking. I opened the door to find one of Dean's workers standing there.
"Hey Sam." He said.
"Hey Ryan." I said back. I had only met him one other time at a party Dean got invited to by his boss. He didn't bring the guys around that often.
"Is Dean here?" he asked.
"No, he's out of town for the night. Did you try calling him?"
"Yeah but his phone is off. He left this at the job site." Ryan said handing me a book. It was a book on modern folklore. Specifically, my book on modern folklore that Bobby got me for Christmas. "I didn't think it was his, but someone told me they saw him reading it on lunch."
"Well actually," I said taking the book from him. "It's my book." Ryan gave me a strange look. "It was a gift from someone and I told Dean it was really good so he probably took my work for it and started reading it."
"That's cool. My wife is into astrology." He said. I smiled at him.
"Thanks for bringing the book by. I'll let him know it's here." I closed the door and saw Sketch give me a strange look. "My thoughts exactly." I said to him. He put his head down and walked away. I couldn't believe him. Now I had some sort of proof that he went a hunt without telling me. Maybe I would have liked to go. I flipped through the pages and found what he was looking for. The woman in white. "That son of a –." A knock on the door cut me off. I opened it to Sarah and the girls.
"Hey." Sarah said smiling. "Is everything okay?"
"Let's get a pizza tonight. I'm in no mood to cook." I said.
After we had pizza the girls went to play with Sketch and Sarah and I sat in the kitchen.
"Why wouldn't he tell you?" Sarah asked after I told her where Dean was.
"He probably thinks I would stop him or something. Which I wouldn't. I'd rather know where he is then just be disappearing and lying to me." I rubbed my eyes and looked around the kitchen.
"I still think you're doing well for yourself." She said.
"Thanks." I muttered. "So how is Cal?"
"I think I'm going to divorce him." She said. I didn't know what to say.
"Are you sure? I mean where would you go?" I asked.
"Don't you mean, where would he go? He's not here anymore. He missed Christmas and the girl's birthdays and New Years and a lot of other things that he should've been there for. he doesn't even call to tell me where he is anymore. I'm raising them all alone." She sighed. "I think he's been cheating on me. He don't care anymore."
"I'm sorry Sarah. When are you going to tell him?"
"I don't know. I'd like to tell him to his face when he's packing for his next trip. That way he can just pack everything." He laughed.
"That's awful." I laughed with her. Then we went quiet. The girls were giggling down the hallway across the living room. The clock was ticking against the wall. I kept wondering where Dean was and if he was okay.
"Maybe I'll try calling Dean." I said. "I'll be right back." I went into the bathroom and called his cell.
"This is Dean, I am not available to come to the phone –." I hung up. Ryan was right, he had it off. So I called his other cell phone. It rang like four times before he picked up. "Hello?" he asked into the phone.
"Dean, I was worried your cell phone was off." I was trying to act nonchalant.
"Yeah it died." He said. I heard his voice echo in the background.
"So how's work?" I asked.
"I'm on a break." He lied.
"Oh? I didn't know ghosts took breaks." I heard him sigh.
"I can explain." He began. "It was on the news and I knew what it was so I thought I could just come out here and kill it and before it hurt someone else. It's only for one night."
"Why didn't you tell me? You don't need to lie to me about it. When will you be back?"
"Probably late tonight. You're really okay with this?"
"We'll talk when you get back." I said. I walked out of the bathroom and find Sarah getting the girls ready to go.
"It's getting late." She said sympathetically. "Why don't you and Dean come over Sunday? We could take the girls to the park."
"Sure." I said goodbye to them and dropped on the couch. Sketch had a princess necklace draped around his ear. "Come here boy." He got and jumped on the couch with me. "The girls be trying to make you a girl huh?" I took the necklace and put it around my neck. I leaned back and closed my eyes.
I was standing in the hallway looking down at the door. It was slightly open with a light coming out of it. I started walking to it when I smelt fire. I ran in and saw the crib on fire and in the fire I saw yellow eyes.
I woke up sweating and my heart was pounding. I looked at the clock on the wall and saw it was almost four am. The lights were still on and Sketch was passed out on top of me. I heard the showering going down the hall. It was probably Dean. I got Sketch up and turned the lights off and got ready for bed. I was changing into pajamas when Dean walked into the bedroom.
"Woah, sorry." He said. I turned around and saw him standing there in his towel dripping wet.
"It's okay." I said. I turned back around and took my shirt and pants off. I was about to take my bra off when I felt Dean come up behind me. I turned around and he was only inches away from me.
"I'm really sorry I lied to you." He said.
"Thanks. You know if you ever want to do a case, just talk to me about it. At least that way I know you're okay." I said.
"I will from now on." He was looking me in the eye and then started kissing me.
I kissed him back and put my hands around his neck. He stepped closer and put his arms around my back pulling me close. He kissed down my neck and stopped along my collar bones. I took a deep breath and ran my hands down his chest. I looked up at him and he instantly grabbed my face and started kissing me again. He roamed his hands all over my body and I wrapped my hands in his hair. He stopped at my waist and ran his fingers inside my jeans, tugging on them. I stopped for a second and unbuttoned my jeans. He immediately pulled them down and once they were off he picked me up and I wrapped my legs around him. He still had his towel around his waist. He laid me down on the bed and I put my legs around him. He leaned over me and his necklace was dangling down in front of me. I pulled on it and he kissed me softly. He kissed me all the way down my neck and chest and stopped at my belly button. I started to giggle uncontrollably.
"What?" he asked confused.
"Nothing, it just tickles." I giggled. I sat up and reached back to snap my bra off.
"Sam, we don't have to." He said softly.
"I know. I want to." I said boldly. He took his towel off and gently pulled my underwear off. My heart began pounding in my chest. I was nervous and excited and happy all at once. Dean and I had been putting this off for a while but now I really felt sure about it. I wanted Dean more than ever. He put his body on top of mine and I fit perfectly against him. That was the moment I realized I was really in love with Dean Winchester.
