Sabrina surveyed the disaster area that had once been her bedroom. Her sheets and curtains were torn, her pillowcases shredded, and her lamp overturned. Books and magazines littered her floor. The only item that remained untouched was the magic book. Sabrina edged in carefully, unsure of who to blame for the mess this time, her index fingers raised at the ready.
She spotted the black, furry lump on her bed. He lay on his back, all four paws waving in the air, his green eyes glazed over, and his tongue lolling out. "SALEM!" Sabrina shrieked, dropping her hands. "You found the catnip again!" She had every right to be furious, but her anger seeped out as she gazed down into his cute and furry face.
She grinned and shook her head. "I guess there's nothing for it. We'll have to replace everything." She shrugged. "We needed to redecorate any way." She stroked his black fur, and he purred deeply. She started zapping things with her other hand. "But, seriously," she told Salem, "you've got to share some of that stuff next time!"
His tail wagged. "That stuff's the best magic ever!" She burst into hysterical laughter. "Buy us some more."
