The truth about the truth: it hurts, so we lie – Lying to avoid disapproval
What did she expect him to say? That he was the hero of the hour? That when his friend really needed him he had come through for them? That he had resisted the alluring temptation of the darkness? That he was still the same person she had always known?
He turned his gaze away from the admiring green orbs before him.
She didn't know a thing about anything beyond these islands – where it was always sunny and everyone always greeted each other with a smile. She didn't know that sometimes a world is filled with darkness instead of the sun's rays. She didn't know that sometimes there are no smiling faces, just the faces of the monsters inside of every person. She didn't know that sometimes a person must become someone they absolutely hate in order to survive and save lives.
A lighthearted laughter broke the white-haired teen from his stupor.
"You're avoiding my question Riku!" the blonde haired girl scolded. "Tell me, were the other worlds everything you dreamed they would be? Did you meet exciting new people and make new friends? Did you save Sora's butt like you always do?"
If only she knew…
He turned his attention to the blonde, green-eyed girl once more; offering her what he hoped was a cool smile, even mustering up a cocky laugh – just like the old times. "What do you think, Monjin? You know Kairi and Sora would be lost without me!"
If only that that were the truth…
A large, smile spread across the girl's lips as she took his words in.
And yet, he would pretend that it was, because he could not handle anything but pride and admiration to shine behind her eyes when she looked his way.
