Title: Beyond Their Time

Feedback: I thrive on it! :)

A/N: I've been reading HP/DM fics for a while now, but I finally
hit upon a good idea for one of my own. Please give me C&C, but flames will be
ignored and trashed. This diverges when Harry is measured for his school robes.
One thing, Draco is slightly OOC b/c my reasoning is that he actually can be...
friendly...if his parents or adults are really around. Please note, this is a
slash fic that will contain mild slash between minors. Offend you? Don't read.

Disclaimer: Me? Own characters? Hahahaha. Very funny.

In front of Gringotts Bank, in a place called Diagon Alley, a half-giant with
untamed looks stood looking slightly green and trying to speak intelligently to
the small slip of a boy next to him. "Harry, do yeh mind if I stop by the Leaky
Cauldron while you're getting measured for your robes? I hate them Gringotts
carts." The boy, also know as Harry James Potter, turned surprisingly verdant
eyes up and quickly replied, feeling sorry for his new friend.

"No problem, Hagrid. If you're not back, may I look at the owls in the Owlery?
The letter said I could bring a pet."

"Awww...Harry... Well, I s'ppose it wouldn't hurt. Go get yer uniform now." He
replied as he shooed the hesitant boy into the shop and took off at a trot to
find something to calm his jangled nerves.

Harry stepped into Madame Malkin's feeling a little apprehensive, but not really
scared. He had grown up either being ignored or ridiculed, so a little cold
shoulder wouldn't bother him too much. Thus, he was pleasantly surprised when
the Madame turned out to be a small, cheerful witch who ushered him in back,
took his measurements and bustled off to find some fabric, leaving him on top
of a stool and next to another wizard. He was only slightly taller than Harry
with the palest hair he had ever seen. But the most stunning feature was when
the boy turned steel-gray eyes in his direction.

"Hello," he said, somewhat aloofly, "Hogwarts, too?"

Harry hesitated a moment and gave an affirmative nod.

"Is that so? I'm Draco Malfoy, by the way. And you are?" Draco's delicate eyebrow
rose up in a mix of curiosity and impatience.

"Harry...Harry Potter."

There was a moment where the other boy looked at him for a moment in a type of
stunned daze. "Really? Well..." Draco seemed to fumble for some words before
getting his bearings back and holding out a fine-boned hand. For the first time
in Harry's life, he had met a man who brought to mind the words delicate and
fey. He quickly grasped Draco's hand.

"A pleasure. I haven't really met many wizards yet...Do they all go to Hogwarts
for schooling?" Harry asked, genuinely interested in this creature before him.
Draco's hand was smooth and pleasantly warm before he dropped it and answered.

"No. They are two other large schools of wizarding and a few smaller ones
scattered around the world. Of course, all are closed off to any muggle's prying
eyes. But...who were you raised by if it wasn't a wizard or witch?"

"My aunt and uncle who are both...muggles." There was a slight hesitancy using
the word muggle, but it was quickly lost when Draco stared at him in open
astonishment.

"You were raised by muggles? What was it like? How do they get by without magic?
What kind of housing do they live in? Where did you go to school if it wasn't
a primary school(1)?" Draco kept firing off questions at the laughing boy
next to him.

"Slow down!" He said, choking on a few chuckles. "Do you want to go to the Owlery
with me when we're done? I need an owl, and I can answer your questions there."
Harry was nervous. This was the first person his age that he was trying to become
friends with. He was scared Draco would turn him down, and the other boy must
have seen it, for he settled down somewhat and his expression became slightly
distant. Draco figured the amount of time he'd have before his parents were done
in Knockturn Alley and a smirk appeared when he realized he had another hour
before they would pick him up to finish shopping and then deliver him to the
Hogwarts Express.

"Alright, I think I'd like that." Both boys were cut off by the arrival of the
Madame and the two piles of robes she carried.

After boxing them up and Harry and Draco paying for them, they were shooed out
of the shop by plump little fingers. They were headed down to the Owlery when
Draco stopped and pointed to a broomstick in the window of a Quidditch shop.
"Bloody hell, what I'd give to have a Nimbus 2000 at Hogwarts," he breathed.
"I wish first years could be on the house Quidditch teams...Lousy professors
don't want us near the field at tryout time. I heard they give us four times
more homework than usual."

Of course, Harry was confused at the mention of the house teams. He turned
his emerald eyes towards his new friend and asked the question that changed
the future of Quidditch at Hogwarts. "What's Quidditch?" Draco drew in a breath
for a snort and stopped when he saw how completely bewildered Harry looked.
As they continued walking, Draco began to explain, "You see, there's four
balls and three hoops..."

-----

An hour later, Harry stood in front of the Owlery with a beautiful snowy owl
tucked in a cage under his arm. His face was slightly downcast when Hagrid
walked up to him, slightly more cheerful after having a couple pints of the usual
running around in his blood.

"Well 'Arry, I see you got yerself a good choice. Don't like cats meself, make
a persun sneeze. Well, on to get yer wand at Ollivander's. Ain't no better!" He
hummed cheerfully to himself as he pushed the boy towards the shop with peeling
gold lettering over the door: Olivanders:Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C.

Entering the shop, Harry felt the press of dusty air and the electric tingle of
magic against his skin. Hagrid sat down right as an old man with eyes like pale
moons softly greeted Harry, "Ah, yes. I knew I'd be seeing you soon. Harry Potter.
I still remember your parents coming in for their first wands. Now, what's your
wand arm?" Harry obediently raised his right arm and had a wand shoved into it.
"Ebony and unicorn hair, springy." When Harry hesitated he smiled and said, "Well,
go on and give it a wave." When nothing happened, Mr. Ollivander snatched it out
of his hand and paused on his way to get another. "I wonder..." He murmured as
he retreated to the back and picked up a slender yew wand. He placed it in Harry's
hands and his illuminated eyes narrowed when silver sparks shot out the tip.
"Curious..."

"Sir, what's curious?" Harry asked, a little frightened of the strange and brooding
man in front of him.

"It is curious that you are destined for this one, when its brother gave you
that scar." Mr. Ollivander reached out a finger and barely touched Harry's forehead;
a flash of green light bringing a light sheen of sweat under Harry's clothes.
"Curious indeed also that there is silver...Silver is the coin of betrayal and love.
The purity of soul...It seems, Mister Potter, that you have a destined one wandering
around this world. Few are so lucky...I believe many great things will come from you
when you grow into your magic...Many indeed."

Harry shivered and quickly paid the seven Galleons for his wand, Mr. Ollivander
watching with enigmatic eyes the whole time.

------

Harry had just stowed his trunk and owl cage onto the train when he heard a familiar
drawl behind him. "Well, Potter, made it to the train did we?"

Turning with a smile, Harry was met by a cold and distant person with an adult on
either side. The man had a sharp nose and the same eyes as his son, but there was
something in them that screamed a warning in Harry's mind. The woman was no better.
Her body was that of a muggle super-model with baby-pale hair that hung to her waist.
She could have been stunning if you skipped her face, Harry thought. Her eyes were
the hardest shade of blue Harry could remember seeing, with lips that were pressed
in a scowl and a small nose seemingly naturally stuck up. Looking at their son though,
Harry saw the hint of fear in his expressive eyes and mentally apologized to Draco.

"Well, Malfoy. I can say the same to you. I certainly hope you remembered to pick
up an owl while you were shopping. After all, you need something good to redeem the
fact you still lack a decent broom." [Well, well, was that a hint of approval I saw
in his father's eyes?] He wondered. Draco seemed to fume and turn to his parents.

"I'll be fine on the train. Crabbe and Goyle will be here soon. Good day father,
mother." Draco used the same cold tone on his parents that he had used on Harry. Mr.
Malfoy nodded and replied, "Don't dissapoint me, son," while his mother said naught.
When they left, Draco turned to Harry and spoke in a long-suffering voice.

"Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. One of the strongest married pairs in the wizarding world
when they actually tolerate each others presence!"

"Are you serious? Who's the strongest?"

"Well, supposedly it was Salazar and his other half. But the books aren't too clear
who the other was. No one yet has matched their power. Dumbledore could have been, but
his wife was killed the day after their marriage and they never had a chance to...well
...seal their powers together."

"Seal?"

Draco began to laugh, "Never mind," moving to the stairs of one of the carts while
Harry followed him, a puzzled look still on his face.

------

Settling into a compartment, Draco and Harry quickly changed into their school robes
and relaxed, idly chatting about the wizarding world until a flushed boy with a mop
of red hair burst into the compartment and shoved the door shut, leaning against it
and breathing heavily. Draco sneered and said in a drawling tone, "Well, well, well...
a Weasley...What nipped your knickers in a twist?" Harry shot a look to Draco and
relaxed when he saw the hint of a teasing smile on the edge of his face. The boy turned
around and grimaced, not hearing the humor under the malice.

"Malfoy...If you must know, I just gave some of my bother's Ton-tongue candy to two
bloody pricks in the other compartment. But what's it to you?"

"You-" But Draco was cut off by Harry speaking.

"What's a Ton-tongue candy?"

Ron flushed a little from the warm verdant eyes resting on him and said the first
thing that came to mind, "Who are you?"

"Oh, I'm Harry Potter," Harry replied, smiling.

"R-ron Weasley."

"And we all know I'm Draco Malfoy." Draco sulked, a little annoyed at the attention
Ron was giving *his* friend. [Whoa, where did that come from? *My* friend? Well, I
guess it's okay to be a little possessive. After all, he's the first one I've ever
had...]

"Yeah, a stuck up prick. Everyone know's that."

"You bloody shirt-lifter!" Draco snarled as he leapt towards Ron. He missed the mark,
though, when Harry grabbed Draco's robes and caused all three of them to fall in a
heap on the floor. Draco was about to say something when the moment was broken by a
bushy brown head poking her face in their compartment.

"Have any of you seen- I hope you're not fighting, you'll get in trouble before we even
get to Hogwarts," the girl said, a little bossily as she sat herself down on one of the
cushions. All three were taken aback and clambered quickly to their feet, one flushed
from where his hands had been, the other from anger at the other. "By the way, I'm
Hermione Granger. And...you all are?" She sniffed, looking at their rumpled appearances.

"Draco Malfoy."

"Ron Weasley."

"Harry Potter."

"*The* Harry Potter? Do you have the...scar?" She sat forward, eyes sparkling.
Harry pinked and moved his bangs a little, showing her the lightning bolt etched in
a faded red on his forehead. "I read about you, you know, in Great Wizarding
Events of the 20th Century, The Rise and Fall of the Dark Arts, and Modern Magical
History." She smiled at his stuttering for a second, then frowned as she noticed the
state of his glasses. Hermione pulled out her wand and pointed it to Harry's glasses
asking, "Do you mind?" Harry didn't know what she was talking about but nodded his
head. "Oculus totalis reparo!" There was a small ommph after Hermione said the spell,
then Harry's glasses were good as new, causing him to take them off and stare in wonder
before thanking Hermione.

"Thanks!"

Hermione looked a little flustered, but before she could reply, two large lugs burst
into the already full compartment and loomed menacingly over Weasley. "No one plays a
joke on Vincent Crabbe or Gregory Goyle!" The other boy with him nodded and pulled out
a short little wand, causing Hermione to start laughing. He turned around and bit out,
"What's so funny, mudblood bitch?"

Hermione's expression crumpled a little before turning to stone as she replied, "Just
wondering...You know what they say about a wizard and his wand size..." This caused the
boys to start laughing and Crabbe and Goyle to stare stupidly. Finally, Draco got up and
his face melted back into the icy stillness he had perfected from living in the Malfoy
household.

"Go away Crabbe, Goyle. My father might have given you orders, but I do believe they don't
include pissing me off," Draco hissed. Both of the boys fidgeted and murmured in the
affirmative, leaving as quickly as they could. Hermione glanced at him and smiled. Draco
stared at her a second before his face relaxed. "Nice one, Granger."

"Yeah, well, no one expects me to have a sense of humor since I'm always stuck in my books."
She shrugged, "But that doesn't stop me from playing a good joke on someone now and then.
It just means mine are a little more elaborate." All of a sudden, the three looked at
each other and spoke at the same time.

"You like-" They all broke off and stared, Harry was the first one to break the silence.
"Hey, Herm, does Hogwarts have the same history of pranksters that muggle schools do?"

Harry addressed the question to Hermione, but it was Ron who answered. "I've heard my
brother's talking about stuff when they think mum isn't around, and they were talking
about a map they had found that detailed all of Hogwarts and the people in it. It took
them about a month to figure out the the key word to activate it. It was called the
Marauders Map and made by Prongs, Padfoot, Moony, and Wormtail. I don't know who they
are, but it sounds like a previous generation of tricksters." Ron looked excited just
thinking of the famous jokes they must have played on the other Houses. Even Harry had
glazed eyes. Draco's eyes were drawn to the way his cheeks flushed a little and his
lopsided grin. He liked looking at Harry. What he didn't like was Ron staring at Harry
too. Thinking about the two of them going off and getting in trouble *together* struck
a nerve. He needed to prevent that from happening.

He was the first to stick his hand out, palm down. "I propose a little...alliance.
No matter what house we get sorted into, I believe we will be the next ones to terrorize
the poor unsuspecting staff of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizarding." Harry put
his hand on top of Draco's quickly, ignoring the niggling thought of how nice it would
be to just twine their fingers together and how warm his hand was.

"To the next generation of Hogwarts' pranksters."

"Hah! To the next *gods* of tricksters, since I have the key to our superiority." Ron
smirked as he pulled out a scrap of parchement and tapped it, saying, "I solemnly swear
I'm up to no good," and showed the others the detailing of Hogwarts. He shoved it back
into his robe's pocket and slapped his hand on top of the others.

Hermione looked at the boys and sighed. "You know we could probably get expelled if they
catch some of those pranks?" The guys nodded. She just looked at the joined hands for a
moment before giving an exasperated huff. "Well, I guess someone needs to make sure you
don't get into too much trouble." She placed her hand on top of Ron's.

They all looked at their newfound group and cracked up, pulling their hands away. They
didn't stop laughing till a dumpy little witch stopped by pushing a cart filled with sweets,
making a small fortune as both Draco and Harry pitched in for the candy. The rest of the
ride was filled with sweets, jokes, planning, and something brand new for two of the members;

Laughter.

So how did everyone like chapter 1? It was really just introducing the fact that the
four of them are going to be the next Moony, Prongs, Padfoot, and Wormtail of Hogwarts.

(1)I kind of guessed at what kind of schooling someone from a wizarding family would go
through before Hogwarts. I figure it would be like a junior high in the US or primary
school that ages 5-11 go to in Britain.
