He didn't know what to make of her when he first saw her in the castle. She was this meek pink-haired girl in a ridiculously puffy sky-blue dress, cautiously aiming a sword at the two Imperial guards closing in on her.

He could tell she wasn't keen on the idea of fighting anymore than the guards were. Her stance was correct in form, but meek and withdrawn.

Part of Yuri wanted to ignore her because he'd had enough nobility for the day, but at the same time, it wasn't like he could just leave her. He dwelt on the thought as he listened absently to their conversation.

When the name "Flynn" escaped her lips, he'd already started moving before he realized it. He always knew his friendship with Flynn would always be his downfall. But maybe— just maybe saving Estelle was the best thing that happened to him.

He'd started off thinking "Estellise" was just extra baggage he didn't ask for and really didn't need.

But things changed.

He looks upon her now, walking slowly behind him next to Karol.

She's kind and soft and sweet and adorable and beautiful. She's so many things wrapped up into one. He can't help thinking what a wonder she is. She's so knowledgeable about the world, but at the same time, she's just a naive little girl.

She's a living paradox.

After the first couple of days he spends with her, he thinks he's figured her out.

But her miraculous healing of the Halure Tree is an early warning to him that he'll fall in love with her without ever truly understanding why.

Something starts there, when she heals the tree, letting it bloom to its full potential. Something begins and Yuri isn't sure what it is.

But maybe it'll be good for him.

Estelle smiled radiantly when the townspeople thanked her and Yuri couldn't help the smile on his own lips.

She's the beginning.
