Casey and Derek's Epic Detour (on hiatus until future notice)
Author:
TheWriterCeeCee PM
Based slightly off of the book Amy and Roger's Epic Detour. Casey and Derek go on a road trip on their way to college. Over the course of the trip they may discover some surprising things about each other and about themselves. Very cliche but hopefully well written cliche. Dasey.

Casey POV

I was pissed off. Seriously pissed off.
Wanna know why I was pissed off?
Well, it might have a little something to do with the fact that Derek and I were currently on our way to Las Vegas.
Las. Vegas.
Las-freaking-Vegas.
We'd been getting on so well lately, so I didn't really question when he turned up the music enough that it drowned out the GPS. Seriously, I didn't even give it a second thought, because after such a nice day together yesterday I figured I wouldn't break the peace by nagging him.
I'm such an idiot. How could I not see that this was all just a trick?
Anyway, I'd closed my eyes to rest for a little while. After falling asleep to Derek blasting his music so many times back home, I found it easy shut my lids and let the music carry me off to dreamland. Only this was such a stupid idea.
Because, guess where we were when I opened my eyes?
We were in flipping Montana! We should've been in North Dakota by then, not Montana.
Of course, I didn't immediately realize we were in Montana. I'd never been to either North Dakota or Montana, and I imagine they look really similar anyway. It was only when my sleep-filled eyes drifted over to the GPS and read the fact that our destination was Las Vegas that I realized we were off schedule. Way off schedule.
And on our way to Las Vegas.
Las. Vegas.
Las-freaking-Vegas!
What was he even planning to do in Vegas. We were only eighteen - there was literally nothing we could do. At least, nothing we had to go to Vegas to do. We didn't even have that much money left; well, I did but I knew Derek didn't and I sure as hell wasn't loaning any to him. He'd probably just spend it on strippers. If he even managed to get into a strip-club.
I'd seen his fake ID. It might fool the dumbasses at our local bar but I doubted the experienced people of Las Vegas would buy something that poorly made.
Still, we had to get there first. We'd be going through Montana, Idaho, Utah and most of Nevada to get there and I'm telling you now that mom and George had not given us enough gas money to get us there.
Did this count as kidnap? I was being taken somewhere against my will, that must count as kidnap.
"This doesn't count as kidnap, Casey," Derek said, his eyes still on the road.
Right, since when could he read my mind?
"Please don't do this Derek," I said again. I hated saying please to Derek but sometimes I just had no other option. "I thought we were getting along!"
I knew I sounded like a cross between a petulant two year old and a whiny girlfriend but it wasn't my fault he was dragging me halfway across the USA when we were supposed to be driving to college.
"We were, and we still would be if you just lightened up a little bit," he replied, not even sparing me a glance.
Sure, remember what happened the last time I lightened up? I wanted to say, but didn't because he'd genuinely been really nice when I'd gone to that party and made a fool of myself - I didn't want to throw such kindness back in his face.
"Derek, we don't have enough money to take a trip to Vegas. Where will we even stay?" I said but knew that however I tried to convince him, he'd just ignore me. He was Derek and he believed that whatever sticky situation he got into, someone would always be there to bail him out - whether that person be me, mom or George.
Well, I wasn't bailing him out this time. I'd go with him to Vegas, but I was not helping him get back. No way. He couldn't make me!
Could he?
"Don't worry about a place to stay, Case. I got it covered," he said smugly, as if he'd won some victory of some kind.
"Oh, I'm glad to see you're so on top of things," I replied dryly, the sarcasm heavy in my tone.
"I don't appreciate the sarcasm, Casey."
"And I don't appreciate you driving us to Las Vegas, where you undoubtedly plan to commit a whole number of illegalities."
We were at another stalemate. I wasn't giving in and neither was Derek, but unfortunately this was Derek's car.
See mom, this is what happens when you don't let me buy a car. I thought to myself. Not that my mom was ever going to hear of this impromptu trip to Vegas - she'd tell George and then George would kill Derek and then Derek would come back as a ghost and he'd kill me. And then we be stuck forever as ghosts, arguing with each other for all eternity.
Bleak future right there.
So my mom would be hearing nothing of this, even though I'd loved to get Derek in trouble.
As if once again reading my mind, Derek said. "We're not telling our parents about this, okay?"
I turned my head around to look at him, taking in his genuinely worried expression, and bobbed my head in a curt nod.
"Glad to see we finally agree on something," I muttered as Derek drove us further down the I-94 E.

Author's Note:
So, I'm back.
Miss me?
I'm so sorry I left for so long but I just had such a bad case of writer's block.
There's not much Dasey in this chapter. There won't much Dasey in the next chapter either. But in the next, next chapter...soooooo much Dasey!
I shouldn't tease you guys like that ;P
But seriously, thank you to everyone who offered their support. You guys are awesome and amazing I love you all a ridiculous amount.
Special thanks to; Robmaddoc1 , nolovelydreamers , cytheria-03 , ab123 and ait92 for the encouragement.
Oh, and to ait92 - I L-O-V-E your stylish use of 'quid pro quo'. I've never seen anyone be able to so casually fit it into a sentence. Except Scar from the Lion King.
Love you guys!
