It took all my willpower to walk away.
Looking at Vicki's tearstained face, I wanted nothing more than to fold her into my arms. But I stopped myself. She had made her choice. And she hadn't chosen me.
I had to get away. I made myself be blind and deaf to her face, her voice.
"Henry…" My name was filled with such despair that I could feel my eyes filling with tears. But I did not cry. I did not stop. I did not look back.
Because I knew if I did, I wouldn't be able to leave. She had made her choice. And she hadn't chosen me.
