Chapter One

Courtney's POV

It's been 22 hours since we were disqualified from nationals and everyone thought I would be heartbroken, but I wasn't. Yeah, it sucked to lose, especially to Tami and Royce, but being disqualified made it even worse. For some reason though, I wasn't very upset.

Now, it's 6 pm and my best friend, Janice, and I are out getting some food. Nikko planned a little party up on his roof for the rest of Spectacular! And our families as a celebration, that was before we were disqualified. He offered to cancel the party because he thought I would be too upset to celebrate and said it wouldn't be a spectacular party if the most spectacular person weren't there. When he said that I got the craziest butterflies in my stomach, I couldn't help it! But I told him I was ok and that even though we didn't win we were still the best, and that was worth celebrating.

As Janice gets up from the table to use the restroom I hear a familiar voice entering the café we are sitting in, high pitched and annoying, a voice I knew too well. Tami. Oh shi-

"Hey Courtney." Tami the snake says to me snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Hello Tami, what are you doing here?"

"Oh, you know, just getting food because we won and get discounts everywhere. I mean, if you're going to be a winner, you might as well take advantage of the perks! Right?"

"You may have won a competition, but we got a recording contract. You're right, take advantage of the perks and use a 30% off coupon on a dozen lattes. I'll just use a little of my signing bonus and go shopping and stuff, mmmkay?" And with that she rolled her eyes and walked out, almost spilling the lattes all over herself.

"Whoa, Courtney! That was freaking awesome!" I hear Janice squeal as she runs up and hugs me.

"Oh, yeah, haha, I guess" I say as I smooth out my hair and walk out the door.

We get about ten feet down the street and Janice practically jumps out of her shoes and says, "Oh my God, I forgot, tell me about you and Nikko! What happened last night? Why aren't you talking about it? Courtney what's going on between you guys?" I just shrug my shoulders and check my iphone, nothing. "Come on Court, tell me! We're best friends; I have the right to know!"

"Okay, okay, I'll tell you! So after everyone walked out from backstage and getting onto the bus home, I went to follow everyone but he grabbed my hand and pulled me back, and well, I kissed him."

"You kissed him? Oh my God, why didn't you tell me? We're on the way to change then go to his house! Are you guys dating, are you going to kiss him again, will he kiss you, what's going t-"

"Janice, I don't know! I haven't mentioned it because….well never mind."

"Come on, tell me Court! You've had other boyfriends! Even though you don't do sports and do show choir instead, you have guys falling at your fe-"

"Ok! I'm nervous! You happy? I'm nervous to see him, there's something different about him and this is the first guy who gives me butterflies just by looking at him!"

"…..Oh. My. God. You got it bad for him!''

"I know and I'm never nervous around guys!" I say as we approach my house.

We go up to my room and change into some really cute clothes. I put on some dark skinny jeans, dark brown ankle boots with a 2 inch heel, and a dark brown cardigan. I straiten my hair, redo my makeup, and put on some body mist from Bath&Body. Janice changes into some dark skinny jeans as well, black flats, and a purple sweater with a black cami underneath. She puts her hair up, put on more makeup, and uses my body mist. Needless to say, we looked HOT. We walk out the door and I hear my mom say she'll be there in an hour and something about coming home at midnight or spend the night at someone's house.

We walk up to Nikko's door and hit the buzzer. As we stand there and wait to be buzzed in, Nikko comes to the door himself and opens it, giving Janice a hug and telling her she can just go up to the roof because almost everyone else is there already. Janice gives me a mischievous look and walks past Nikko and heads upstairs. He looks at me and scratches his head and gives me a hug. At first it was kind of awkward because we didn't know where our relationship stood but then a second later it felt almost perfect to be there, with him, in his arms, and no one to disturb us. Just as we let go of each other, ever so slightly, he looks down at me and I can feel him leaning in to kiss me. I just started to lean in when we hear someone yell to us.
