Being Jocasta ~ Chapter 10: First Words
So, I'm gonna repeat this on my Bella story too. When I said that I was 'svalleylove' on a website, it's Last FM. This site decided to remove the words because they were on opposite sides of a full stop.
A year later
I'm looking after Jessica all by myself today. Well, her little friend Zelda and her mother are also here. It's company. We're working on getting Jess to say her first words. She can already walk. Zelda's running all over the place, screaming for food every five minutes.
'Say... daddy!'
'Da...da...daaaaaa.' babbled Jessica, looking upset because she can't say it just yet.
'Almost! How about... cat?'
'C-c-ca!'
'So close!'
'MOMMY! FOOD!' screamed Zelda to her mother, Amanda. She must be in her late thirties.
'But you've just had food!' sighed Amanda.
'ME WANT FOOD! WAAAAA!'
I had to block my ears from the piercing scream. Sorry, but Zelda's literally a demon child. I hope she outgrows these screaming fits. The noise made Jessica start crying with confusion. I held her close to calm her down.
'Shhhh... Jess, it's alright! There's nothing to cry about, okay?' I soothed, rubbing her back. She soon reduced herself to whimpers.
'Good girl. I think it's nap time for you.' I whispered.
'I'll be right back, okay?' I called out to Amanda, who was now chasing Zelda around the house, trying to get her to keep still.
I lifted Jess into her cot and kissed her on the forehead. Her reaction reminded me so much of Simis.
'Love you so much, princess. See you soon.' I waved before creeping out of the room and turning the light off.
As soon as I arrived back downstairs, Zelda was finally settling down. Seeing as she's a few months older, she has less frequent naps.
'You know what, sometimes I wonder if this one's actually my offspring!' joked Amanda, sighing with exhaustion.
'Haha. How old is your Iliana now?'
Iliana is Zelda's older sister.
'Oh, she's sixteen, seventeen next month.'
'Wow! Time sure flies, huh?'
That was a polite way of saying how huge the age gap was between the two Mae sisters.
'I know! She has a boyfriend. You know, that Dustin Langerak boy?'
'Oh yes, I've seen him around. So, they're a couple now?'
'Since about two months ago, yes.'
A few hours later
With Amanda and Zelda finally gone, I decided to wake Jess up from her nap. Creeping into her room though, I saw that she was already awake.
'Oh, hello! You're awake!'
Jess replied with a giggle. I love when she laughs, it's adorable.
I heard Simis entering the house, rather loudly.
'Where's my two favourite girls at?' he called out.
'Up here!' I replied, laughing. Within a few moments, he was up the stairs and in the room with us.
'Hey, hun.' he greeted me, receiving a kiss in return.
'And hows my little girl today?'
'She's just woken up from a nap. Still no luck trying to get her to speak.'
'Here, let me try. She'll do it for daddy. Say... dada!'
Instead of hearing 'dada' in response, all he got was drool all down his shirt. I laughed.
'Oh, is that how you wanna play?' teased Simis. He grabbed one of Jessica's blankets and tossed it at me, putting our daughter back into her cot during that time.
'Oh, this is war!'
I picked up the blanket and also a stray cushion and threw it at Simis, hitting him straight in the face.
'Victory is mine!' I triumphed.
'Again! Again!'
I slowly turned around to see Jess looking at us with the sweetest face ever.
'Mama! Dada! Again!'
She said her first words!
'Yay, Jess!' cheered Simis. I started clapping.
'Dada silly.'
I burst out laughing, so much that tears were rolling down my face.
This chapter may seem a little rushed. It only took like half an hour to write. I'm writing a Bella chapter after this, because I can't do anything story-related until Friday night. But I hate writing on Fridays, so nothing until Saturday.
