Not another one Carl: Kolchak: The Night Stalker. As always the characters and background for this show are the properties of its creators. A Simple Tale: Tony Vincenzo has gone a whole week without one strange story from Carl Kolchak. Would the string last?
Anthony Vincenzo, chief editor of the Chicago tribune was having for him a very good week. Not that the news was any better in the world. Strikes, wars, murders, and of course the typical late season collapse of his beloved Chicago Cubs. But for once everything was well in his world.
The main reason was that Carl Kolchak had not annoyed his with an oddball story. There had been no weird tales of people being chased around town by headless bikers with a sword. Nor had there been stories of men turning into wolves at the full of the moon. There had not even been one vampire mentioned. So for Vincenzo. This had been a week that was well spent.
A knock at the door. Emily Cowles came in. "Yes, Miss Emily." Vincenzo said with a smile "What can I do for you?"
Emily said "I need your final approval before I send my column to the printers."
"Yes of course." Vincenzo said as he read over it quickly. "Send it along, Miss Emily it looks fine."
"Thank you, sir" she said as she walked out the door.
Vincenzo was looking at the clock. 4:55 it said. Five more minutes and the week is done and no screwball stories. He closed his eyes. To get out of here with my blood pressure almost normal. He glanced to the news room.
Kolchak was not even in there. "Now would be a good time to go." Vincenzo grabbed his coat and started for the elevator. "Good night everybody." He said "See you on Monday."
Vincenzo made it to the elevator and pushed the down button. The elevator had almost made to the top floor, when suddenly. "Hey Vincenzo!" a voice called "I got something you need to see."
Anthony Vincenzo just shook his head with resignation as he turned around to see Carl Kolchak racing toward him with a stack of papers in his hand.
"You are not going to believe this' he beamed "The cops found a bloater down by the lake and do know how they claim he died?"
Vincenzo and Kolchak walked back to the press room, talking a mile a minute.
It almost was a good week for Anthony Vincenzo.
