Weeks passed and everything returned to normal except Maddy. She felt as though she wasn't really living just existing because she had too. Because that was the only thing she could do. Everything reminded her of Rhydian; her room, school, Shannon and Tom. She even dreaded the full moon now a days knowing it was just another one without him.

Her alarm rang and she quickly slammed it off. She had been up for hours; Maddy found she couldn't sleep that much anymore. Her parents would normally find her curled up on her window ledge looking out into the forest. They knew instantly who her thoughts were about.

Rolling out of her bed Maddy felt an all too familiar twist in her stomach. She ran to the bathroom and threw up the contents of her stomach. This had become a common occurrence for the last week. At first Maddy thought it was a bug but now she wasn't so sure. Luckily her parents hadn't heard her yet.

School had become a good distraction but even that hurt. Maddy would walk into her form class and expect to see the familiar blond hair in the seat next to her. Instead she was greeted by the reassuring smiles of Shannon and Tom. They were in science in the middle of an experiment when Maddy felt the next wave of sickness hit her. It wasn't the first time she had been sick at school but it was the first time she had to rush out of the classroom. Shannon found her in the toilets a few minutes later washing her mouth with water.

"Maddy, you okay?" Shannon asked worriedly.

"Yeah, fine, just this stupid bug" she replied taking a sip of water

"Maddy…. I don't think this is a bug" Shannon said after hesitating for a moment.

"What are you on about Shan? Of course it's a bug" She insisted

"If it was a bug you would have gotten over it ages ago. I thought you said wolves heal faster when there is a full moon. There was one a few days ago and you're still sick Maddy. Besides if it is a bug why are you the only one affected."

"What are you getting at?"

"Maddy, did you and Rhydian…..I mean is there a chance…You're pregnant?" Shannon stumbled over her words. Maddy froze, she hadn't even thought about it. She sank down to the floor and let a tear slip down her cheek at the memories while she tried frantically to work the maths out in her head.

"It's not possible, we…. only ever once. The night he….left" Maddy whispered, ignoring the pain in her chest as she spoke about Rhydian.

"That's all it takes Maddy. When was your last period?" Shannon spoke softly sitting down beside her friend.

"About 6 weeks ago I think"

"We have to get you a test Maddy, that why you will know and can stop worrying about it." Shannon sighed and pulled her friend closer for a hug letting her cry into her shoulder.

After school Maddy ran to the chemist in the next village as she didn't want anyone to recognise her. Now she sat on the side of the bath waiting to look at the test. Her parents were both at work. Right now she would give anything to talk to Rhydian. To tell him she was scared and alone and to have him hold her and tell her everything would be okay. But Rhydian wasn't here and Maddy was on her own now. The timer next to her alerted Maddy to look at the result. Taking a deep breath she grabbed the stick and turned it over.

A pink plus sign.

Pregnant. Maddy sank to the floor with her head in her hands. Her parents would freak out. She was freaking out! Their sixteen year old daughter, their 'cub' was pregnant by a guy who they didn't approve of and wasn't even around. She was so dead. How could she do this without Rhydian? Maddy stared at the stick hoping she had read it wrong but the plus sign was still there. Slowly Maddy placed her hand on her still flat stomach.

"Hi little cub" She whispered as she held back the tears. She wished Rhydian was here, what would he say? Would he have been happy? Not that it mattered because he wasn't there and he wasn't coming back. Maddy thought about the baby she was carrying; her baby; their baby. Would it be a girl with Rhydian's blond hair and her dark eyes or a boy with brown hair and those bright eyes that made her melt?

No matter what, one thing Maddy was certain of was that she already loved her baby; half her, half Rhydian. It was like a part of him would always be with her. She ran to her room and grabbed her rucksack. Inside she shoved clothes, pictures of her family and friends, money and all the other essentials. She didn't want her parents to freak out and if one thing was guaranteed; her mum would definitely hit the roof. She quickly scribbled a note to her parents saying she needed some space but she would be back soon, then she was out the door. Maddy planned to call Shannon and Tom when she was sorted and explain everything to them. She was breaking away from the pack which meant her parents wouldn't be able to smell her anymore therefore they would be unable to track her. Maddy had just reached the edge of the forest when it started to rain.

"It's just us now" She whispered before picking up speed. And with that she ran.
