Where we left off, Astrid thinks Hiccup killed Bones, even though he is Bones. He didn't get a chance to tell her the truth.
Chapter 6
"Astrid!"
She was already halfway up the rope.
"Astrid, listen!"
She was hopping through the window.
For a split second, Astrid's figure covered the moon glow. She turned back to find the dragon, but Hiccup was gone. "H-Hiccup?"
Bones jumped up, still not able to fly. He tried to catch a patch of moonlight, and when he did, Astrid gasped. "You're...Bones?"
"I need to tell you something!"
"Is it that you're secretly a dragon?"
"Um..."
"Oh! You tried to tell me! Ugh! I feel so stupid!" she pounded at her head. "C'mon, let's get you outta here."
Hiccup, still being naked, wrapped himself with the scaly dragon skin. It was truly the most disgusting thing he had ever done. He shimmied up the rope, careful not to drop the only thing covering his bottom half. Astrid laughed at him the whole way up.
Soon they were to the top of the rope. Skulls was waiting as a guard on the other side of the wall. Hiccup jumped down, landing on his back. He groaned with pain as Astrid jumped and Skulls caught her. He rested her gently on the ground and she helped Hiccup up. He blushed as he adjusted the dragon skin.
"Hiccup, your dad is worried sick about you. We should probably get back to your cottage."
"I won't be there for very long," he said glumly. "In the morning I'll be a dragon again. What fun."
"Well, you are still my dragon." Hiccup looked up hopefully. "I can't let you get killed."
Looking at Hiccup's smile, she said, "It's the law now. If I let you die it's dragon abuse." The smile died and he sat on the ground. Looking at him, she realized he didn't know it was a joke. "I was just kidding, dude."
"I know."
"So, why are you so upset?"
"This is how I'm going to be forever. I'm just a dragon now."
"You're more than a dragon, Hiccup."
"Then what else am I? A scaly green creature who can't even fly, or blow a puff of smoke?"
"Hiccup-"
"I've gotta go. Hopefully I'll catch my dad and tell him I'm going away."
"Where will you go?"
"Somewhere far away, where nobody can have the satisfaction of watching me die."
