Chapter 1
"Tamzin!"
"I'm coming". The girl answered in her frail voice ridden with icy dread as she descended down the stairs to meet her father.
As the girl clapped eyes on her father, she could instantly see he was drunk- nothing unusual.
"Where's Harry" his words were slurred.
"He's at a play group" Tamzin said quietly.
"A fuckin what? Who do you bloody think you are sending him to fuckin play groups?" he pointed his half empty bottle at the girl, before taking another swig and almost falling over.
"Why would you care? You don't give a toss about Harry! I'm more like his mother than his sister" she snapped at her drunken father.
"Don't talk to me like that, you bloody bitch!" he took the bottle in one hand and brought it down on the young girls head with such a force that she fell to the ground,"I'm your father, and don't you bloody forget that" he stood over the girls petite frame that lay limp on the floor.
Tamzin could only watch her father's feet as they stumbled across the hallway, and finally out of the door.
Tamzin sat up gently, clutching her head with her shaking hand; she pulled it away and looked at the Scarlett red blood that ran down her wrist. This was not the first injury she has sustained by her father, she was like his personal punchbag and had numerous bruises and scars covering her small 18 year old body.
Tamzin pulled herself up and hobbled towards the telephone, being careful not to step on the broken glass that was scattered all down the hallway. She dialled the number and waited as it rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Amy"
"Tam, what can I do for you?"
"I was err...wondering if you could get Harry from play group whilst I pack our stuff"
"Pack? Why are you packing?"
"He hit me again...I can't stay here anymore" her voice was shaky and frail as she desperately tried to hold back the tears.
"Calm down, Tam. Where are you planning on going?"
"I don't know, anywhere away that man"
"You'll stay with me then...but you'll have to come to India with us"
"India? When?"
"Well, you know my father is one of The Beatles road managers? He's going to India with them and he said I could come! I'm sure he won't mind if you and Harry come"
"He will..." Tamzin sighed.
"He won't when he knows why you're staying with us"
"No! You mustn't tell him about my father!"
"Well, he's going to want to know why your living with us"
"I'll think of something...So can you pick him up?"
"Yeah, but you'll have to pack and get over here quickly, we leave in a few hours"
"A few hours?...That's sooner than I thought"
"Look, Tam, life throws you sometimes, but you've got to think and make the right decisions. Besides you'll get to meet The Beatles" Amy squealed with excitement. Tamzin was happy about it, but she had more important things to think about right now, like getting packed before her father came home and killed her.
"Ok, I'll be there as soon as I can" she put the telephone down and stepped over the glass, running up the stairs.
Tamzin pulled out two bags and threw whatever clothes of hers and her brothers she could find.
Once packed, the young girl gathered her bags and ran from her house, not even bothering to lock the door. She would never miss that house or a single memory she left within the rotten walls.
Tamzin arrived at Amy's house, greeted by Harry; the toddler smiled contently upon seeing his older sister and held out his little arms to be picked up. Tamzin obliged and held the smiling toddler in her arms, so glad that the innocent child knew nothing of their fathers abusiveness.
"Tam, go have a wash, you've still got a little...". The girl wiped her fingers across her face and sighed upon seeing the familiar Scarlett liquid that stained her skin. She handed the smiling child to her friend and proceeded into the house to wash off the blood.
"Oh, Hello, Tamzin" the girl span around to see her friends father smiling at her.
"H..hello" she managed to spit out, as she tried to rub the last of the blood off.
"Amy tells me you and young Harry are accompanying us on our trip to India" he walked over to the stairs and picked up a large suitcase.
"Errr..yes...just as long as its not too much trouble"
"No, no, it's fine! We'd be glad of your company. I left your father a message to say you're coming with us as he was out when I phoned"
"Oh...thank you" she forced a smile, but inside the dread began to mount up as she feared her father would follow them as soon as he picked up the message.
Once her pale face had been cleared of all the blood, Tamzin proceeded to get in the car with Amy and Harry; she held the toddler on her lap, bouncing him on her knee and kissing his thick mop of hair.
"You're like his mother, you know?" Amy smiled at the impeccable bond between the girl and her infant brother.
"Well, he hasn't exactly got a mother anymore" Tamzin sniffed and held the boy tighter.
"What will you do about him?"
"I'll bring him up, you can't expect me to abandon my 2 year old brother. I'll get a job, and we'll manage" the young girl sighed and pulled her jacket collar towards her neck, as it began to slip and revealed a purple bruise on her shoulder.
"Right, shall we be off?" Mick (Amy's father) jumped into the drivers seat of the car.
"Yes! Now come on or we'll miss our flight" Amy rolled her blue eyes and signalled her father to get going.
This was it for Tamzin, she was finally getting away from her father-maybe things would start to look up for the young girl.
What a horrible father Tamzin has! :O The Beatles will be introduced in the next chapter :)
