Today I would become a woman, or at least that is what was said. In a few hours I would be 18 and so would my brother. My parents did our birthday celebrations like countdowns, the day before was the big party wich everyone was invited to and then at midnight the celebration became better, we would open our gifts and even make a little speech if we wished to. It was boring, I mean, most of the guests I did not know and I only knew that they had enough money to buy a country but what party would you expect to attend the birthday of the children of the best actress and writer? Yes, my mother and father.

I did not mind, they had always been nice to me and had treated my brother and I as equals but I didnt feel like I belonged here, I didnt feel it. I enjoyed the company of people from my hometown like Margaret, Migdalia and even Tolousse. Here I was, in my room, staring at the mirror, trying to see me but I couldnt really see me. All I could see was a 17 year old girl, black long hair, purple eyes, skin as white as milk. Was this me? I looked at my dress, mom made it, a purple dress long but tight in the breast area wich pushed them up. The dress was made in a very soft shinny material, I dont know because I've never been interested that much in clothes, I focus on my writting. I had purple gloves long and of the same material as the dress. My hair was up in a french twist.

I wanted to wear my golden star necklace but mother told me not to, she made me wear another golden necklace with an amethyst shaped heart. I had my ring on but she never complained about it or told me to take it off, ever I believe. She even bought me a small crown, not of royalty but just a crown but it made me seem like a princess. I didn't want to go down, I wanted to stay in my room and write. I was like my father. Suddenly I heard a knock in the door.

"Who is it?"I asked.

"It's me"said Gabriel. My brother.

"Come in"I said.

He came in. My brother was quite handsome but at least he looked like my parents... I looked like neither of them, my father said it may have been from a great great grandmother. Im not sure. But I know it's nothing to worry about. My brother had my father's hair and skin but he had my mother's eyes. He was fairly tall at least, like mother. He was wearing a suit, black and a very nice one but that hat. I hate hats, I always have I believe, I dont know why. I walked toward him and took it off and threw it away.

"Why did you do that?"said Gabriel.

"You look awful with hats"I said.

"I won't argue with you on that"he said.

He held up his arm for me.

"Do we have to?"I asked.

"You don't plan on staying here all day, do you?"he asked.

"I only wish to do so but I cannot"I said as I took his arm and started walking down the hall.

You see, I wanted to be a writer but my mother said I had an actress qualities but my brother wanted to be an actor and at least he could choose but I on the other hand did have a choice but would be judged if I took it. We were at the top of the stairs now, all eyes were on us. There were women who had enough jewels to drown in a pond. We started walking down the stairs. I saw our mother, wearing the same kind of dress I had but red, the same gloves but red and also the same jewlery but red. My mother hadn't been a victim to old age, she still had her beauty, her crimson hair, her blue eyes, her skin as white and soft as clouds and her red lips.

My father hadn't changed either, he was exactly like my brother, an exact replica except that my brother had blue eyes and he had emerald eyes. The room to the right was like a ballroom and the room to the left was the dinning room, where everyone ate. At the back of the stairs was the stage room or at least that is what mother called it, I remember my father making little stories for me and my brother to play. Finally we were off the stairs and I kissed my parents. I saw Tolousse, Margaret and Migdalia coming toward us and I hugged them all.

"It's good to see that you could come"I said.

"Well I can't imagine a party without me in it"said Margaret.

"I can remember it like it was yesterday that your parents brought you both to town"said Migdalia.

"How about you Tolousse? how do you feel?"I asked.

He was so little but adorable and funny, don't forget funny. He and Margaret were together, well it took them some time to actually admit their affection but they did.

"I feel, splendid"he said.

I smiled and suddenly I felt someone looking at me. I looked up to see a man. Strange man yet handsome. He wore a cloak, a black cloak and a suit, no hat and gloves. Short gloves. He had black, black long hair but not too long just long enough to play with and his eyes... purple eyes... I don't know why but I felt like I was looking at myself but there was something diferent, he had an emotionless face.

"Gabriel, who is that?"I asked.

Gabriel looked where I was directing my eyes, I was expecting his answer but he just gave me a strange look.

"Who's who?"Gabriel asked.

I look back where the man was but he wasn't there anymore.

"He was there. He sort of... I know it's going to sound silly but he looked like me, Gabriel"I said.

"Like you? looked like you?"asked Gabriel smiling.

"It's not a joke, he looked like me, I'm serious, he had my eyes"I said.

"Christine, anyone can have your eyes. I mean, yes they are rare but they're not exactly the only one's in the world"said Gabriel.

"Maybe you're right..."I said.

"Well, go to the ballroom, I can assure you any man here may be dying to dance with you"said Gabriel.

"Yes, and I have to enjoy myself before they make me dance with you"I said with a smile.

"Well, it's tradition. Besides, I'm not a bad dancer"said Gabriel.

I started walking toward the ballroom and I turned around to look at Gabriel.

"I never said you were"I said smiling as I kept on to the ballroom, walking backwards and I bumped against someone. I turned around to see who it was and I couldnt say a word. It was him.

He raised his hand toward me. "May I have this dance?"he asked.

He said it as if he knew I was going to say yes, though I didn't say yes, I just put my hand in his. I felt strange as he held my hand. It was just ballroom dancing but it seemed strange. We were at the center of the ballroom now and he put his hand around me and took my hand into his other hand as I put my hand on his shoulder. He seemed strange, this all seemed strange. I felt afraid but at the same time like if I couldn't move, like if he had me under some kind of spell. A spell I didn't want to wake up of.
