Alice in the Underground

Hullo, you there, just have a seat.
There's someone here I'd like ya to meet.
She's young and naïve, but she's been around,
This is Alice, who went Underground.

She tells the story of a funny place,
Where Eaglets and Dodo's had a jolly Caucus Race.
Animals talked and cats smiled, not smirked,
Truthfully her dreams seemed quite berserk.

She says she saw a White Rabbit pass by,
But he sounds suspiciously like another guy.
Snowy white feathers, tinged golden like rings.
Could this be a clever Goblin King?

She followed him down a twisting hole,
Burrowing and creeping like a tiny mole,
When suddenly she found, herself falling down a hatch.
Do you think she was, in an oubliette perhaps?

When she reached ground, she found herself stalled,
By a long row of doors in a great hall.
The doors were all locked, with no key in sight.
'Knock and the door will open' might have worked out alright.

But Alice chose to taste, something quite unpleasant,
Do you think it may have been Jareth's little 'present'?
The potion still had its powers, although no ballroom came,
For Alice was after that, never really quite the same.

She says that she grew bigger, then Humongous ever was,
Then she did what every scared little girl does,
But weirder still, she claimed to have nearly drown in her own tears,
That she slipped into the BoES is exactly what I fears.

And it wasn't long until, she again spotted the hare,
He headed for his castle and she followed him there,
Not that I blame her, why with nothing to do,
I sure as hell would follow Jareth too.

But Jareth didn't care for this, he declared it wasn't right,
Why as large as she had gotten, she'd smash every goblin in sight.
Besides that, she still had a Labyrinth to complete.
So, he shrank her down and sent her off, which was really rather neat.

She came upon a strange Caterpillar with a hookah in his mouth,
He gave her some distorted advice then headed on his way south,
Though Alice insists that he turned a butterfly and flew away,
I am sure she met the 'Old Man' to this very day.

The next place she found, had a queer Duchess inside.
Could it have been Agnes, who had something to hide?
Though, since there was singing, and some weird dancing too,
It may have been Firey's to whom Alice drew.

The next stop on her journey, met a cranky old hatter,
It wouldn't surprise me a bit to find Hoggle behind that clatter,
Though Didymus was there, they did not allow Alice to stay,
For they were already expecting Mr. Worm for tea that day.

The final stop in her travels was a chance to exercise croquet,
But the lichen was ill-tempered, because it could not play.
It grew cross and told the court, it wanted Alice beheaded.
And after all the excitement she had, this was something Alice dreaded.

But the crafty White Rabbit wasn't fooled, he knew what would make them halt,
So I suspect what happened next was really all his fault.
Though Alice claims not to know just how again she grew,
I think Jareth was saving her from death, don't you?

So does this tale have a moral, well, you'd better believe it does.
It simply goes to prove that a dream isn't always what you thought it was.
Even though Alice bid good-bye to her dream, expecting it to lie and rest well,
Someday she may see that flash of white again, with Jareth, you never can tell.
