The soft sound of my door opening and closing jolted me awake. I looked around expecting to see someone, but no one was there. Then I noticed

a letter on my desk.

I turned on my reading light and grabbed the letter. Eddie grunted but didn't wake up.

Dear Fabian,

I'm sorry. For everything. By the time you will read this, I will have gone. Please do not try to find me. I don't expect you to understand. Just know

that you must try and forget me. It is best. You will not see me again. I'm sorry. I love you.

I read it over several times in disbelief. I slammed the letter down, grabbed my coat and ran out of my room. There was still a chance Nina was

close.

I ran outside. The lawn was empty.

"NINA!" I screamed.

I was met with complete silence.

I sprinted across the lawn and into the woods.

"NINA!" I yelled into the silence as I crashed through the branches.

A deafening roar sounded from behind me. I turned around. Flames flew above the treetops. Thick, black smoke filled the sky and crept through

the trees.

My eyes burned. I couldn't breathe. I hit the forest floor then everything went black.
