My feet walk on even though I don't know where I am going. My hands are held together in front of me with two metal handcuffs, even though I have done nothing wrong. All I can see is the cloth in front of my eyes and I hear my footsteps, along with a few others, bouncing off the walls as I walk down what I guessed was a hallway.
"Um, where am I going?" I asked, my childish voice ringing with innocence.
"Silence brat! It is not any business of yours where we're going," a guy in front of me said. I hear a metal clicking, must have been him adjusting a gun, if he had one.
"Well, technically it is my business since I am going there too," I said. Smart remarks like that always got me a slapping on my cheek, and not a light one either. This time was not an exception.
"I said silence!" the man repeated. I kept silent the rest of the way. It felt like forever until we finally stopped walking. The man behind me pushed me forward then told me to stay still. He put something metallic in my hands and walked away, his footsteps echoing the entire time. Soon I heard a metal door being slammed shut, then a lock turning shut. Something like a conveyor belt was moving.
"Okay number 10, you may remove your blindfold now and take off the handcuffs," an amplified male's voice said, its sound echoing across the room. I brought my hands up and did as he said, taking off the cloth that was making me temporarily blind. When I could see again, I looked around and saw that I was in a metal cage. I gulped. Somehow, I knew what was going to happen. I looked down to see a key in my hands, along with a small machine that the scientists here were currently testing. On us. Us children and tests dummies that is. This machine was supposed to allow you to breath underwater. The scientists had tried several times to get it right. Thanks to them screwing up a few times, I lost several friends. Now it was my turn. I felt an uneasiness in my stomach as I took the key and unlock the handcuffs. They wanted to be sure that we couldn't escape while be transported, or harm ourselves to the point where they would get rid of us. I placed the water-breathing machine in my mouth and they started the process. My cage was lowered into the water. As the cage got lower, I saw grey triangles floating straight up in the water. I didn't realize what they actually were until the cage was completely submerged. I didn't have time to process what they were. One of them attacked the cage and I screamed, accidentally letting go of the thing that let me breath. I looked at the thing that was attacking me, its jaws opening wide to eat me whole and alive.
"No!" I screamed, sitting up in my bed, sweat dripping from my face. I looked around to see that I was in my room. My calm, non sharky, early morning room. I breathed a sigh of relief, closing my eyes and letting my hands fall onto my lap, one on top of the other.
"It was just a dream," I muttered. I opened my eyes halfway and stared down at my hands. "But why did it seem so real?" I heard a knock at my door that almost made me scream again. However, I didn't. "Who-who's there?"
"It's me, Ashley. You okay?" Ashley asked through the door. I sighed again.
"I must have screamed louder than I thought," I muttered. "Yeah, I'm fine. You can come in." The door opened to reveal Ashley in one of her school uniforms: red undershirt, black blazer with red rims along the edges, a red mini skirt with black edges, black knee high socks, and black shoes. She had the school's emblem on her blazer: Shima's Dance Academy. Her dark blonde hair went with the theme of her uniform.
"You sure? I heard a scream a minute ago," she said. I nodded.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Ashley looked at my clock and raised an eyebrow as she looked at me.
"You do realize what time it is, right?" she asked. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 5:30 in the morning. I was going to be late for my first class if I didn't get going.
"Crap!" I muttered, throwing my blankets off of me and heading towards my closet, looking for my school uniform and not seeing it anywhere. I turned to Ashley who was staring at me strangely.
"Where's my school uniform?" I asked. She blinked twice.
"You don't have one any more, remember? You graduated from Koryou High last year. Don't you remember?" Ashley said. I turned around, looked at her, and face palmed. Ashley chuckled. "You did forget, didn't you?" I crossed my arms and turned away from her.
"So what if I did?" I said. Then I remembered something and turned back to her. "Wait, you said I was going to be late for something. What was I going to be late for?" Ashley shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't know. All I said was if you realized what the time was," she said. I sighed.
"Ashley! You got me excited for nothing?" she asked. She waved her hand and walked out of her room.
"Whatever, just hurry up! Allie's already awake and training with the Masters. We all need breakfast before my ride picks me up for school," Ashley said, walking down the hallway. I sighed again.
"Alright! Just wait for me!" I said, taking out a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I went to the table near my bed, pulled out a drawer, and took out something that seemed very important to me, although I don't remember why. I put it in my back pocket, making sure it was turned off, and caught up with Ashley who was already almost at the stairs. However, she stopped and started to cough into her elbow. She didn't stop for a while. I put my hand on her shoulder.
"Ashley? Are you okay?" I asked. Her coughing stopped for about 10 seconds. In those ten seconds, her hands grabbed my shoulder and arm, and she flung me over her shoulder. I landed with a thud on the wooden floor and I wound up staring at the ceiling. I blinked twice, not really registering what just happened. Ashley let go of me and I slowly stood up, staring at her shocked face. No words came from either of us. Footsteps were heard coming up the stairs and soon Allie appeared at the top of them.
"I heard a thud, what's going on?" she asked. Her long, tied back auburn hair settled on her shoulder. Today she was wearing her typical training outfit: a light purple tank top with a black light jacket over it, black sweatpants, and purple shoes. The black pants and black jacket were mandatory in order for her to train at the dojo that we all lived in. The dojo had about 3 main buildings: 2 were where the people slept, and the other was the training building. Allie, Ashley, and I lived in the building where the disciples slept. However, I am the only one out the three of us who is not really a disciple. I more take care of the housework things like cooking and cleaning. However, I am not too good at cooking so sometimes Allie or Ashley has to help me put out a fire or cook something else when dinner is burnt.
"Nothing happened, Allie," Ashley said, waving off the discussion.
"But I'm sure I heard a thud," Allie said.
"Haley tripped over her own feet again," Ashley simply said. I felt a sweat drop form on the back of my head. Allie shook her head and looked at me.
"Um, no," I said, putting a hand on my hip and my pointer finger up. "She flipped me when I touched her shoulder."
"You should know not to touch my shoulder," was all Ashley responded with. She turned her back on me and was about to walk towards the stairs. I pulled out the thing in my back pocket and pushed it into Ashley's side. She screamed as a bolt of electricity went through her and she fell down, twitching. I held up my Taser, it now off, and blew onto it like the cowboys in the old west would do with their guns.
"Haley!" Allie said.
"What? She started it!" I said, putting my Taser away. Ashley stopped twitching and stood up, glaring at me with a look that could kill.
"You little shit! Why did you have to Taser me?" Ashley yelled. She ran at me but Allie stopped her by grabbing her arms and holding her back.
"Calm down Ash!" Allie yelled.
"Why should I? She Tasered me!" Ashley yelled. I backed away from the raging Ashley.
"You deserved it!" I said.
"What? How on Earth could I have deserved being Tasered?" she yelled. "Let go of me Al! I'm gonna kill her!"
"No way! It's because you'll kill her that I won't let go of you!" Allie yelled. Suddenly loud, rapid footsteps were heard from outside. Ashley stopped struggling and we all listened.
"What could that be?" I muttered. I walked to a window and saw something frightening. One of their Masters was running here very fast. Before I knew it, they entered the building, ran up the steps, and I heard screaming behind me. By the time I could turn around, Allie and Ashley disappeared and their screams were heard in the distance.
