Dang these chapters are getting short. Lol sorry, the next chapter is long, so short chapters won't be a usual trend. And lol, all state auditions were today, and I'm 95% sure that I failed it (sightreading was the worst). well, thanks for reading, and have a great day!

Chapter 4

Olivia smiles lightly, a menacing determination swirling in her dark green eyes. I glance occasionally at her while watching Benjamin.

"Hey Benjamin," She says, her sweet smile growing into a mischievous smirk," Why don't you go with me to get some water for the freshmen from inside."

The completely unaware senior happily agrees," Sure Olivia! I'll be right back Eden!" Olivia skips away with Benjamin, obviously happy that she managed to successfully distract Benjamin.

"Okay guys," I say, looking at the faces of the rising mellophones. The girl's brown hair falls from her ponytail, and she quickly fixes it.

"I'm going to help teach you how to march," I explain, smiling. I glance at the door leading into the band room, Benjamin and Olivia just entered.

"So I guess we'll learn how to mark time first," I say, returning my focus to the two in front of me.

"So first you lift your left foot and place it back down on beat one. Then you pick up your right foot and put it down on two. Then you lift your left heel on three, put it back down, and lift your right heel on four," I explain, watching their eyes. Both seem to be extremely confused.

"Okay, let me show you then," I say, giving them and apologetic smile. I proceed to clap four counts and mark time eight counts.

"Oh that's not so hard," Wombat says, laughing. I nod.

"Okay, so now you guys try. I'll count off, and then you start okay?"

"Okay!" They shout in unison. I begin to clap and count off.

"One, two, one two th-"

"Band at-ten hut!" Is shouted from the entrance corner of the tennis court. The band snaps to attention, and all eyes are on the owner of the shout.

"Lunch time!" It's the band director.

"Lunch already?" The newbie mellophones ask.

"I guess so..." I reply, slightly confused as to why lunch feels so early.

"Awesome!" Wombat says, and runs off, following the rest of the band members. Velociraptor trails behind, waiting for me.

"Don't tell him, but Wombat kinda bothers me. He's so arrogant," She says, her short, light blonde hair covering half of her face. Bright green eyes shine through, happiness and anger mingling inside.

"Haha don't worry, I had to deal with him for a year in middle school," I say, laughing lightly, and then lowering my voice,"It was terrible." We both burst out laughing, drawing the attention of several band students also lingering behind with their freshmen. I give sarcastic smiles to each of them, and they return to speaking with their own kind.

"When will I get to play the mellophone?" She asks, smiling.

"Next week," I explain.

"Is it difficult?" She asks, curiosity dancing in her eyes.

"Definitely not, it's just like the trumpet, all you have to do is learn the fingerings for it," I reply, soothing what fears she must have bad.

"That's good," She replies, nodding enthusiastically.

When we reach the door, I hold it open for her and the several other people following. When I'm sure no one else is coming, I enter. Velociraptor is waiting for me just ahead, a smile on her face.

"Haha, do you think Benjamin is funny?" She asks, walking at my side.

"Hmm, I guess, I mean he can be quite annoying," I say.

"Well, before you got there, he was trying to convince us to run to Publix and buy him cake," She says, laughing. Dang it Benjamin, stop stealing last year's seniors' ideas.

I decide not to reply to her, which she didn't seem to mind. We were entering the cafeteria, when Benjamin races up to me.

"Eden, guess what?!" He asks, bouncing in place.

"What Benjamin?" I ask, rolling y eyes.

"They have cake!" He announces, a smile flying onto his face.

"Wonderful," I say, laughing lightly. I hear a small giggle from Velociraptor.

"I'm going to wait until after lunch to get some though," he explains. I nod, and he runs off in the direction of where he must be sitting.
