A/N: OMG. I was just making a MMV. (Search up on Youtube MMV. If you want to be specific search 'MMV Ghost EraXStudio' or something like that. It stands for Maple Music Video) Anyways... I was reading 'Lost Memories' by Esa MaRie at the same time and this story just hit me. Now I'm writing it before I lose motivation. Also the beginning of Hikaru no Go manga is set in 1999 so I'm doing the prologue four years before.A/N: In my fanfic Haze Middle has grades 6-9. Normal Japanese Middle School's have middle schools in 7-9. I swear, I planned this to be longer but I guess I got lazy. How'd you like it? My first fanfic. Criticism's are widely accept. They'll help me get better?
Prologue: One Moonless Night

"Good morning! Fujiwara-san!"
"'Morning"
"Good morning!"
"'Morning"
Fujiwara Sai, the current defender of the Hon'inbo title, sighed as he opened the door to Touya Kouyo's study group and grinned brightly. "What did I miss?" he chirped happily. Akira looked up and smiled, "Good morning, Fujiwara-san" Touya Akira looked up to Fujiwara Sai as much as he did with his father; while he never had a chance to play Sai it was one of his dreams; to play a well-respected man who was on equal stand- no... maybe even higher then his father. But while he never took any disciples, there were many who wanted to be his disciples. But the only thing he lacked was respect... Kouyo smiled as he mentally motioned a seat. "I'm sorry for calling this study group early in the morning," he started to his group, "Especially in the Go Institute, but our house..." he trailed off, "Isn't exactly set up for a study group" Kouyo finished after a brief second of silence.
The others nodded, but Sai nodded while grinning foolishly. Kouyo looked at Sai questionably "Did something good happen, Fujiwara-san?" Sai held his cheeks with both hands and blushed, "Its just that my hime-chan's birthday is today so I was wondering what I should buy her" Akira smiled politely. "I never seen your 'hime-chan' but you're always talking about her" Akira started, "Is she your friend?"
Sai looked offended at Akira and suddenly Akira felt uncomfortable in the small mat he was sitting on. "Hime-chan my best friend!" he exclaimed, "My little sister" he then exclaimed proudly. "Hi-" he got interruptted by a knock on the door. Touya Akiko opened the door slowly and peeked in. "I just thought that you would like some tea while you're studying" Akiko grinned holding up a bag with a tea set and Jasmin tea. Kouyo nodded, "Thank you" he turned to the group and got out the goke. "Shall we start?" he questioned.

"Dammit!" a young girl, of eleven, continuously missed her step but caught it everytime. A hairbrush was hanging from her half-done bedhair, clothes were just randomly thrown on, maybe a few buttons undone, her right shoulder was hanging bare, and her backpack was wide open. If you examined her closely you might see some eye crust.
She saw the school building from a distance and sighed in relief, until she made a turn and bumped into a older lady. The older lady fell on her butt as the girl, Fujiwara Hikaru, fell flat on her face. Her body twitched as she tried to endure the pain shooting in every direction of her face. The lady looked up and gasped as she, almost, had a heart attack looking at a dead kid on the floor. The lady stood up quickly, dusted off her long skirt and looked over Hikaru, who was still on the floor.
Touya Akiko, held out her hand to the girl. "A-Are you okay?" she said worriedly. Hikaru groaned and rolled over to lay flat at the ground looking at the sky. Hikaru waved her hand, "Nothing to see here. Just let me lay here for a couple minutes-" just then she felt a sharp tug and before she knew it she was standing up. "I'm sorry," Akiko bowed. Hikaru, uncomfortable, at the lady bowing at her; did the same. "S-Sorry..." she mumbled. Akiko looked up and down at the... 'mess' that was before her. "Are you going to cleaning duty?" Hikaru could only stare at the woman. Was this woman crazy? School starts in less then five minutes and she's talking about cleaning? Akiko showed her watch to Hikaru, it was only 7:20 AM. Hikaru gasped and sputtered at the watch, she could arrive at school even if she walked like a turtle!
Akiko chuckled, "I thought so" she was completely unaware of her broken teapot. She bent down and started to straighten her pants, "I'm sure that the teacher will accept it if you're a little late" Hikaru fidgeted every once a while, but took this as a chance to not go to the restroom during class just to straighten her clothes. Akiko calmly straightened her pants, buttoned her shirt; much to Hikaru's embarrassment; and brushed her hair with the hairbrush stuck in her hair. Then she reached into her pocket and took out a mini first-aid kit. Akiko chuckled alittle, "My son used to be really clumsy when he was little," she said as if recalling the old days, "He's not anymore, but you never know"
Akiko took the liberty of tying Hikaru's hair up into a high-ponytail with her elastic. Hikaru bowed and gasped at the sight of her broken teapot. Akiko only sighed at it. "It was getting old," she bent down to pick up the broken pieces. Hikaru rushed to help her, as repaying a debt. But then she had a better idea. She dug into her backpack for a piece of paper and a pen. When she found one she leaned over a nearby wall and quickly scribbled her big brother's, Fujiwara Sai's, cell-phone on it and the date. Whenever she wrote something, she felt as if writing the date was important. Hikaru gave her the paper saying if she wanted to be paid and ran off before she could say anything.
Akiko only stared at the paper and the girl running away. She chuckled to herself before stuffing the paper into her purse, "Funny girl," she mumbled.

"...Then Commodore Perry arrived at Uraga Bay-" the teacher, Midori-sensei, was interupted by the bell, signalling the end of class along with the end of school. The sixth graders started packing up and started talking about plans for after school. "Homework is page 304! Questions 1-10!" Midori-sensei said loud enough for the class to hear. "Dismissed!"
Fujisaki Akari made her way to Hikaru's desk and grinned. "Nee, nee, Hikaru. Do you want to go karaoke with the Go club? Birthday present..." Akari teased Hikaru with the last sentence. Hikaru packed up her bag and shook her head, "Tomorrow?" she suggested, "Sai-nii and I are going to the mall. He's going to buy me whatever I want! No matter how expensive!" Every girl in class ears perked up when they heard the word mall and started rushing to Hikaru.
"You're going to the mall?!"
"Let me go also!"
"No matter how expensive, right?"
Akari laughed as she noticed the girls gathered around Hikaru. She sent a signal to the smaller group of girls in the corner, saying no. They sighed and they walked up to Akari.
"What happened?" asked a chubby girl, Kumiko, looked at Hikaru then at Akari. Akari just shrugged and sighed. "Sibling day-out?" she suggested. They all nodded understandably They knew how much Hikaru liked to hang out with her brother since he was always so busy. Even though they never even seen him, they believed that she had a brother because no matter how much of a liar or dense she was she would never lie about something like this. Tsutsui looked out the window behind Hikaru and saw a giant piano in a distance. "Whats that?" he asked questionably. Akari looked at it and shrugged. "Maybe a new person moved in and they can't get a grand piano through the door?"

Sai huffed and puffed as he strolled behind Hikaru who was window-shopping at every store possible. He even had to stop at an ATM nearly four times! Each time for a 15,000 yen withdrawal! But at least his Go career gave him a lot of money so he doesn't need to worry about a measly 45,000 yen. But on the other side... He was the one who was carrying all the bag.
By that time is was time to go home. The duo walked home the long way to savor the May night. Cool breeze with absolutely no clouds and tons of stars. Even the moon wasn't in sight.
"Sai-nii!"
A energetic girl's voice sounded, it danced through the wind as she grinned at her older brother. Sai just put the last of the shopping bags in the car. Well... It wasn't technically his car but Ogata's. Ogata Seiji was generous, and a bit annoyed, enough to led his junior... Or should it be senior? Anyway, he was generous enough to led Sai his car for the night to take Hikaru around for her eleventh birthday.
Hikaru pulled her brother over to an antique store which Sai immediately pulled out his wallet to see if he had any thing over. In that one single night he spent over 61,000 yen. He has 20,000 yen in his wallet. Sai then decided that he will give Hikaru his own personal present to her; that will be picken out at the antique store.
It was filled with glass and ancient goods. Even Sai got interested instead of one of those punk goth clothing stores, or gaming stores. But one thing that got him interested was a old goban. The sides were chipped off, one of the legs were wobbly and the stones were stained. The store-owner came up to him and smiled, "Thats one of our cheapest items here. 5,923 yen. Nobody would buy it so we had to lower the price. But its still real kaya" Sai knew that it was real kaya when he first saw it. He pulled out a 10,000 yen bill and gives it to her. "Keep the change," he said to the store-owner who beamed.
Just then Hikaru sighed and dragged Sai out the door with the goban in hand. "There was nothing good in there..." she sighed once more. Sai chuckled as he handed Hikaru the goban. "My personal present to you, hime-chan" Hikaru looked at the goban and grinned brightly. "You mean that I don't have to play on that magnetic board?" she said hopefully. Sai took out a pen and initialed across the side of the board. Hikaru read the personal message and laughed to herself. "Thank you, Sai-nii" she said graciously, "If I wasn't holding this you wouldn't be breathing by now" which that was Hikaru's way of saying 'If I wasn't holding this I would hug you to death'
They both laughed as Sai pulled out the car keys and clicked 'unlock'; to which the car was just a meter away. Just then a grand piano dropped a yard away and Sai suddenly stopped talking. Hikaru looked around and saw her older brother frozen in place. His foolish grin in place, his right hand stretched out to click the unlock and his left hand in his jean pockets. Tears started to stream down his face and he fell flat on his face. Hikaru nearly dropped the goban but she fell to her knees along with it. A sharp piece of the piano was broken off during the fall and it pierced through Fujiwara Sai's heart.
The rest of the night was a blur for Hikaru. All she remembers is seeing a white sheet pulled over Sai's face.

Note: Yen system is different from the USD (United State Dollars). For example around 546 yen is around $5? 1,000 yen is about $10. Then 10,000 yen
I'll continue it, but if people really want me to continue I'll update maybe on Tuesday?
