|Naught But an Echo
Author: MayaLopezEcho PM
Maya Lopez has seen a lot in her deaf lifetime, but no one seems to remember her... This is really, really, really short and hardly worth posting, but I hope somebody reads this and gets a quick look into my favorite character ever. So, yeah. This is the extremely summarized story of Maya Lopez, also known as Echo. Sometimes known as Ronin. Mostly just unknown.Rated: Fiction K+ - English - Words: 451 - Reviews: 1 - Published: 01-14-13 - id: 8910038

Really quick write I did for my favorite character ever. Probably the shortest thing I've ever written, so...
She can't hear. Never has been able to, and she's worked past that. Learning to speak was the first stepping-stone, the first piece of the puzzle. She taught herself to read lips after that, and then life was pretty easy. Everyone told her she was special, that these talents did not come naturally, and she was grateful of that. People did not catch on to her being deaf as quickly, and she enjoyed seeming normal. Her powers helped with other things, too. She studied martial arts and boxing, picking up useful skills. Then she met him. He was the first person she met who she really liked, and she fell pretty deeply in love. Then he was her father's killer, but then he wasn't, and suddenly her whole life felt more like a lie. Then he moved on without her, and she tried to keep her world together. Then she was a New Avenger, and her life felt more complete. She felt like she was doing something important, something that mattered. Something that would make her a good person. That time came and went, and then she was back to nothingness. Her old teammates didn't even remember her. There were phone conversations and meetings, but no one seemed to think about her anymore. She finally started to wonder if that was going to be it. She had done 'good', right? She had followed the heroes and dreamers, but she was still stuck in the shadows. Maybe that was all she would ever get. Maybe she would stay in the dark her entire life. Maybe somebody out there would remember the deaf girl who could copy movements. Maybe they wouldn't. Her words, which no one could seem to recall, were nothing but dust in the wind. He might think of her, just feel that painful reminder that there used to be someone who cared for him. Her team might find her picture hanging in some dark corner, or find some old keepsake she had left. They might stop and think, but there was no way they would remember her. Her presence had left their lives and their minds. Someday, she would see them again. Someday, she would give them a hand. Someday, she would laugh and talk as if they had never parted ways. But, until then, she would be naught but an echo floating around the world.
Yeah, really short. Sorry... Maya Lopez is my favorite character, and no one ever thinks of her, so I thought I'd just get a few words down.
