"EEEEEFFFFIIIIIIEEEEEEE!"
Haymitch is drunk (again) and he approaches Effie in living room of the penthouse while she watches Katniss and Peeta in the games.
He struts in yells her name once more. She turns to him, annoyed, saying,
"Haymitch! Do you mind being quiet? I'm trying to watch Katniss and Peeta."
He stares at her for a little bit and then looks at his cup of liquor. Then he looks back at her and launches his wine, spilling it all over her favorite dress.
She looks upset with him and stutters, and then gets up and examines the damage done to the silk. Haymitch stands at the end of the sofa, silently laughing. She screams inside and marches up to him.
"I can't believe I'm saying this! It goes against everything I believe in! But Haymitch Abernathy? You are a complete idiot!" He tilts his head and smiles at her, then says,
"You think I don't already know that?" He chuckles for two seconds and then freezes. "Wait . . . let me rephrase that." Effie rolls her eyes and strides to her room.
After a few hours of silence, Effie comes out of her room and walks back into the living room, finding that Haymitch is gone. She sighs, relieved, and takes a step into the seating area when Haymitch opens the door. She stops and asks, "Where were you?"
"Dealing with sponsors," he replies as he clicks on the TV. Katniss and Peeta recieve a decent sized bowl of soup.
Haymitch and Effie look at each other and he smiles and gives a thumbs up. They sit at the sofa and watch for a while.
On screen, the feast is announced and Peeta is trying to convince Katniss to stay. She kisses him.
The air gets really akward between Haymitch and Effie. He glances at her and then turns his attention back to the screen. He tries to kill the akwardness.
"I'm sorry I spilled wine on your fancy dress." She turns to him and says lightly,
"Oh, it's no big deal. I'm sure I can buy a new one," then looks away.
"Effie?"
"Yes?"
"You won't tell them about any of this, will you?"
She turns again, curious.
"No, I wouldn't plan to."
"Good."
Haymitch grasps her wrists and kisses her. Her eyes become wide and they stay that way for a minute. Then she pushes him away. He makes a weird face and mumbles an apology, then lets go of her wrists and walks away. She tries to sort her emotions.
