Just an idea I couldn't resist writing about.
Prologue
Shawn has never handled death well. So it made sense that he snapped when his best friend, Burton Guster, was killed in cold blood in front of him. No, Shawn never liked death; But what he did like was revenge.
"Shawn, this is crazy," Juliet said with a a plea in her tone. "Please, just think this through."
"I've thought about it as much as I need to, Jules," said Shawn in a cold, simple, and un Shawn like voice. "I'm not going to sit around here and let the police not find Gus's killer. I'm going after himself myself. Gus deserves that."
"Look, the Santa Barbara police department is doing everything they can-"
"And where as that gotten us, huh, Jules?" snarled Shawn. "Where?! It's been 6 MONTHS and we're still no where closer to catching the guy then we were the day he killed Gus in front of me!"
Tears sprang from Juliet's eyes as she thought about that horrible, horrible day.
Juliet remembered when she found Shawn on the floor next to Gus's body. All too clearly she could remember the horrified and shocked look on Shawn's face. Everyone in that room, even Lassiter, had on that look. She remembered Henry Spencer trying to comfort Shawn and Shawn refusing to be comforted. She remembered Lassiter holding back his own tears as he covered Gus's body. She remembered every little detail, though she wished to God that she didn't.
She had watched Shawn dissolve from the man she once knew and transform into another person completely. And she didn't like that person.
That person was cold, dark, and scared her a little.
She would watch as he had random outbursts during those months. Where he would trash the office or her place, or his, in fits of rage.
She would comfort him when he broke down crying in the middle of the floor.
She would wake him when he shouted in his sleep from the nightmares that now permanently haunted him.
And now she watched as he showed another dark side to him.
The side that thirsted and longed for revenge.
The side that terrified her the most. She had no idea what this Shawn was capable of anymore.
Both Henry and Lassiter had tried to talk some sense into Shawn, to try and help him. But he refused to listen to them. And now he was refusing to listen to her.
He finished packing his bags and turned to face her again with tears in his eyes.
She hated how often there were tears in them now.
"Juliet." His voice cracked when he spoke. "I need to do this, for Gus's sake-and for mine. I would do the same if you were killed. And can you honestly tell me you wouldn't do the same if it was me?"
Juliet swallowed.
"Shawn..."
"Look, you're either with me, or against me."
She closed her eyes. O'Hara couldn't believe what she was about to do. A thousand laws were about to be broken, but right then she didn't care. Following Shawn was the only way she knew how on how to keep him safe.
Slowly she nodded.
"I'm with you, Shawn. I'm always with you."
I know this is short, but I hope it's not too terrible!
