Why I Chose It: Not my best fic, but this was my first MSB fic with this pen name. Despite how I feel that it's utter crap now, it holds a special place in my heart as my first serious MSB fic. I remember writing it during that summer before my freshman year of high school (so I was what? 14?), and I took the name from my friend's work-in-progress HP fic (because she stole my idea).

2. The Life and Times of the Fantasmic 4

When did you first start shipping your OTP?

I remember specifically it was September 1995. I was eight years old, in the third grade, and the first time I watched "The Busasaurus", I fell in love with the idea of Phoebe liking Arnold. They were my two favorites before I liked the idea of one liking the other, so that helped the idea even more for me. When I had re-read my old school books, The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth became my favorite because of Phoebe the new kid tagging along with Arnold, who told her she'd "get used to" the Friz.

Does your OTP have a nickname?

I like to call it the Lefty Daywalkers because they're both left handed, and they're redheads who can go out in the sun (according to Eric Cartman of South Park).

Do you associate anything with your OTP?

Mostly canon stuff like dinosaurs ("The Busasaurus"), the color orange ("Goes Cellular"), pumpkin pies ("Goes Cellular"), jackrabbits ("All Dried Up"), coral reefs ("Takes a Dive"), foxes ("In the City"), seeds and pollen ("Goes to Seed"), and Mallowblasters ("Gets Planted"). Oh, and now I also associate karate with them (thanks, Sunny).

Even though the song is about a guy telling his loved one he'd follow her into the dark when they die, the music is just so A/P to me. The lines "You and me/Have seen everything to see" made me think "They pretty much have", even though this could work for any MSB couple, but since I see Death Cab to be a very Phoebe-band, I loved it.

I now like the idea of Phoebe's middle name being "Michelle" because of this song. The lines "Michelle ma belle/Sont les mots qui vont très bien ensemble/Très bien ensemble" sold me because Phoebe is French, and I see Arnold eventually falling for a certain auburn haired French girl, like Paul does in the song. I also had a plot bunny where Arnold sang this song to her.

This one is just silly. Day Man...Daywalkers...and not to mention, in the song, Day Man is a master of karate: Arnold used karate, and in the original books, Phoebe was in a karate class.

How do you see your OTP getting together?

I see it as a definite unrequited crush in canon, which I love that idea. I see Phoebe's unrequited crush on him being off and on, and as he goes through different relationships in junior high and early high school, he'd go to her to talk and ask for girl-advice. Eventually, he'd fall for her awkwardly cute, shy girl-next-door charm, and he'd ask her out. Before they go off to college, I see him thinking they're moving too fast and break up with her, only for them to eventually get back together later on in college (I also see him subconsciously comparing girls he dates in college to Phoebe).

What other ship(s) reminds you of your OTP? Why?

The first, and main, one that comes to mind is Bobby/Pam, my Dallas OTP. When I first started watching Dallas, I fell hard for the first couple shown, Bobby James Ewing and Pamela Jean Barnes Ewing. The two were the youngest in their families, who are involved in a "Texas sized" family feud, and when the first episode starts, we learn they eloped to New Orleans. It helped that Patrick Duffy and Victoria Principal had amazing chemistry together, but it was also just the characters of both. Bobby was the good looking nice guy, so devoted to his family ("You know my stand, Vaughn. The Ewings are a family."). Despite always fighting with his big brother J.R. and defending others (like Pam) from him, he still loved his brother. That reminded me of the Arnold and Janet dynamic (oh, Janet, you girl-J.R.). Arnold sticks up for his cousin, but at the same time, he defends the ones she picks on (like Phoebe). Pam was a lot like Phoebe to me, the more I watched the show. Both were passionate (especially when it came to women's rights), maternal, and caring. Both also could hold their own again J.R. and Janet (Pam when she corrected J.R. for calling her "Miss Barnes" ("It's Mrs. Ewing!")(J.R. later remarks "I underestimated the new Mrs. Ewing"), and Phoebe for wanting to name the team the Butterflies). When I started writing Arnold and Phoebe older, the Bobby/Pam dynamic was a major influence. I tried not to write them exactly like Bobby and Pam (because that's just dumb, and they're not exactly like Bobby and Pam), but I somewhat thought back to their relationship, mostly because I can see Arnold and Phoebe growing to be similar to them (sans the family feud, wheeling and dealing, multi-million dollar oil companies, and various other things that happen on Dallas I can't see happening on MSB).

Carlos/Dorothy Ann

When did you first start shipping your OTP?

I can't remember why exactly I had this crazy impulse to look up MSB fanfiction (I usually just read L/J fanfiction down in the HP section), but one day I did. I had already had the idea of C/DA thrown at me earlier and even though I don't actually remember 'shipping' any characters when I was young, C/DA just seemed so natural and obvious to me once it was suggested anyway. So the fanfics I was looking for were C/DA. I stumbled upon a series by EverAfter (notes, swimming, etc..) and fell instantly in love with the ship. Her interpretation was absolutely perfect, so similar to mine, and the two of them clicked so well. I was hooked. I rewatched the old episodes after that, looking for every little C/DA moment I could find. There were quite a few ;)

Does your OTP have a nickname?

SS Starstruck, which I think EverAfter came up with, Chocolate Cake, because of the chemistry episode, and I like Telescopes and Chemistry too.

Do you associate anything with your OTP?

Violet, Purple, Chocolate Cake, falcons, anything celestial... there's probably more..

Youtube doesn't have the vocals version of it sadly. It's in French, so I don't really know what it's about (vague idea), but I just love the tune and it always makes me think of C/DA

How do you see your OTP getting together?

I have a few different plot bunnies. But how I usually see it is, well it's obvious they have that chemistry between them in the show. I can kind of see Carlos realizing he likes this girl as more than a friend later on and ends up always doing really stupid things around her later because he doesn't know what to do. DA I see figuring it out a little later, and being horrified it's him she fell for. I see them both being reluctant to do anything about it, not because they're shy, but because they're kind of afraid of what would happen if they dated and broke up, they're too proud to admit anything, and they're also afraid of exposing that vulnerability. I also see DA wanting to wait a bit for Carlos to mature. But eventually of course, they can't help themselves ;)

What other ship(s) reminds you of your OTP? Why?

A lot of elements I see in the R/Hr ship, as well as a few from the L/J ship. Any ship that bickers then falls in love can probably be associated with them.

When did you first start shipping your OTP?

Hang on a minute, let me think this through... apparently since June. I think I liked them when I was little, but I honestly don't remember much. They grew on me.

Do you associate anything with your OTP?

Not a whole lot from canon, but things like REO Speedwagon and the Four Seasons remind me of them. It's weird, but hey, so am I.

Okay, the video is hilarious, and I can't help but acknowledging it. Although I don't think that Ralphie would aspire to have a fluffy mullet so girls would show up outside his window (although they did anyway, in "Inside Ralphie"), something about this song is so Ralphie. I could see him liking REO Speedwagon and other power ballads (as his weak spot), so it would make sense for him to apply it to a relationship. It's also part of my PC that he tries telling Keesha (his other major serious girlfriend) that he loves REO, but she has no idea what he's talking about, whereas he and Phoebe were both raised around classic rock and oldies, so they both know what he's talking about. The song was released in 1984, the year they were both born in my PC. Some lyrics I adore: "And you know, it seems that I'm following you, girl/'Cause you take me to the places that alone I'd never find," as it reminds me of the Friz's class. :)

They're both romantics who could convince each other that they've been in love forever, even if they weren't. Although so different, something about their personalities click, and I could see their different interests bringing their relationship something much better than a relationship where both parties are too similars.

How do you see your OTP getting together?

I see it starting out as ships crossing in the night - Phoebe decides she loves Ralphie after going to a dance with him in high school, then helps psych him up to ask Keesha out. Their friendship definitely comes first. Later, after Ralphie and Keesha break up (and Arnold and Phoebe break up), Ralphie is the one who gets an unrequited crush at first. Then, perhaps a bit later, they catch up after drifting apart, and bam, they're together.

1. I remember wishing for an episode with no field trip, just so you could see the kids interacting outside of school. It'd establish the closest friendships better.

2. An episode that wasn't a boy/girl argument. Rather something like Tim vs. Carlos or something, to establish the guy/guy, girl/girl friendships better. The only one I remember was a DA/Wanda ep (coral reefs), and a Carlos/Arnold (volcano) ep.

3. Well I could never have enough C/DA moments, but I'm actually pretty happy with the amount given in the show. The C/DA moments the writers give are pretty generous to us C/DA shippers. However I agree with everafter: we needed a shot of Carlos and DA reading a book together.

Well, it could be. Phoebe could like bugs (like in the spider ep) but not like eating them. (She exclaimed digust at the idea of eating bugs in 'hops home', not about bugs.) I mean, I love praying mantis', but I'd be grossed out with the idea of actually eating one. So it's not really contradicting. *shrugs* And I'm also probably thinking too much about this.. :p

Carlos/Dorothy Ann

When did you first start shipping your OTP?

When I first began watching the show sometime in early elementary school, I remember liking the dynamic the two of them had, even in episodes that weren't centered on them. They just were SO obvious to me...OF COURSE Carlos and Dorothy Ann liked each other, why else would loud exhuberant CARLOS get all shy when she hugged him etc etc. And then before I even knew what fanfiction was, sometime in early high school, I began to write down little ideas about the gang in high school, mostly centering on Carlos and Dorothy Ann. (Melonrinds, thank you so much for the compliment on my writing, I'm glad it helped sell you completely on the C/DA ship:)

Does your OTP have a nickname?

There are several, as Melonrinds has already mentioned...I did come up with SS Starstruck, and it is my favorite, because I like the romantic connotations of the word Starstruck. I also like Chocolate Cake, too.

Do you associate anything with your OTP?

Bickering, books by famous authors, soccer, violet/purple, like Melonrinds, anything having to do with astronomy...

What songs remind you of your OTP?

"Breathless" by the Corrs...the lyrics of this I think are just so perfect for C/DA on the brink of a real relationship, getting over the denial "Go on, leave me breathless/tempt me, tease me/till I can't deny this loving feeling/let me long for your kiss..." There would be a brief period, I think, where they'd just be so completely absorbed with each other, where every touch would leave them charged and wanting more...even the fighting would cease briefly.

"Small Umbrella in the Rain" - this song is from the Broadway musical Little Women, and the song is about two people who bicker all the time, yet realize they very much can't live without each other. Sounds like C/DA to me:) "We'll fight our way through life/We'll disagree the best we can/And yet.../You make me smile, you make me laugh, you make me care/how can I explain inside my heart I feel a pain when you're not there.../though we are not at all alike, you make me feel alive.../yes, we have that in common...that one small thing in common..."… it's just SUCH a Carlos/DA song, admitting that they fight and they bicker and they are so different, but they make each other feel alive, and that's enough to keep them together...*sighs at fluffiness*

How do you see your OTP getting together?

Well, I have different specific scenarios, but the overall gist would go something like this: Carlos and D.A would grow up together, best friends, knowing virtually everything there is to know about each other, and bickering all along the way. Everyone else would kind of expect that they will get together, that it's really only a matter of time. There would be a sort of "Oh no, I like him/her" moment for both of them, sometime in middle school or early high school, which would be followed by the realization that it's always been Carlos for Dorothy Ann, or Dorothy Ann for Carlos. The next few years would be filled with even more bickering, but of the more sexually charged variety, as they both receive attention from the opposite sex. I can see Carlos entertaining several girls with his charming smile and latino sexiness which would make Dorothy Ann furious that he's so confident, while Dorothy Ann would attract Tim and Phil, to the absolute (and perhaps hypocritical) anger of Carlos, who is worried that she'll end up falling for someone who's not good enough for her and not challenging enough.

Eventually, all the angst would come to an end and they would get together sometime in high school. There would be some drama around college application time, because I see both of them with clear goals they would want to follow, and it might take them separate directions. I have them attending different colleges, but in the same area and they manage to keep their relationship together throuugh college, and after that point it's only a matter of time until they get engaged and married.

What other ship(s) remind you of your OTP?

Ron/Hermione, obviously, which is my HP OTP. I just see a lot of similarities between them, the fighting and bickering and also their personalities seem similar. I've also seen some similarities between C/DA and Han Solo/Princess Leia - the whole relaxed, laid back charming scoundrel thrown together with the uptight, rule following intelligent young woman and yet they click. It makes want to write some sort of dramatic MSB space war epic…

And...

Three things I wish were in the show:

1. Carlos and D.A reading a book together.

2. A visit from the kids in the original book series...I would love to write a fic about the tv kids meeting the book kids (the ones that weren't both book and tv, that is, but the ones like George and Florrie and Phil and Rachel etc etc etc)

3. All Ms. Frizzle's conquests having a showdown for her, or else Ralphie and Arnold competing for Phoebe.

Three things I would remove from the show:

1. I would change Wanda's voice, because sometimes it gets on my nerves.

2. All the episodes that have to do with flying and airpressure and the one with Captain Walker's statute...they bore me.

3. Hmmm...the Harry Herp guy...he was creepy...

Ohh! I totally forgot about Han/Leia. I see similarities between the ships too, for the reasons you mentioned.

I've explained my reasons for this song so many times in these forums, and I don't really feel like explaining it again one more time:P But this is one of my favorite C/DA theme songs, because I think it puts a less angsty, conflicted spin on their relationship and leaves it as a more carefree ship, a more established Carlos and Dorothy Ann.

I kind of see R/P as a ship that sort of happened by accident. As their feelings slowly begin to develop, they would find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other, and at first they wouldn't really know what to do with each other and the strange new feelings that don't make sense. I can see both of them being in other relationships when they first begin to actually feel something more, and I think Phoebe especially would be scared of what she's feeling.

Mikey/Evan - Stolen, Dashboard Confessional

This puts me in mind of a boy watching a girl on the dance floor, which is an image that reminds me of Evan and Mikey. I imagine Evan as bubbly and outgoing, full of laughter, and I think Mikey (who I characterize as quieter than Carlos) wouldn't believe someone so carefree and smiling would ever fall for him. Also, I think Evan might play at being older, to get Mikey to notice her, and the "highest heels" line puts me in mind of that.

4. Arnold/Phoebe - Kiss Me, Sixpence None the Richer

This song just screams out "Arnold and Phoebe!" to me. I can just imagine them sneaking off in the moonlight, finding some old abandoned tire swing and swinging on it. When both Arnold and Phoebe are paired with each other, I see them both as quieter and shyer than their friends, and the imagery in this song very much reflects their personalities when they are together (at least to me).

5. Ralphie/Keesha - Be My Escape, Relient K

I don't really know why this song reminds me of Ralphie and Keesha together. I think that if either one of them fell for the other, they would fall hard but wouldn't be able to accept the fact, which would cause a lot of angst. That sort of feeling might strike Keesha especially, and I think she'd have to accept that the only way to stop feeling like crap all the time would be for Ralphie to "let her escape"

This song totally reminds me of Wanda/Ralphie. In a relationship with Ralphie, I don't think Wanda would ever stop being very friendly and vivacious to her other male friends, but I think Ralphie would be okay with that as long as it was understood between them that ultimately he would be "taking her home".

Probably the first msb ship I noticed (Wanda would be so impressed - oh Arnold!). I noticed it during my msb revival episode, before C/DA even I think.

The first line reminds me of A/W especially. They have been friends forever and now they're feeling something new.

How do you see A/W getting together?

I see Arnold having an off again, on again crush on Wanda. He does find her demanding habits annoying, but eventually gives her heck for it, letting her know exactly what he thinks of her faults. It hurts Wanda emmensely, the words more painful coming from Arnold than from anyone else. She has been his best friend for what seems like ages. They get past that and she has to find out if he still thinks of her as a best friend after the way she treats him.

He says of course, because if anyone can see the good in Wanda, it's Arnold.

Then Wanda, grows from appreciating him as a best friend, to falling for him. Arnold was just waiting for her to grow out of her childish habits.

-Keesha doesn't know what to major in at first in college and just takes lots of philosophy classes (because she just loves those proofs) as well as math classes and science classes. In the end she gets some sort of degree in philosophy but ends up doing at least an extra semester since she didn't know what she was doing at first.

-After college she gets a lot of odd jobs, mostly working as consultants or math experts for scientific/engineering companies.

-A couple years after college she gets a job working for Mythbusters using her logic skills and science background. Ralphie sees her on TV and they connect for the first time in a few years.

Wanda

1. Three facts about them from your personal canon/fanon.

Her favorite sports are risky ones like rock climbing, hang glidings, etc. She went to college for some sort of field research degree in hopes that she could do something like her favorite sports only get paid for it. She and Arnold end up working together after College.

2. A reason he/she sucks.

She's an accident waiting to happen and she doesn't notice Arnold despite how much he likes her because to her she's just one of the boys.

3. A reason he/she is awesome.

She's not afraid of anything and always ready to try to show one of the boys up, especially Ralphie.

4. Five things that never happened to that character.

She never becomes lesbian or ultra feminine or narcisistic... you can be tomboyish without being either. um... that's all I've got. well, how about she never runs for president and... I'm out.

5. Five people that character never fell in love with and why.

Phoebe, Keesha, DA, Frizz, Tim... cuz she just doesn't think of them that way.

I chose a Miss Dorothy Ann Ewing:

1. Dorothy Ann was born outside of Dallas, earning the nickname "Big D from the Big D". Her bust size also helped with that nickname.

2. She's number four of five girls, often feeling like the "tortured middle child", since her older sisters were all known for something and Evan's "the baby".

3. The only sports she can stand watching are Minnesota Twins baseball, Minnesota Vikings football, and University of Minnesota Gophers hockey. This is because her mother was raised in Minnesota, and her mother's family all still live there (except for her mother's sister in Connecticut).

4. In high school, D.A. was a regular Renaissance Girl: she did student government, band, choir, tennis, rowing, lacrosse, various academic clubs, member of National Honor Society, and she was on the Homecoming Committee every year since freshman year. Her main reason for overachieving was to set herself apart from her older sisters, but she would never divulge this to the gang. They all assume it's because she wanted a lot on her college applications.

5. Her father's guilty pleasure was rebuilding old cars, and for her sixteenth birthday (in September), she got a red 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450SL:

7. Her mom, older sisters, and maternal aunt have two names like her. Evan was spared by their father.

8. She has no desire to follow in her mother's Miss Texas footsteps.

9. She lost her virginity to Carlos, but it took Arnold for her to find out she multiples.

10. In her free time, she enjoys surfing and duck hunting.

11. She will never...NEVER...admit she adds some highlight to her hair and that she tans from time to time.

12. She is a diehard Burberry fan. Handbag, perfume, accessories, whatever. If it's Burberry, she'll love it.

13. She's dated Carlos, Ralphie, Arnold, and Tim at least once since the eighth grade. She's had...*ahem*...relations with Carlos, Ralphie, Arnold, and Tim at least once since sophomore year.

14. She's actually had more physical boy-fun than Wanda; she just comes off less sleazy about it and doesn't brag like Wanda does.

15. She's always had a deep interest in ranching and farming. She credits her Minnesotan farming roots to that.

16. She's Danish and Chippewa on her mother's side, Scottish and Dutch primarily on her father's. She says her Native blood gave her the ability to tan.

17. Keesha enjoys calling her "WASPy McWASP".

18. She and Arnold are often told they would have the preppiest children ever.

19. Her first name "Dorothy" is from her great-grandmother, and her middle name "Ann" is from her maternal aunt, Melinda Anne ("e" taken off because her mother, Sue Ellen, prefers "Ann" to "Anne"). Later, her parents like to tell her she was named after former governor, (Dorothy) Ann Richards.

20. In her senior year of high school, she falls hard for politics and law after taking government. When she eventually becomes a lawyer and Congresswoman, she drops the "Dorothy" for professional reasons.

21. She won't ever tell Keesha and Wanda that she likes Phoebe the most of the three.

22.
