Topic: Songs and MSB
So this thread is for songs that A) remind you of ships or the gang and/or B) songs whose lyrics you alter for the characters. I'll start off.

Whilst listening to Franz Ferdinand's "L. Wells", I realized that if you changed "Lynsey Wells" to "Phoebe Terese", the song would so be about Phoebe:

The lines in the song that made me think this were:

Great Western Wind catches in your Celtic hair

Flicks it round your face like flames around the sun

In the bright cold air you seem as innocent and fair

As Rita Tushingham in 1961

and

How I wish that I could feel so good

I wish that I could be as good as you

and

How I wish that I could feel the good

Beyond the poison in us like you do

Not to mention the girl playing Lynsey Wells in the video looks very older-Phoebe to me.

I changed the lyrics to "Daydream Believer" to "cheer up, Phoebe Jean":

ETA: I so see Ralphie as being dorky like the Monkees.

"The Leader of the Pack" is so about motorcycle!Tim and Janet.

Janet: I met him in Ms. Frizzle's class,

He turned around and smiled at me, you get the picture?

girls: Yes, we see

Janet: That's when I fell for the leader of the pack (vroom vroom)

Oh Janet, she will never forget Tim, the Leader of the Pack.

(vroom vroom)

AND I FREAKIN' LOVE IT!

So, again, I'm plugging The Beatles' "Michelle", but I love the idea of Phoebe's middle name being "Michelle" and Arnold singing this song to her (but saying "Phoebe Michelle, ma belle"). And I love this live verson of Paul singing it because of the accordian:

I also happened to change the lyrics to Franz Ferdinand's "Dark of the Matinee" (this is what you do when you're driving the eight hours home) to make it seem like it's Friz-era Arnold singing to Phoebe, the new girl:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_uhyeVrkig

Take your white finger

Slide the nail under the top and bottom buttons of my polo

Relax the fraying cotton, slacken ties

And I'm not to look at you in the loafer, but the eyes, find the eyes

Find me and follow me through corridors, refectories and files

You must follow me, leave this Walkerville Elementary

You will find me in the matinee

The dark of the matinee

It's better in the matinee

The dark of the matinee is mine

Yes it's mine

Time every journey to bump into you, accidentally

I charm you and tell you of the boys I hate

All the girls I hate

All the field trips I hate

Even more field trips I hate

How I'll never be anything I hate

You smile, mention about your old school

And how you have a happy life ever since you transferred

So I'm on In Your Face now, telling Gerri Poveri how I made it and

What I made is unclear now, but her deference is and her laughter is

My words and smile are so easy now

Yes, it's easy now

Yes, it's easy now

Also, if you sing the real "Dark of the Matinee" chorus lyrics in place of the last song in "Holiday Special", it works:

Murph

Recycling is the gift, that keeps on giving

Friz

Oh, sing it, Murphmeister!

Murph

'Cause life ain't going to be worth living

Wanda

That's right!

Murph

Unless we all agree to say...

D.A.

What, Murph?

Murph

Don't just throw the world away!

Boys

No, no!

Murph

'Cause the dark of the matinee is mine!

You gotta find me and follow me

Through corridors, refectories

And files you must leave this academic factory

'Cause you'll find me and follow me

Friz

To the dark of the matinee!

All

The dark of the matinee is mine!

Murph

You better believe it, girl!

All

The dark of the matinee is mine!

Murph

Yeah! Yeah, yeah!

All

The dark of the matinee is mine!
