Ten years ago, destruction plagued the earth. Mother earth, also known by the name of Gaia, had gotten angry at her earthly inhabitants. The humans were simply wasting all the precious resources she had given them. They did not cherish her gifts nor share them with each other. Instead, Gaia watched as greed overtook the humans. Sorrow and pain pooled up inside of her until she could contain her emotions no more. Gaia started making natural disasters occur at alarming rates. Tsunamis soaked the earth while volcanoes covered it in ash. Hurricane winds ripped down everything in sight as earthquakes made buildings crumble and disappear. Eight years went by and every creature on the earth had been slaughtered, humans and animals alike. Gaia had destroyed them all and for one year was able to be at peace.

However, the goddess became lonely without anyone on her once beautiful planet. She began to regret her decision and tried to reverse it. Gaia took on the form of a young human girl and descended upon the earth. She began trying to put it back together, but rebuilding an entire planet is not an easy job, even for an immortal. Even worse, she found her powers had become decreasingly limited in her form. The titaness started experiencing many of the same things that the humans before her had. She could become injured, tired, and required basic necessitates to keep her energy level up. Though she did not appear to age, Gaia was unsure if her immortality still existed.

For one year Gaia remained in her human form and tired to repair everything. Finding it unbearable, she attempted to go back to her godly form. However, she found that her restricted powers would not allow her to return to her old form. Gaia had the suspicion that someone or something had cast a curse upon her. The worst part was that other immortals and monsters began popping up all over the earth. Immortals of several "mythologies" began taking on human forms. They were much like Gaia with limited powers and human experiences. Old marriages between the immortals were no longer in place in their new world. It was like everything had started anew, just as she had wanted.

Many forgot about their old life in the heavens. Some of those who remember started to blame Gaia for the curse that had been casted upon them. Slowly the world began to plunge into chaos. The immortals began to form six teams: Team Quartz, Team Peridot, Team Garnet, Team Citrine, Team Zircon, and Team Amethyst. They were either for or against what Gaia had done. Allies shifted, depending on how the team leaders felt. Each created a base in the ruins of a human city. Now, the members of each team are slowly discovering what their human forms are capable of while working towards each of their causes.
