Topic: Guidelines Which fics to add.

Im gonna try to clarify what types of female Ranma fictions belong on the list. Up until now the staff has developed a good understanding of this and its worked out well but I feel that this is gonna be required for any new people wanting staff position.

Remember that these are just guidelines so its gonna be quite vague. Nothing is set in stone and exceptions can be made for bordering fics.

If your're unsure post it on the forum before adding it to the list.

Quality control:

I like to leave my subjective opinion on quality outside the list. If a fic fits the list I usually add it unless its really bad. I would advice you to do the same but ill leave that decision with you.

I'm going to quote KaleRaven since s/he managed to put this into text way better than I could. The full post can be found here: http://www.fanfiction.net/topic/16193/1419617/1/

What KaleRaven did here was to first divide ranma-chan fics into 3 very basic categories and im going to stick with that. Lets call them cat 1,cat 2 and cat 3.

Cat 1

Ranma-chan fics

"The key to this sort of story is that Ranma is still Ranma (in mind). Not brainwashed, not raised totally differently making him a completely different character, or otherwise changed so that you can't tell that at some level, this is still Ranma. Sure, he might change by the end so that he doesn't really seem like the original Ranma, but there's a personal evolution that gets him there, not some magical switch. The part (which distinguishes from non-Onna Ranma stories) is that Ranma (by either force, desire, or necessity) eventually sees the feminine part as a real identity that is a part of him/herself, and embraces it (maybe without realizing it even). For whatever reasons, she ends up spending a lot (most/all) the time in female form. I think what a lot of people also expect is that by the end, Ranma seems pretty feminine, but that is a bit strict since being female doesn't mean you're a girly girl! ;p Some of the archetypical fics in this group would probably be "Thy Outward Part" series, "Iris Tales", "Tendo-Saotome Anything Goes", and many more.

Basically these stories are about "Identification." I.e. Ranma beginning to /Identify/ with feminine gender"

Cat 2

Ranko fics

"In this fic, Ranma isn't really Ranma in mind. He/she may look like Ranma (or Ranma-chan) but he definitely thinks differently, and didn't get that way on his own (e.g. Ranma is suddenly very OOC without a personal transition from IC Ranma to OOC Ranma. Magic/Jusenkyo is often the cause). I think 'Ranma is born a girl' and 'Spring changes Ranma's mental identity' fics definitely fit there, and they aren't really "Onna Ranma" fics so much as they're "Someone else (who happens to be female) in place of Ranma" fics. Sure, some stories seem very close to showing Ranma, if he was born as a girl, but that's still not Ranma since that person thinks of herself totally differently than Ranma ever did. ("Genma's Daughter" is an exception since Ranma is raised and thinks basically the same as the original born-as-male variety. It really belongs in the first group).

To sum up these stories in a word, I'd probably say they're "Other" fics. She's someone /Other/ than Ranma, that is."

Cat 3

Acceptence/I can live with it fics

"This sort of fic can often start out kind of like the first category, but the biggest difference is that Ranma's own identity/mindset doesn't really change. Sure, he may accept it now, but by the end it isn't in doubt that Ranma is still 'a man' at the core. A man with a female half maybe, but foremost a man. Very rarely have I seen a true equal time 'Ranma is dual-natured' fic. The theme is often 'Male Ranma learns to live with his girl side (or some aspect of it) as a blessing, not a curse.' Of course, a lot of stories like this can have so much of the first category that they're practically indistinguishable, but usually its apparent that sticking fulltime as a girl is 'temporary' (and sometimes the mental acceptance is only temporary too). I think "Girl Days" fits this group, along with "Sanctuary" (http://agnar.homestead.com/ranma.html) and "Monkey Head Butting".

One word answer: "Acceptance". Ranma is /Accepting/ feminine parts of himself, though not typically embracing or identifying with it."

Cat 1

These types definitely fits in here. They pretty much represent the core of the community.

Cat 2

These fics don't belong here. They are to out of character and this community is about Ranma after all.

A very common type of Ranko fic is where Ranma's curse is split in two. Now such a fic would be ok for ex the female version was an exact copy of ranmas mind. In most cases tho this is not the case.

Cat 3

Cat 3 is usually ok. I think that New Ranma is a pretty good example of cat3 fics.

I hope that helped a little, I will be revising this post but for now it will have to do. Discussions concerning it can be done here.
