-Annabel-

I glared at Rose, and saw a little ding of recignition in her eyes. So she DID remember me, then.

"Fine," I said, "Let me come with you, I know where we can put him."

"What, who are you?" I asked a nearby Jaguar. "Oh wait, Annabel, right? And where are we taking this little guy?" A dead silence fell over us all. "What is it? Can't anybody tell me? What is it? What's wrong?"

Rose sighed, and stared at Glinda. She then looked at Annabel. "Of course you can!" she replied, just wanting to aviod confrantion.

I turned to Galinda. "We're not GOING anywhere with him," I growled. "We're helping him ESCAPE!"

I looked to the Lion. "Dont' worry, little guy, we'll get you out of here," I purred.

"Okay, follow me."

"Correct! Okay, let's follow Annabel," Rose stated.

She took Elphaba's hand and started to half lead her over in the direction of Annabel.

I looked around to check that the cost was clear and then dashed off with everyone else.

I led the group over to a tunnel that Animals used to escape through. I figured it was appropriate, concidering the circumstances. I pointed with a claw at the hidden entrance, indicating Fiyero to put the cage down.

"This leads back to an Animal village," I mewed. "It should be safe for the cub, I think there's a family of Lions that live there."

"Home?" Rose asked, her voice filled with curiosity and hope.

I looked sadly over to Rose. "No, it's not our village. It's more of a... refuge. For when the Wizard decided to raid the village... and I think he has... but that isn't the point!" I interrupted myself on purpose; I will NOT cry, not in the presance of them.

"The point IS, that there are Animals living there, and they can take care of the Lion cub."

"oh...okay. sorry," Rose replied softly.

She smiled and clug to Elphie's hand tighter, although she would never call Elphaba 'Elphie' out loud.

Rose smiled, and then stated, "I would hold you paw, but i might get knicked."

She grinned widely, and swung her hand NOT holding Elphie's a little.

(I have a cat. The claws don't go in all the way, and I sometimes get knicked with her claws)

"Let's get moving then." I was not exactly in the happiest of moods, but if we could find the lion cub a better home than the random ** alley, then I would take it.

The tunnel we were entering wasn't exactly what you would call home-y, but it did the job of taking Animals from point A to B. I smirked at Fiyero and Galinda who where looking around with caution at the dirt covered walls. They were both dressed up and not exactly ready for a hike. My thoughts then continued wandering to the cub.

The poor lion cub was still in Fiyero's muscular arms... Wait! I didn't just think that. I shook my head out of the strange thought. Falling for someone, me of all people wasn't possible. I am not that girl. I looked back over at Galinda and thought that she was the type of girl who had a chance of falling for someone and it being okay, but me... no.

Once again I shook my head, trying to leave the topic, but it only settled in the back of my head, festering for another time.

Suddenly I heard a slipping sound. No one was talking so the squeals as Galinda rubbed her hand against the side of the tunnel echoed. I let go of Rose's hand, which I had just noticed, in time to pull Galinda up. There was to damage done, except a slime covered hand.

"Are you okay?"

I smothered a laugh at the horrified expression on Galinda's face. That girl really needs to learn what happens in the real world.

"C'mon, it's not much farther," I lied, but I didn't think Galinda would follow if I'd said anything otherwise.

I dropped down to all fours and quicked my pace so that I was slightly ahead. I was glad I had my Jaguar eyes, as the tunnel didn't have lights, just a few air holes to the surface. I briefly wondered how everyone else was seeing where they were going... or did they trust me enough to lead them out? Truth be told, I'd only used this tunnel once before, to help a lost Snow Leopard find her mother--who, come to think of it, hasn't been heard from in a while.

The Wizard was going to get a very nasty letter from a ticked Animal... very soon.

(question... has anyone had issues uploading documents? I keep getting error and it isn't getting mentioned anywhere else, or fixed for that matter. Any help at all would be hot.)

Rose sped up a little, following the roots helping to lead me along. "I like this tunnel," she stated with a smile.

I looked at Rose, who had a huge grin on her face, to the horrified expressions on Fiyero's and Galinda's faces. "Yeah," I said, "I like it too."

Rose held onto Elphie's hand a little tighter, and then took Glinda's hand to. "It's okay Galinda," she stated.

She couldn't help it. She couldn't let Glinda suffer.

I chuckled quietly to myself. "The end of the tunnel's just ahead," I mewed.

"Um... maybe Fiyero, you and Galinda should stay in the back? I don't want the Animals here to be frighteded. Elphaba... sorry, but... Um... they'll probably like you." What I didn't say was that they'd like her because she's... well... different. They didn't mind so much humans with... deformities... so much. I hope they won't say anything about it.

Rose smiled and let go of Glinda's hand. "Okay, let's go Annabel and Elphaba," she stated, gently swinging her arm a little.

She liked the idea of seeing Animals again.

I led them to the end of the tunnel. I could've joked about the 'Don't go tword the light!' but it didn't feel right. Besides, it's not my personality. To get the attention of the Animals living there, I let out a loud yowl, and I think Fiyero jumped.

"Hello!" I called. "My name is Annabel Recardo, and me and my friends have a Lion cub with us! He needs a home!" I wonder if Galinda or Fiyero would object to being refered to as my friends.

... Wait! Shouldn't an Animal have answered me by now? "Hello?" Lurline, I really hated it when my voice wavered when I was scared. Did anyone notice? I sure hope not. Is there something wrong? I prayed to Lurline that there wasn't.

((Okay, Annabel believes in Lurlineism, from the book, so if that doesn't make that much sense, that's why.))

Rose let go of Elphie's hand, and started walking down a little. "I'll go first, 'kay?" Rose asked, walking a long a little.

"Thanks," I breathed. Something was just a little... off. I can't tell what, though. Either it's something at the village... or the beans I had with lunch.

Rose walked out in front of Annabel and I. I could help thinking that something was wrong and obviously Annabel was thinking the exact same thing.

"I can't just stand here," I said, starting to rub my hands together. I started following Rose.

Something was definetly wrong with me. Normal Elphaba would have not even left the school, but these people I have been around had changed me.

I walked out of the tunnel to see a shocked looking Rose standing in the alley of what looked like a refugee camp. The only thing missing was the refugees.

"Rose?" I cautiously approached the young girl in front of me. "Annabel," I whispered back into the tunnel hoping to attract her attention. I continued walking towards the frozen Rose, but I froze myself several steps away.

Five feet away from Rose was a beat up looking Antelope. The poor creature was still breathing, but looked terrified at the sight of people.

"No, don't worry. We aren't going to hurt you."

(uh... free reign of naming said Antelope character goes to the next person. names are not my forte.)

The-Good-Die-Alone
((Er... the Antelope could be the Midwife? If you pay attention to the musical, you can tell the midwife in the beginning is an Antelope, I didn't, though.))

I stared, shocked. "No, this can't be happening," I whispered. Rose and Elphaba looked just as horrified. "I knew the Wizard was going to far, but..."

I never finished that sentence. The Antelope let out a frail bleating, so I rushed foreward to help her.

(Meanwhile, in the classroom...)

I had no such luck. Galinda outran me in a heartbeat, so all I could do was wheel myself dejectedly back into the classroom. I was greeted by the new professor.

"What did you do with the Lion cub?!" he raged. I shivered. "Well?"

"No-no-nothing, Professor," I stuttered.

"Yeah, right. Come, we're going to see the headmistress." And with that, he wheeled me out of the classroom.

Rose leaned down and her rose petel hair moved to collect the sunlight. She gently lay her hand on the Antelope, and said softly, "You are okay with us."

She didn't notice the plants around her shifting around, moving, and flowers turning their heads towards her. She did notice that she was feeling dry.

(Roses are considered the queen of flowers and plants...it is odd)

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw some plants moving. I thought it was a little weird, but the Antelope needed my attention more.

"What happened?" I asked her.

//Please don't say the Gale Force,// I thought, //Please don't say the Gale Force. Please don't say the Gale Force. Plea--//

"The... the Gale Force... they-they came a-and... and..." the Antelope stuttered, the fear clear in her eyes, and there was fear-scent all around, and it was appealing to my jaguar instincs, but I'd learned to ignore those long ago.

"Ssh, it's okay," I said soothingly, "they're gone, and I won't let them come back."

Rose filled with fear, and she shook a little. She gently stroked the Antelope's side, and started singing a song she remembered. "There is a song I know from a long time ago. It is a song that rides the winds, and carries it along. It is played by a thousand winds, and has a chorus of a million. Listen to it's song, and have it carry you away. To a land where people are free, and there is no hatred. Hold on to this song, have it in your heart, and don't give it up," she sang softly. (I actually made it up, so sorry if it is weird)

I looked sadly at the poor Antelope and felt the green rush even more to my face. "Would you two be okay staying with her?" I didn't want to separate, but the poor Cub looked like he was about to turn green himself. "I will go release the Lion in the cornfield outside of ** grounds. I am sure he will find the Forest of Fighting Trees or somewhere in Munchkinland."

In reality, I wasn't so sure he would, but the Lion couldn't stay here or else he would end up like the others. I looked the threesome over and sighed, "Doctor Dillamond was right, Something bad is happening in Oz and if the Lion cub stays with us... well..."

#81 Dec 10th 2006, 3:25pm
The-Good-Die-Alone
"No." My voice was coarse with emotion. "No, we can't just let him go anywhere. That Cub needs a Lion family to take care of him."

I looked at Rose and the Antelope. "Rose? We both know the best about Animals. Why don't we keep him? I mean, if we can keep him hidden, that is." I could feel my hopes rising. Mine, and the Cub's. I KNEW he could understand us.

"Look, I know it's a little... well, out there, but, let's face it. Something is going horribly, horribly wrong in Oz--starting back to the Great Drought. Us Animals became the scapegoats that we are. We need to fix that.

"Elphaba? Can I ask you a favor?"

"Yes, I think we could. What was the name of the Lioness again? Agatha...or was it Emmie...or was it Angie...oh! I feel bad now! I can't remember her name!" Rose replied, now deep in thought.

She was still stroacking the Antelope's side and she didn't notice the sudden upgrowth of grass in the area.

(Her abilities are kind-of going hay-wire since she is stressing)

"Great. But, um... Rose? Could you please calm down?" I eyed the plants nervously, there was NO WAY I wanted to get trapped in a plant. That, combined with the stupid fear-scent would let my jaguar instincs go, and I didn't want that to happen.

"Wha...OH! Sorry!" Rose apologized, looking embarressed.

She got the plants under control on her hair layed flat against her head. She smiled, and continued to stroak the Antelope's side. She started to hum a calming song that Mom had always sung to her.

"A favor?"

I paused and stared at the strange sight infront on me. I don't have friends... when did this happen? Yeah, well, I used to never talk to myself either. I snapped out of my daze to see Rose looking at me, but still humming.

"I just said that out loud, didn't I?" Rose nodded, but smiled at me. "I figured. What kind of favor?"

"I heard what Madame Morrible said about your magical talent," I said. "I would like to ask you to see the Wizard, and ask him /why/ he's doing this--" I gestured twoard the Antelope--"to us Animals. I realize that's a lot of me to ask, but..." I trailed off.

Rose stopped humming, and stared at Annabel. She then started to sing the song softly, "Hold onto your hope, for it will light your way in darkness. Hold onto hope, for it will be your security. Just hold onto that sliver of hope, for it will grow into a great big beautiful flower."

She stopped and smiled at the Antelope.

(Once again mine...so...yeah)
