Topic: Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
While trying to uncover the Joker's secrets, Terry McGinnis, the new Batman, discovers the greatest mystery in the career of the original Batman - the true story of the night Batman fought the Joker for the last time. Though when Bruce Wayne is almost killed in one of the Joker's new attacks, it's up to Batman Beyond to avenge his mentor and put the Joker to rest forever.

This movie inspired by the animated series, BATMAN BEYOND, finds Batman facing his greatest adversary The Joker, only problem is that the original Batman, Bruce Wayne already took care of him years ago. So the new Batman, Terry McGinnis has to find out how is this possible and to do that he has to find out what happened only problem is that Bruce doesn't want to talk about it.

In latter-21st-century Gotham City, The Jokerz, a street gang enamored of the city's infamous Clown Prince Of Crime, is breaking into a high-tech engineering plant to steal a powerful generator, a crime stopped by the new Batman (Terry McGuiness) and which puzzles Terry and his mentor, the elderly original Batman Bruce Wayne. The reason for this and other "geek junk" thefts is a mystery even to The Jokerz gang, who are now working for someone claiming to be the original Joker himself. When he makes an appearence at a charity function attended by Bruce Wayne (cover to steal another generator), the Joker taunts Wayne, and later sends his minions to attack Terry McGuiness while he attacks the Batcave. But the original Joker died forty years earlier, and why does this new Joker want high-tech items? When a shaken Barbara Gordon explains the fate of the original Joker, Terry begins to piece the twin mysteries together, culimating in a confrontation with the Joker that literally threatens the very existence of Gotham City.

Cool. I'm starting this same topic over on BtB. Don't beat me to this one, okay?

Why should there be two topics for the same thing?

'Cause I was planning to do it anyway. Besides, I think I told someone else I that I was going to make it.

I'm seriously considering writing my first fic. One that explores that flashback in this movie: How did Joker drive Tim insane? Beyond the 'serums and shocks', what happened? What was it like for those three weeks he was in Joker's 'tutilage'?

Probably tourture.

Sounds interesting. I look forward to it if you do do it.

Well, of course it was torture. Shock torture mostly. I'll probably describe some of that, and then explore the 'peeling back the layers' of his mind part. Maybe a truth serum to get him to spill out Bruce and Barbara's names.

Maybe there'll be a tape that's always playing near where he's strapped down, a tape of continueous, insane laughter. And maybe some serums of stimulators that speed up his brain and heart so he's overly hyper.

I think I should write a oneshot before I start this, to get the feel of writing. I've also been considering a Slade oneshot that explains his past, exploring Addie shooting his eye out, who Wintergreen was, and how Robin and Terra remind him of his kids, Grant, Jericho, and Rose.

Speaking of SLade, two things. One, did you see my most recent post at CAA? And two, I'm thinking of doing a DPTT crossover, in which Slade comes to Amity Park to convince VALERIE to be his apprentice. The Teen Titans must go under cover in Casper High in order to find out what Slade's up to, and what will Vlad say about it?

I'm thinking of having a battle between Vlad and Slade, just for you...

Aw, thanks! Yeah, I read the CAA suggestions. That sounds story idea sounds interesting, but do the Titans really have to get that far involved? If they did, I think I've read another story where they all did just that, they just got in the way. But it sounds really cool, and, although I don't really like Valerie, I'll support it. :)

At the very end of this movie, remember when Batman says he's "fighting dirty"? If you play it in total freeze frame, here's what he actually did; he blocked Joker's punch, grabbed the collar of his black spandex shirt thing, and yanked on it, forcing Joker to stumble toward him... And Batman's knee. Which was conveniently raised so that Joker fell on it, right on his, well, you know.

Then he grabbed his arm and twisted it as he said, "fighting dirty".

Have you ever seen the deleted scene from the movie? It's the storyboard of a scene where Terry follows Bruce to the old Arkham, and the "operating theatre" where Joker tortured Tim years before. Bruce runs out not noticing that Terry had followed him, and Terry goes in and walks around the place, stopping at roughly the exact point that Joker was shot.

And there's another scene of Jordan Price talking to Bruce about the company. It's barely significant at all.

Well, it's not animated, it has the voice acting, but it's just storyboard sketches. Every few seconds they have a new black and white, rough sketch. In the old arkham scene, Terry's just walking around, not really saying anything since he's alone. But Bruce's conversation with Jordan Price was just them talking about the company. That wasn't very significant, anyway.

Yeah, this movie had a nice peak of action, but there was the feeling that it was toned down a little. Some of the episodes have had more dramatic endings. Still, Joker strangling Terry was something that was definately worth showing. And, of course, the REAL version of the movie is the only one worth watching, the version that is rated PG-13, where Joker dies when Tim shoots him.

If you've never seen the PG-13 version, search for it on www.youtube.com.

I've seen it and love it. The Joker should be sent to hell for what he did to poor Ttim.

Well, in a way, Joker probably did go to hell. Only part of him lived on dormant. What he did in the flashback probably wasn't the worst kind of torture ever used in DC comics, but it was pretty cool compared to all the toned-down action in most of the other action shows from DC comics.

I think Justice League shows some graphic violence and short bits of torture. It's probably got the highest ratings. Teen Titans has ratings for younger audiences, which explains the very few extremely violent scenes.

But the lowest of the low, in my opinion, is "The Batman", on WBkids. There's hardly any screaming or anything, just punches, kicks, and blasts that never hit anyone.

The most obvious example of this is the episode with Bane. In the comics, Bane snapped Batman's spine, and it was one of the closest times he'd ever come so close to dying. But in the episode on TV, Bane just threw him through a wall, and he woke up five minutes later in the episode.

So, yeah, what Joker did to Tim is right up there with Justice League in terms of extreme violence/torture. That's probably the reason there were two versions; to aim for both levels of the audience, the part that could handle that, and the part that was too young to handle it, and wouldn't mind how chopped up it ended up being.
