ShewhodanceswithdragonsTopic: Future Shock Batman, Robin and Static stop a criminal named Timecode. In the Batcave, Batman tries to secure Timecode's time machine and is caught in a time field. Static tries to save him but is caught in the field instead and sent 40 years into the future. Still in the Batcave he meets the Future Batman, Terry McGinnis, who at first thinks he's an enemy. The older Bruce Wayne appears and tells both of them to calm down and that he's been expecting Virgil since the accident. Bruce wants Static to help them with Kobra (A major criminal organization bent on ruling the world in Batman Beyond.) Seems Kobra has kidnapped the future Static and they want to trade him for their Kobra Leader. The Future Batman is reluctant to work with the younger version of Static, but goes along with it. They go undercover to meet a contact of Bruce Wayne who might have information on Kobra's current hideout. The person doesn't show up, but Virgil thinks he's found another contact instead. The false contact is a Jokerz member and leads them into an ambush and Virgil uses his powers to defeat them. Meanwhile, the Kobra Leader escapes from the police and returns to his headquarters to kill the older Static. The young Static is tired of arguing with Terry and goes back to Dakota to his Gas Station Hideout. Batman goes with him and they discover a secret underground entrance. Static finds a message from an older (and fatter) Gear, telling him to meet him. Batman tells Static it couldn't be the real Gear, because Wayne sent him on a mission. They trace the call to the Kobra headquarters and find the older Static locked in a stasis field. The Kobra Leader is about to kill Static when his younger self stops him. Batman battles with the Leader while Static tries to free his older self from stasis. After fighting the Leader and his followers he manages to free himself and the older Static stops Kobra easily. After that, the younger Static begins to fade from the future and back to his real time. What do you think? | #1 Aug 12th 2006, 12:23pm

CelloSolo2007I think this was a pretty good crossover. After I saw this one, I got curious about SS and watched a few of the episodes on Youtube. Kobra is still cool. I was hoping there'd be an episode with Kobra and the Jokerz. Too bad they weren't all in the same place. Anyway, this was a good crossover.| #2 Aug 12th 2006, 12:29pm

Akino AmeOne thing I really liked about this episode was seeing how Terry reacted to another kid his age fighting crime. I mean, you watch the other times he's teamed up with someone: with the notable exception of Green Lantern, they're all older than him or seem to be older (hard to place Warhawk or Aquagirl, but they act older than him). Then Virgil comes in, and he acts very much like Terry. Add in the fact that Terry only knew Static of the future--the great hero--and he's definitely more than a little disappointed. I liked seeing that suddenly, his illusions were shattered--I'm kind of a sucker for things I can pick apart psychologically. It really makes it easier for him to relate with the future Static better if he's not worshipping him, and he sees that the guy was just an ordinary, headstrong kid like him once. |

CelloSolo2007Good point, that's something that the JL often forgets about, that some of their allies are still fun-loving guys. |

Darkwinter999That's exactly why I loved that episode Ame! That and the time travel. Btw, did anyone else notice that Terry tended to treat V like Bruce treats Terry? Like father, like son, huh? That and Bruce kind of has that effect on people (i.e. every kid he ever took on). |
|
CelloSolo2007Yeah! Bruce expresses other fatherly qualities, as well. Like, the way he'd sometimes make Robin wait outside, or in the car when he thought it was too dangerous. Besides, both Terry and Dick Grayson had their fathers murdered, and would automaticly look to him as a father figure. I think that's a subtle theme of the story of Batman. |
|
Darkwinter999But haven't you ever noticed that anyone who hangs with Bruce long enough ends up acting like him? |
|
CelloSolo2007Yeah, they do. That's what makes them such good successors/sidekicks. I think that's one of the themes. They're all driven by tragedy, and start seeing things the way Bruce does. Are you interested in watching that new Dark Knight movie that comes out in July? The Joker seems a lot like a previous movie version. Is it a continuation? I haven't seen Batman Begins, so maybe that's why. |

Darkwinter999They went in a whole new direction from Jack Nicholson's Joker. He's more evil and psychotic than friendly (in an evil way) and funny (again, in an evil way). No continuation, they started over again. I am interested in seeing the new Dark Knight, but mostly just to see if they redeem themselves with this one. I know some liked Begins but I didn't. |

CelloSolo2007Jack Nicholson's Joker, is that the cartoon/comic version? Or the one from the older movies? I've really only seen the animated cartoons, not the movies. I'm totally excited about the new movie, and I might buy it when it comes out on DVD, cuz I wanna see the commentary about Batman. |

Darkwinter999The first Batman movie that was directed by Tim Burton! Jack Nicholson got that fantastic blend of funny, and sadistic insanity that is the Joker, and I am so disappointed that they decided to drop the Joker's funny side for the new movie. But at least they aren't pulling out a new Bruce every five seconds. |
